XP SP2 final installed just fine over my RC2 installation. It barfed when I tried installing over a sliptstreamed install, but the way around the is to build a slipstreamed SP2 install and do an upgrade (which worked great with build 2162, the final beta that was pushed out - I've not tried it with SP2 final yet but I see no reason for it not to work... wait this is Microsoft am I nuts?).

Microsoft are taking a step in the right direction with SP2 and I hope they do the same with 2000 SP5.

I think you meant 'children learn that to function well they need to be upright, (due to their physical form) and so they learn to walk.' I think that they learn to walk because being upright is instinctively the right position to be in.

I think you're wrong about the crawling and rolling being learned. My son was crawling at 2 weeks old and rolled over at 3 weeks, he didn't have time to learn (since he was in a isolet at the time in Arnold Palmer hospital).

He was trying to stand from about 4 months, so I definitely agree with you there.

As an aside, I think all computer students should be forced to learn how to type on an ancient manual typewriter for at least a month before they're even allowed near a modern keyboard.

    Zombies.

Give me some good old-fashioned guitar-based rock any day. Slayer, Voivod or even Metallica if things get desperate.

    Alright, I'll bite.

Actually, I do agree with you for the most part but I think you're seeing things a little too black and white. My Father has the same attitude, music stopped in the early 1970's as far as he is concerned (what he doesn't know about the 60's music scene isn't really worth writing about).

About 99% of the music today is a bunch of crap, generated by a computer and sung by someone who cannot sing without a lot of post production work to make their voice sound good (but they do look very nice, don't they?).

Fortunately, we have a few innovators out there who are managing either

    a) Merge modern instruments and the old together to make a really fresh sound. A few examples (that you may like): Metallica (they've been using sythesisers for years, in part), Korn, Nine Inch Nails

    b) Are actually at making synthesised music without sounding like the rest of the garbage out there. Listen to bands like Astral Projection, Orbital, etc.

We have been very, very lucky so far that (AFAIK) no MS security update has contained a bug serious enough to kill the OS, but it is only a matter of time before this happens. I prefer to be notified automatically of updates by that friendly little globe (or the friendly little shield in XP SP2), but wait a day or so before actually installing them - just in case.

Unfortunately, from experience I know that most users see the globe and consider it an annoyance to be ignored. I have actually had trouble tickets from some users asking me to make it go away. Which is why Software Update Services is such a good thing.
