No I haven't :-( But at the CD rental service where I worked they always protect the label side with a plastic sticker to prevent scratching of the metal layer like I described. And you can of course stick the stickers described on e68.com to the label side in the same way as they show. I think that makes more sense anyway.

  3. Re:That makes me wonder on Say Goodbye To Your CD-Rs In Two Years? · · Score: 1

There you are not correct. On what you call the data side the data is protected by a thick layer of plastic. On the other side of the CD, the label side, the data (the pits in the metal layer) is only protected by a thin layer of plastic. So scratching the label usually does a lot more damage than scratching the other side of the CD. So the sticker has to be applied to the label side. It is transparent so you can still read the label after application. Scratches in the thick protective layer on the data side can be repaired by filling them with a material with the same refractive index as the CD itself. There are also kits for that. I'm sure you can find them using Google.

You can buy special transparant stickers for that. They cover almost the whole CD. You need a tool to stick them on properly. See here.

I'n none of the gamers mentioned in the article. I do, however, spend quite a lot of time playing adventure games. After a few years in coma, it seems like this genre is coming 'round again, fortunately for me and lots of others. Yesterday I learned that Jane Jensen (the author of the fantastic Gabriel Knight series) is making an adventure game for The Adventure Company. And there's a new Tex Murphy adventure in the works too. Check The Unofficial Tex Murphy Website for details.

Thanks for improving my English. What I forgot to write (but most people will see that right away) is that this system is difficult to tamper with because all votes are on the same piece of paper so no votes can be easily added or removed.

Maybe a voting machine that produces a roll of paper with all the votes written on it close to each other (like the machines they use in stores, which I don't know the English name for, but you get a small paper receipt that shows how much you paid) is in order. The counting of the votes goes very quickly with the computer and in case of doubt there is this long slip of paper that is difficult to tamper with if the right ink is used.

Well, I have a G3 iMac with 160 MB and it used to run OS-X just fine. It wasn't very fast but you could certainly work with it. But because I find the Aqua interface total and utter crap I put Yellowdog Linux on it. That I can configure to my taste... There isn't much speed difference with OS X, only the scrolling is much smoother.
