Make a list of things you think you would be good at and could stand as a career, and pick the one you think would pay the best.

I like computer science and I love music. I'm very skilled at both. If I would have taken this guy's advice, I would be a professional musician who could hardly afford his own drums. Instead, I majored in CS and started off making more money than my parents do COMBINED. And I still have time to enjoy music, and can afford nicer instruments than I could as a musician.

  5. split to debian desktop and debian server on Branden Robinson Lays Down the Law at Debian · · Score: 1

They really need to split in to Debian Desktop and Debian Server. This would enable both to have more frequent releases. The server distro could release probably twice yearly because they would have many fewer dependencies to worry about (and no GNOME stuff, for example). The desktop distro could release more often because it would not have to hold itself to the extreme stability requirements that a server distro requires. It would be a win for everyone. I might actually be able to start using Debian again.

You just identified yourself as one of the romantics instead of one of the rational scientists. Spouting off your silliness has a negative impact on your movement because people will tend to assosciate reasonable scientific thought with your emotional non-thought.

Your unsupported assumptions that "natural" is somehow ideal and that humanity should be limited suggest that you are basing your opinions on some mysticism, superstition or religion, rather on scientific skepticism.

It's simple. Compared to the USA, France more is anti-free speech, but more pro-fair use.

Slashdot, however, is predominately both pro-free speech and pro-fair use.

If Hollywood were a city in France, however, I think it would be likely that France would be even more anti-fair use than the USA is today because the French don't value free speech as much as Americans do.

  15. Re:Ban SUVs = Save More Oil Than Expanding DST on Daylight Savings Change Proposed · · Score: 1

Huh? You imply you are in the US but you say "petrol?"

The cost of gas does include the cost of spills. The oil companies pay to clean those up, therefore the cost is included in the cost of gas. That's a better way to do it than paying for cleanup with tax dollars--it provides incentives to the gas companies to prevent spills.

Taxing the to pay for infrastructure would also be dumb. In the US, gassoline distribution infrastructure is not paid for by the government. The cost is included in the price of the gas.

Taxes to pay for the military actions which hold fuel prices down would be pointless. Theoretically, those actions pay for themselves by boosting the world economy (though this latest war was REALLY expensive and hasn't done much in the way of oil prices yet, that we know of).

Gas tax really should JUST cover roads and possibly polution-related expenses. Lower prices means lower shipping costs means better overall economy.
