BREIN is just as bad as the RIAA/MPAA just on their won. They don't need the US to guide them. Which doesn't mean the Netherlands isn't a lap dog of the US. BUt in this case, I don't think the US had much to do with it.
That's easy. Pay them more money than the companies who want SOPA pay them to get your message across.
Getting laws like SOPA introduced is much cheaper for companies than actually making good products that sell well, thanks to the way the American government works.
Education at a university doesn't only learn you what's in the books. What is in the books may not even be the most important stuff that you learn. It's about learning how to find relevant data, how to do research, how to work together with people you may or may not like, and all these other little things connected to scientific knowledge that can not be found in books.
I wholeheartedly agree. My doctor tells me not to smoke, drink, eat too much salt etc etc... If I do all that I can just as well kill myself because life isn't worth living then.
I love 19th century literature. And the litrature sparked my interest in the Victorian Age in England. What makes that extra fun is that there were people back then who just described the common things in London especially, such as the police force, the work houses, the prisons you went to when you couldn't pay your debts anymore, etc. There's a lot to be found on Gutenberg.
For your information, Africa is not a country but a continent. Africa contains a lot of countries, one of which is the country South Africa. They have many problems there but starvation is not one of them, as holds for most countries in Africa.
That's why they have that blog, so they can claim that blocking their site is a violation of freedom of speech.
Files don't violate anything. People violate things.

He didn't give his life, he was murdered. And we already had freedom of speech before he was killed. Don't make more out of it than it was.

Cars don't kill people. People kill people!
Yes, pity about that. If MS hadn't existed we would have had the stuff we now take for granted 15 years ago.
For scientists, like me, it's basically the only way. I've never managed to get a job in the 'normal' way.

Yes, if the US continues on the path that they seem to have taken we in Europe will have a parallel internet too.
Thank you thank you thank you. I couldn't have said it better myself. It's a pity that you can't get more than 5 points.
2012 is the year in which Linux on the Desktop will be just around the corner!
I did. A calculator. Actually, all the calculators I bought in my life never needed an upgrade.
OK then build it in 82 hours. But seriously, it would be cool to have such a model in Legoland.
But theydon't know any better because their computers at home and work also had to reboot often until recently. So they won't care much.
One of my friend's kids wanted to place a dinosaur in the Christmas stall he built yesterday. A true believer and righteous boy, he is.
Blowing up those ridiculously old and big statues was also the right thing to do.
Is that why I had to say "Yes I'm over 17" before I could download Opera for my iPhone?

Yep. Liberty and justice for all corporations!
That means no washing machines and kitchen appliances! Back to the 19th century!
