There's a huge body of biomechanical studies to reference when you're looking at things like this.
If I recall the Catalyst story I watched about this guy a couple of years ago correctly, his false leg is springier than tendons in a standard leg, but that it wasn't really springy enough to make up for the lack of muscles in the lower leg.
You know what they say: "You’ll never loose money by over-estimating the stupidity of the American people." I'd extend that to include most of the world.
I completely agree with that sentiment. If I put my search in quotes, it should mean that I know what I'm looking for and and just show me what I've searched for.
I'm not as big a fan of google maps as I am of the search. I've had quite a few wacky results like that, so I'm always especially cautious when I try to use it.
Sometimes it is helpful, the one that sticks in my head recently is when I was looking for the address of Houston Motorsport Park. I didn't know the right name so I searched for Houston Raceway, but it still lead me to the right place.
Perhaps it could be refined some, but I am impressed with Google's ability to work out what I really mean.
I knew posting it on/. would get me something intelligent to go on pretty quickly.
I'll confess that I heard about it from a radio show with hosts who are big fans of the Tea party, and hate Democrats with a passion. They also told me that President Hoover tried the alternate tactic for the Great Depression, and we all know how that turned out.
I thought that way until a couple of days ago when I learned about the recession of 1920-21. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depression_of_1920%E2%80%9321). Instead of the government borrowing and spending to boost the economy, they cut their spending so they could reduce taxes which put the economy back on track in less than a year. I haven't really done enough research to fully understand it, but I has made me think about my position a little harder.
I do agree that the US driving test is a joke, I actually had to take it recently: it involved about 5-10 minutes of driving through quiet residential streets, and a parallel park in a special area. Despite completely screwing up my parallel park, and doing the first half of the test in "3", rather than drive I still passed the test.
Not sure I entirely agree with that, but I'm struck by how civil this has been. Thank you for that.
I'd replace the word competition with corruption in your second paragraph. I've been treated quite badly by some private entities, so I'm quite wary of them gaining too much power. I at least hypothetically have a voice in government, and have something I can do to redress any injustices.
Here's your whoosh.
But wouldn't that then be a design that would qualify for a patent?

They do not give him an advantage over someone with two legs, however they are a significant step up from someone with no legs.
It's a Bill Hicks bit. I don't know what show it was part of, but I can tell you that it was sampled on the hidden track on one of Tool's albums.
+1
Just in case you're not bored of them already, one I found in the comments to TFA: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/28773212/detail.html. Not only do they take a diabetic's insulin, they don't even manage to find all of it!

Thanks for setting me straight.

Why the fuck would I want a car that'll flip when I take a corner too fast?
I like linking to this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate, as it has stats for fatalities per billion vehicle-miles. There are a lot of countries without that data, but there are 8.5 in the US, compared to only 5.7 in the UK.

Remember Robin, always use both hands!
You see all those other words in the post to which you are replying? You might want to try reading them, it could be educational.
Of course, yes, how would cyanide-based DNA even work? Thanks for correcting me.
That whole cyanide in the DNA thing made the front page of /. too. Don't get your hopes up.
Except when the planes fall out of the sky and on to your car!
It's not funny: it's hilarious!
You use IE6 don't you?
I'm going to have to ask ^you^ to go look up the definition of exponential before you make any more posts about the definition of exponential...

The big skid mark they left. Either that or they're too awesome to even notice us.
So protection only for the rich. Basically the same as the current system then?
