I'm 21 years old, and my knee is in such bad shape it is about the same as a healthy 85 year-old's knee! I damaged my knee at age 15, and it has never been the same since. I have around 10-20% of the cartiladge I should have. Having said that, I am incredibly anxious for this to play out. Currently, I have no recourse to fix my knee rather than not be athletically active, which pains me a great deal. A doctor in Atlanta does a cartiladge graft from a cadaver, but the surgery costs $60K, and requires a year of rehab. It's a pretty unique surgery. I believe I read he is the only one in the world that does it. He performed the operation on a offensive lineman from Florida State, a guy who's knee was like that of a 65 year old man, and he was a candidate for pre-season All-American after the surgery. To me, that's amazing. If this technique of growing cartiladge from fat turns out to be practical and relatively inexpensive, I'd be the happiest person in the world. Reading this article made my week.
To me the difference between a programmer and a artist is how much structure or lack there of to a project. An artist starts with a blank canvas, and is only bound by imagination. A programmer on the other hand, may be intensely creative, yet is bound by the confines of the programming language.
Both are creative individuals, however, and I believe that is were the similarities lie. Artists can be creative, and programmers can be creative, but that does not mean all artists are programmers and all programmers are artists. BigCat79
The fact that Microsoft's stock price has dropped from a high of $120 per share in December of 1999 to around $58 per share today is a pretty good indicator of a company on the ropes, if not dying
Using stock price as indication of a dying company is utter crap. If that was the case, I guess Yahoo, Qualcomm, Cisco, Amazon, Red Hat, et al are all going away because their stock prices are only a shadow of what they once were.
I'm in the same boat as you are in some regards. I'm 21, working full-time and going to school full-time. I find I have problems regarding my age more with customers than with my coworkers. Once my coworkers learned I was competent, they were fine. I believe that's true with any new employee, regardless of age.
But with customers, age definitely seems to play a part. For instance, my company is the developer/solution provider for our document management and workflow package. I was on a customer service call one time regarding the document management piece. There was an error. I knew for fact that it was a problem with Word they were having, not our software. I told them repeatedly, showed them proof, etc. The customer never believed me. So I paged our lead tech, a guy who's about 35-40. He came over, said it was Word, and they immediately said 'Ok' and thanked him profusely for helping him, and suggested they train me more! It really pissed me off. After that, I pretty much swore off customer service calls, and switched to Web development only.
I don't charge $75 a person to watch me use the bathroom like the teams charge to see a game. It's for public entertainment. My point was the XFL is less concerned with image than the NFL and routinely shows it. I made no remark regarding privacy. BigCat79
If they are going to recreate items from video games, why can't the recreate something really cool? Like the Super Mushroom or Fire Flower from Super Mario Brothers. It would give whole new meaning to flaming some one.
It's hard to get behind the idea that you could invade the collective privacy of football teams and coaches in prime-time television.
Give me a break. The NFL players grunt, curse, and everything else too. They just don't mike all the players up. Remember when the player introductions during the Super Bowl? I heard the 'f' word at least 3 times. According to people at the stadium, they heard it several more times over the PA system. It's not an invasion of privacy. They're just taking what really goes on and putting it out there for the world to see.
I remember a correlation/causation error my college Poli-Sci teacher told us about. In a three month period, the murder rate and the amount of ice cream sold increased at a very similar rate in New York city. Some researcher concluded there was something in ice cream that induced homicidal tendencies. What the research did not look at was the three months in which it happened: June, July, and August.
I love my PDA. I use it to store around 300 names, addresses, phone numbers, weeks of appointments, and a myriad of other things. How much of this information do I use reguraly? Almost none. However, the important stuff such as family's birthdays, my anniversary, phone numbers of those I use often are remembered. Why, off the top of my head, would I need to know my college roommate for a semester's telephone number off the top of my head? I don't. That's why it's in my PDA. I have better things to remember.
And just because a trend of memory lapses happens to coincide with the increased usage doesn't mean anything. Before Palms, Visors, et al, they had their little day runner planners and such. It's a very flawed cause and effect statement. It's almost like taking the information that killings and ice cream in a 3 month period in New York increased at the same rate, leading someone to believe that ice cream induces homicidal fervor. Who cares if those 3 months are June, July, and August. Utter BS.
What gets me is that the same people who complain about the tobacco companies killing people is that they ignore alcohol. Alcohol also kills people, whether its long and slow like cirrosis of the liver, or quickly as in a car crash while driving drunk. It seems like a double standard to me. Despite parallels between the two:
1) You must choose to do either.
2) You can die a slow death.
3) You can harm/kill others doing it (second hand smoke or drunk driving accident).
I'll never forget how I came about seeing the Challenger explode. I was in second grade. All the classrooms had TVs brought in to watch the launch. Well, about 1 minute before the launch it was time for everyone to go to lunch. I dropped my lunchbox and everything flew out and scattered. While I was picking up everything, the shuttle launched and blew up. I was in total shock. Because everyone else was at lunch, my teacher and I were the only ones in the school supposedly to see it explode. I'll never forget it.

However, the way I see it is that he is being true to his nature, not putting a nice, clean persona on to cover his tendencey to use profanity. How many CEOs and other high ranking board members of major corporations use profanity in private, only to emerge into the public as the perfect, well-rounded, oh-my-gosh-no-I-would-never-use-profanity front? I would much rather see someone be honest and open about who they are rather than have them to kowtow to what is "publicly acceptable".

I agree. Percentages are decieving. M$ is 20% minorities, but M$ has only 2.6% blacks. Basically, they feel the Microsofties are using targeted racism, rather than being unfair to all minorities. Based on the basic definition of racism (dislike of someone because they are not your race), they may have trouble with this lawsuit.
Another problem they may have a problem with is how much the plantiffs are asking for. Regardless of how much money M$ is worth, $5 billion is a lot of cash. The jury may feel that the plantiffs are just greedy and opportunistic, which may lead them to vote in favor of M$ just because the disagree with the damages sought, whether or not M$ is actually guilty. I definitely see a potential for this to backfire. BigCat79

I'm not in a position to say the US is the best having never lived anywhere but there. Every country has its disadvantages. My uncle lives in Germany and complains of high taxes. I mean outrageously high. A $100 per TV tax. Income tax of around ~50% or more. The list goes on. From what I have read, other European countries are similiar. To each his own, but I feel no one can really say one country is better than another without having actually lived in both places. BigCat79
I've been wondering. Aren't parents responsible for what there children do when they are under 18? I know if a 16 year old is in a car accident and is sued, the parents are on the hook for the money. Does this mean that the parents will be responsible for the fraud before he turned 18 (if he has been running the site that long?) Did they even know he was doing this scamming? BigCat79
I find that with programming, knowledge of the language is less important than being able to apply that language to reach a goal. Anyone who is good at memorization can learn a programming language. But to actually utilize that skill in an effective manner, problem solving is the key component. At least in my opinion.

I'm sure it wouldn't be two big of a hit on the 8MB models, but it would probably put a decent dent in the 2MB ones.
