  1. Destroy the RIAA Today on eDonkey Tells Congress It's Throwing in the Towel · · Score: 0, Troll

Stop stealing copyrighted stuff. If enough people do that, the RIAA goes away.

  2. China Has Come a Long Way on How Chinese Evade Government's Web Controls · · Score: 2, Insightful

Let's not forget how far China has come since Richard Nixon's visit back in the Seventies. Compare 1970's China with modern China and you will see. I am not against gradual change as long as it's constant.

Confucius said something like, 'it doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop.'

  3. Japanese Adults and Manga on Realism vs. Style: the Zelda Debate · · Score: 1

It's a popular myth in the US that anime and manga are respected art forms in Japan. In Japan, if you are an adult, and you get caught reading manga on your lunch hour, you will be held up to some redicule. I feel that the cultural relevance of manga are nearly equal to the cultural relevance of comics in the US.

  4. Anybody Who Does Better on Google's Turn To Be The Villain · · Score: 1

Anybody who does better than me has to be an evil cheating, world-dominating, faceless entity.

It can't be that I suck.

    I will. Really.

    No, really.

  6. Media Does Matter on Pentagon Wants Screenplays From Scientists · · Score: 1

I worked for the airforce in a civilian capacity for a time. There were two black network administrators. Black techies aren't that common in the business, so curious, I talked to them about their career choice. Each spoke of seeing Captain Benjamin Sisko on TV. Seeing another black person handle tech stuff comfortably was all it took to get these two into network administration. Who knows how many other black people got tech jobs because of Sisko? And think of all the engineers Scotty generated...

  9. It Aint Over Until Hillary Sings on U.S. House Votes to Extend Patriot Act · · Score: 1

The House always passes it. It's packed with repubicans.

The Senate will carve it up.

The worst thing I've heard is that the fed can request your library records. What the screaming meemies don't often tell you is that a judge's warrent is required.

This applies for citizens of course. Non-citizens and resisdent aliens are screwed.

  10. Copyright Theft on American Anime Localization Company Tries Torrents · · Score: 2, Funny

Hmmm. I'm going out of business because people are downloading stuff off the Internet without paying.

What can I do? Let's see... Teach more people how to download copyrighted stuff off the Internet! That's it!

    It could work.

  11. Paul Hill on Six Bomb Blasts Around Central London · · Score: 1, Offtopic

Paul Hill was a kind and gentle man who looked like he could be your dentist. One day he bought a shotgun and gunned down an abortionist and his bodyguard in cold blood. Paul Hill had prayed with his prayer group and came to the conclusion that God wanted these people dead.

Paul Hill knew full well the State of Florida would execute him because of his actions. He died on the gurny, with a leathal drip in his arm. He was surrounded by members of his prayer group. They were all crying. They were crying because Paul was going to heaven. They were crying tears of joy.

Paul Hill believed that God's law took precidence over man's law.

  12. You Just Can't Tell on Justice O'Connor Retiring · · Score: 3, Insightful

Eisenhower promoted Warren to the Supreme Court and he said it was the worst mistake of his life, Warren being one of the most activist judges ever.

Bush Sr promoted Kennedy who he thought was a lot more conservative than he turned out to be. O'Connor was supposed to more conservative than she turned out to be.

When you are promoted to SCOTUS, you've reached the pentultimate spot. You can't be fired and it's almost impossible to impeach you. Now, you can do what you want, everyone else, presidents, congress, be damned.

I'm not worried in the slightest.

  14. They Should've had Two Servers on Second Indymedia Server Seized in UK Within a Year · · Score: 2, Interesting

If you are running an indy newspaper, and you want to have public forums, for God's sake, put the public forums on a separate server. That way, when someone commits a crime on the forums, the police will only sieze the server the forums are hosted on.

This is a case of not having the proper disaster strategy in place.

Canada has rabid slander and lible laws and you can get into big trouble if you speak out.

It's all on the grey scale, China -> Canada -> US

China has improved dramatically over the last few decades and I'm holding out hope that Canada will improve someday too.
