    Computers run many programs and many processes. If they each had their own core, it doesn't matter that any individual application isn't parallelized.

    Seriously. I want to look at an object and get information on it (hovering above the object in the font of my choice). I want to digg up or down and see comments to things like carnival rides, tourist attractions, and those nice ladies in the windows in Amsterdam.

    I want to leave a comment on EVERYTHING and I want to see the comments others leave. GPS + glasses with HUD will change the world.

    This has actually been studied. People with "positive attitudes" do not live longer than the morose after being diagnosed with cancer. Sorry, but this theory is false.

    Many people believe it because of confirmation bias. But that's all it is.

    This is a distributed encrypted filesystem.

    If it were used for copyright infringement, no court in the world would give a crap that it is only sending "random" data. They would care that you can turn on your computer, click on a Britney Spears song, and have it play on your speakers.

    This is just some math-heads getting way out of touch with reality.

    You think PKIs are worthless? You must be a sales goon for PGP. Well you can take your web of trust and shove it up your 65537.

    Commercial PKIs verify that, at the very least, there is a money trail associated with each certificate you interact with. And there are newer levels of certificate signing coming out which verify that some certificates have been extensively audited to ensure that they were issued to the legitimate business owners, and that those owners have some level of protection of the certificate itself.

    That is a real, valuable advantage compared to self-signed certs.

    When you factor in an hour waiting to check an and an hour waiting for security, then add the probability of many hours lost time as flights are delayed, rail is MUCH faster than air for all but the longest flights--especially if we get higher speed trains like in EU and JP.

    Now factor in our current peak oil scenario, and compare jet fuel to rail's ability to run on electricity.

    If we actually had high-speed electric rail, it would be superior to air in literally every way for shorter trips such as Boston to NYC.

    My advice: Live on half your income. Invest aggressively with the other half, until your investments are paying a dividend yield of about $12k/year. That's enough money to live comfortably in much of Asia or South America. Take a break from work for a year and just do your own thing as you get it out of your system.

    Once you are done preemptively stopping your midlife crisis, go back to work for real money if ya really want to.

    If you play video games for, say, two hours per day, compare the cost of a $400 graphics card every two years to the cost of seeing a two hour movie every day (or pick your own form of entertainment).

    A $400 video card really is a smart business decision when you look at entertainment-hours per dollar.

    The price of a 9800GTX has gone from $350 to $220 in a very short time. I just bought a 9800GTX for $220 from NewEgg a few hours ago. They are dropping the price to make room for these new cards, and you would be wise to take advantage of it. The new card may be 50% faster, but it is much more than 50% more expensive at today's prices.

    I killed no Indians and neither did my ancestors--later generation of immigrants. But if you had studied American history just a bit, you would realize that the majority of Indian deaths were caused by a lack of immunity to Old World diseases.

    You have to consider this - does China get into wars? No... they're NOT that stupid!
    You must be Chinese because you know nothing of Chinese history. How about the Korean war? And Tibet? China is still slaughtering peaceful political dissenters. And as a Chinese person you probably know nothing of the slaughter of dissenters at Tiananmen Square.

    China gets in wars/military actions like anyone else, but when they do it, the purpose is to take away freedoms.
