I agree. I don't see how it would be narrowed down to fast-food in that sense. I'm sure that sports logos, and brand names, and Coke and Pepsi products would all be found to have the same effects if logos themselves were the ones with the power to alter your state of mind.

No, its most likely your mind playing a subconcious trick because you already know about the logo. You look at it, and you don't think, "Hmmm, Golden Arches make me impatient", you think "I could go for some McDonalds, because I don't feel like cooking". Then you are in the mindset that you don't have time to cook, and you are impatient from thereafter.

Just like how looking at this nice Big Brand Coffee Cup makes me feel a little more relaxed at work, even though I haven't sipped it yet.

The latest Red Faction is similar in that you can destroy just about any building but the landscape at least remains the same.

Either way, its been done before, and the only thing this "Next-Gen" might do to interest me is 4 player split screen, because Red Faction: Guerilla was too physics intensive on the Xbox to offer up reliable local multiplayer.

You know Roger, I think the only way to explain this to you is to use a movie quote, since thats what you are most known for.

"The first time someone calls you a horse you punch him on the nose.
The second time someone calls you a horse you call him a jerk.
But the third time someone calls you a horse, well then perhaps it's time to go shopping for a saddle."

How many times do you have to say "Video Games can never be art" before you accept that they can be?

Santiago might cite an immersive game without points or rules, but I would say then it ceases to be a game and becomes a representation of a story, a novel, a play, dance, a film. Those are things you cannot win; you can only experience them.

I cried in the first Mass Effect when one of my team mates had to die (go ahead and get the lols out of the way). The whole game was a more immersive experience, and a better 'representation of a story' than some plays or dances or films I have seen. Even though I could technically "Beat" the game, or "win".

So really, Roger, what you are trying to say is, its not that Video Games can't be art, its that when it reaches that artistic level, its no longer a video game. Am I following properly?

I remember doing Visual Basic in High school and it was like that. It eventually made itself into a simple Tic Tac Toe game by the end of the 6th Module. When I applied to the local Polytechnic, they didn't recognise it as a real lesson, so in order to get into Computer Sciences I had to complete their "Intro to C" by correspondants.

I kid you not, 5 modules - the first one being "How to turn on and operate a computer" - and the last one being Multiplying two numbers taken in from a command prompt.

The biggest waste of time and money I've ever encountered. But at least my parents were proud of my perfect Grade.

Essentially, you are also missing a function header/signature, since those are standard coding practices you should be including with all of your assignment code.

Albeit, in both cases I'm uses skills that applies to the field, for history I'm learning basic research principles (and how ineffective or horrible a source Wikipedia might be), and in the other example I'm learning code reusage, which may be just as ineffective or horrible as wikipedia. Just because something works doesn't make it good code. This is the kind of thing they need to be teaching in Object Oriented programming.

Because its one thing to avoid reinventing the wheel. But you should know how a wheel works before you use it.

  22. Re:How many ways are there to do simple things? on Why Computer Science Students Cheat · · Score: 4, Insightful

    Woosh.

There is no need for an assignment like that to be scalable (as is kind of his point). If they were going for scalability they need to be using more variables, like i=x;i==y, and then setting x and y previously so it actually counts the range dependant on what you pass it. And then take out i++, because you don't know if you'll be iterating by one. Maybe you'll need every second number, or third number.

The amount of things you can do to make a simple project "Scalable" is very overwhelming. You need to assess at what point does a scalable option becomes pointless.

And in the case of counting from 1 to 10, he said scalable options ARE pointless already.
