My first thought when reading this was, "if this was possible, than somebody else would probably already have done it." Then it occurred to me that people like Arthur Ashkin are the "somebody else" who probably would come up with it. You know the difference between the AI revolution and the industrial revolution? The AI revolution isn't replacing jobs, its replacing workers. Essentially, you are manufacturing an artificial person who can be instantly taught to replace a worker in any job. We could do the same thing without automation by allowing immigrants to come into the country and immediately firing all currently employed people and replacing them with the hypothetical army of immigrants.
Let me repeat. We aren't creating new jobs, we are creating new workers.
Also, to be fair, the columnist calling one of the richest men in the world an idiot for buying land in arizona probably barely clears rent each month. So I'm sure he knows best.

The US Post Office inefficient? Would you like to define efficient? Because by my definition, a company that can accurately route 500 million pieces of mail each and every day is pretty fucking awesome.
Staying on Earth will end up with you dead too, which must also be tantamount to suicide. Therefore, if you are Muslim, you shouldn't be allowed to live anywhere.

Sounds like someone is suddenly desparate for a huge success.

Yes, its not like anyone would put in a road made from modular hard materials. I mean, the cobblestone roads of Rome are only two thousand years old.
I'm glad thats not my Subaru. It went 220,000 miles before needing a major repair. If you consider replacing the alternator major.
