Yep, that's how I learned Asm on the C64. Kept moving parts of the BASIC code to machine. I leaned a lot about optimization that way, stuff that has stayed with me for decades.
I didn't see any throttling for usage caps in the configs on the Clear data centers I setup. More likely they are just selling well. They are adding tower sites like crazy and upgrading the data centers to handle a LOT more bandwidth. The main issue when I was there was trying to get the equipment vendors to build and ship the new models quick enough. It's a great network though. Layer 2 Ethernet all the way to the data center.
That said, it is a shared radio resource, with all the trade offs involved. Moving to LTE won't effect much beyond the radios on the tower. The network is designed to be agile. If I needed mobile service, they would be my choice.
I don't mind the commute when I know I have views like this to come home to. Like you, I'm pushing 50 so the bright lights of the city don't do that much for me. And when I get the urge we've got the casino to go to.
I've got the T-Mobile version and it will lock-up once a month or so. I've not had the problem with Bluetooth or the mem card. Maybe I'm lucky. I do hate the long boot time. It makes XP seem quick.
My Blackberry Pearl came with a nice little leather carry case. The phone even knows if it's in it or not so that it can use different ringer profiles. Fits nice in the pocket and I never pocket dial. One of the best phone designs I've ever had.
Exactly. I've had the same pw on/. since I first log created the account. The same user/pass pair that I've used for hundreds (thousands?) of sites. A lot of my friends know this pair. I've never had a problem that came from someone hacking this pair (and it's really a lame password at that.)
For my bank, domains, amazon, & etc. I use unique pairs that get changed every year or so.
But for normal web crap, It wouldn't bother me too much if someone got in. It's not like people don't think I'm bat-shit crazy already.
Bennie is German. JP2 was Polish. JP1 was Italian and the last one I could stomach (maybe because he only lasted 33 days.)
I was Catholic and grew up in a very (albeit liberal) Roman Catholic home. My father was the first lay deacon in our diocese and my mother has been employed by the diocese for decades. I've had bishops and cardinals over for Christmas dinners. Uncles and aunts are/were ordained. I know this stuff inside and out. I no longer accept the existence of God. Just don't tell my mom, it would break her heart.
Ah, it sounds like you know the project that I was talking about. Yeah, that was a crash and burn to watch. The only real thing I accomplished in the 7 months I was up there was a side project to connect all the Williams Express stations via the local fiber loops and MPLS (trick back in those days.)
To be honest, it wasn't the equipment or the engineering that killed that project, it was the politics. Unions, Universities and Government. Nothing could get done.
At least I was making good contractor money. My wife and son were also involve in the project and a lot of other industry friends from Seattle.
Normally the term "meteor scatter" describes using the ion trail of micrometeors (sand size and smaller) to bounce a VHF/UHF signal further than line of sight.
Many years back when working on a VoIP project for ACS we found the best way to deal with sat hops was to deal with the remote end as analog (FXS) and do the analog to VoIP conversion back in the Anchorage CO. Cisco VoIP of the day just didn't like to deal with the RTT.
Bellcore specs call up to 150ms toll quality. Anything beyond that is out of spec, But a geo-hop is about 250ms, maybe a bit more with the angles involved that far north.
AK is a great testbed to push protocols to their limits. If I was a bit more batshit crazy I'd move up there;) (reads ADN comments for laughs)
What you are feeling is you hitting the side of the train as you were flying through the air.
Having hauled many of the KaKu dishes up to roofs, yeah, lots more than 5 lbs. Just the az-el knuckle is 5 lbs.

...northwest territories.
No, Washington and Oregon are states now.

P.S. I'm not in the USA.
Yeah, I remember when I was working up in Alaska mentioning to a co-worker what I would do when I got back to the US. I does feel that way sometimes.
That's what a season ticket or your local watering hole is for.
I did the same thing. Moved away from Seattle north about 35 miles to Indian Country.

Todd Palin?
WTF is a pirated link?
Basically any Slashdot story.
You can port to google voice now. Then they can manage which (or both) phone rings on that number. And it's free.
I took my driving test in a VW bug, you insensitive clod! In the snow!
Really, I did. February 1977 in a red '67 bug, Yakima, WA.
...they'd say "Hey, that should be in a datacenter!"
Which translates to "Hey, I should have control of, and the budget, for that!" or worse, "Hey, that should be running Windows!"
That's my corporate logo, you insensitive slob!

When was the last time you've seen "restraint in the community" for the greater good of the whole?
Just a moment ago when I read you sanctimoniously pessimistic statement and DIDN'T push the big red button that is labeled "Nuke From Orbit."

So, did GCI pick up the pieces?
