    People are leaving in droves...why? Not because of DOS attacks, or poor service...

    Its because of Lilo.

    And he refuses to comprehend this. His spamming is nothing new - hes done it since the network was created and i was a member of several channels. People have been telling him to stop for as long as i can remember, and now, finally, its driving people over the edge and making them leave. And he *still* insists on continuing, since "its his network and he'll do what he wants with it".

    I mean, really. You'd think hed get a hint when an entire network is created just to get away from him.

    I hope the network rots away in front of him so he can truly understand the bullheadedness of his actions. OFTC is just as good without the wallops.

    As for #debian... move to OFTC!^_^

    I never said it was all dubbyas fault. I said he woulnd't do anything aobut it. And also, please note, that this is a reference to the oversisized government, not specific people.

    Uhh... yea, thats the whole point of running a business, you know? to make money? Espeically publicly traded ones...

    Ironically, cooperation *not* to buy microsoft product could be viewed as illegal cooperation between companies. Funny that! I'll bet the'd be punished in 6 months with hefty fines, too.

    I'm not bitter. Really. -_^

    ... and of course, our lovly government won't do a damn thing about it, because we have big-company loving Dubbya in office who has no problems with the current state of affairs, and despite what trash comes out of his mouth, will do as little as he can while still holding public opinion.

    If you don't believe me, i've got some Worldcom stock i'd love to sell ya.

    Our only hope is that the remaining states that care about this take this all the way though and some real punishments will come out of it.

    but i'd rather see the neo-editors win. The way i see it, you deny them the right to do that, you give the movie-makers more power to "do what they wish" and own everything and anyone related to the movie.

    Like live on it, maybe?

    Granted, it would be a several-centrury task at the very least, but all this observation on mars has had the overtones of "how much like earth is it" and "can it sustain life" and "is there life there already?". The idea is that at some point in our existance, we may want or need to inhabit the planet - which would involve atmospheric adjustment and the addition of foliage.

    But before that, we have to get there. This is a step in the right direction!

    They better be careful. it could get them in the same trouble with the DOJ as microsoft.

    and whats with those popups? like, excuse me? when i delete the icon the first minute its booted, i'm sure as hell not gonna want to deal with popups. i think thats crossing the line a bit. And the frequency of them! its like...(/rant time=premature reason=sanity)

    Its so hard to write a book on linux administration. Either you can take the general approach and cover all of the distrobutions (which often leave gaps in specific areas) or cover 1 distrobution (and leave gaps in more areas in other distros). I know in my browsing of the Linux Administration books, most try to take the general approach. I think i'm a bit biased for that, myself, since it doesn't block out any aspects just by the choice of distro (like, what if someone trying to admin a slack machine read this? no help for the BSDinit stuff).

    Nothin beats good ol experience.

    the PS4, to be released in q3 of 2005, will come complete with expansion bays, to install extra DVDROMs - no more switching DVDs in a game, or even jump from one game to another, hands free! It will come with the 750Gig HD, 4Gig of ram (2Gig of VRAM). It was also announced that the unit will be upgradable, so the user can upgrade the video, RAM, or even hard drive space as the user sees fit! It will come in a sleek PS4 Casing Unit that looks much like a minitower case...

    hey, wait a minute....

    In a related story, it has been reported that linux has been ported to the PS4 beta machines with minimal effort...

    Soon we're gonna have a "Console" PC and a "Standard" PC. This could be the "death of the console", only not as most people envisioned it.

    It doesn't matter if its open source or not. I (and many of my collegues as well) you can't take a bad idea, make it open source, and have it be a good idea...except that the contributors to the project can program it into a good idea if they do it right... but thats asking too much too early.

    it can do everything my real linux system can do - namely X and Xapps. That day, money will be no object....

    but this is still damn cool. Port Etherial to it, have it dump its results to a networked computer...you have your own personal spypet! Of course, the government probably has had them for years...:c)

    good point, but i think their reasons are slightly different.

    they can't charge subscription rates on products that aren't MS :) if microsoft released a subscription version of windows and office today, i think you'd see a lot of people take the plunge to linux. Its the "alternative". All of a sudden, they can't haphazardly push things onto poeple and say "too bad". It now requires tactic. They push to far, they may push them over the OS war lines.

    Call me chicken, but i see a legal battle in the near future. Microsoft challenging the legality of the GPL. What happens then? what if the GPL is deemed /dev/null by the courts? I'm not a pessimist, and i think the GPL has merit, but we're talking about a multi-billion dollar coorporation with premium lawers, a government that takes campaign kickbacks while their swarmed with paid "lobbyists", and a presidency that is favorable to the MS monopoly. Does anyone else see this as a problem? What would happen if the GPL was struck down by the courts?

    even removing the "useless" stuff like "driver (female) loaded successfully" can be helpful...i mean, what if the next message is "driver (male) failed: seat full (IRQ 11)"? without the previous message, all we know is *something* is using IRQ 11. even if the first driver didn't specify what IRQ it was using (as in my example) we know its one of the drivers before driver(male) and not after. When you load lots and lots of drivers, this can be a big help! Insert witty comment here.

    the more people who use open source, the less people will be screwed by .NET and the MS ownership of all your data, as well as licence renewal BS. This is a big deal, if you ask me. The first step is always the hardest.
