Sorry for replying to myself, but if you have to ask this question on/. you'd better not start the whole 'converting business' because you will probably get more questions and remarks than you can handle. First try to find a Linux distribution that looks extremely user-friendly to you, get to know it thoroughly, and then ask people if they want to try it as an alternative to Windows.
Before you begin, ask the people you want to help if they are willing to try something else than MS software. They are probably quite familiar with Windows, Office, Outlook, and Media Player, and will have a hard time learning something new. That also means you will be asked a LOT of questions, mostly things that you can not even come up with because they are so logical to you. So: know what you get into before you begin!
Why doesn't the US company stop them? Cause the markets that they really care about and make profit in (US and Europe) have heavy enough disincentives to make bootlegging insignificant in comparison to the costs of further stopping them. Plus, the majority of the bootlegging sector can't or won't afford your product anyway. They aren't a customer to begin with, so why stop them from subsidizing your purchasing costs to the 3 shift vendor.
Now when will the RIAA understand that and stop their manhunting?
As far as I know they have troubles getting the rights back from GameTap. I don't understand why they hadn't expected this. I think we should call this a bit too much of careful optimism by Cyan.
It was so much fun. When the European football competition was going on, in 2006 or so, all not-football lovers would gather in the City and have conversations about anything but football there. When the Dutch were playing I was dressed in orange. And of course everybody still wanted to know if 'their' club was winning or not.
I totally agree with you that Cyan has no business sense. Putting all their money on the next Myst game, and as a result being continuously on the brink of bankruptcy has never really done them good. Giving or selling (part of?) the rights to Uru to GameTap also wasn't a smart decision in the long run. Cyan is run by artists, not business people. I don't think Cyan opening a server but not doing anything else now is 'throwing a bone' at their fans. I think they genuinely wanted to show they still care about their fans. And what they did now is better than nothing.
Yeah, everything was better in the olden days. I remember when we could just bash everything but Linux, but now freakin' COMPANIES sometimes do things right! What is the world coming to...
I am truly speechless by your ignorance unwillingness to see the facts. We have had two wars over oil already. Russia uses the gas tap to Georgia, Europe and White-Russia as a means of power play. Doesn't that tell you something? Fossile fuels are getting scarce! And now you will come with the argument that "there is still an enormous amount of coal in Africa." That is true, but mining that coal will mean us getting dependant on African countries with their megalomanic leaders, which in practice will lead to more wars and more exploitation of the already poor people there. And no, nuclear power is not an option in the long run because there isn't enough nuclear fuel out there for more than 50 years or so. That means more wars in 50 years from now. Is taht the price you are prepared to pay for your wealthy lifestyle?
How cool is that: a whole article of which I didn't understand one word because I thought it was about making games for people who are not so agile anymore as they used to be, so they need games that rely on wit and intelligence rather than fast reactions.
Sharks have rough skins to make them go faster through the water. Besides, have you ever seen a fraight train wagon? They usually have very non-aerodynamic surfaces, so a thin layer of dust would also not make any difference in that regard.
I think the Nokia N900 is the coolest smartphone out there at the moment, partly because it's so open. But even when you don't want to tinker with it, it blows the iPhone away in terms of multitasking, bluetooth, keyboard and lots of other things.
The first iSync plugin for the N900 came out 6 days ago. Now FF 1.0 is also out for it, I don't think it will be too long before I buy one. That thing really blows the iPhone away. But I still need it to be able to sync with my Mac.
Pole Position is not an adventure game. And have you checked the links?
Try an adventure game.
I think it was all just for fun and not for real.
Oh man what must their friends and family have thought...
Thank you. That is exactly what I meant. I didn't mean to flamebait in any way, I just wanted to give some extra advice.
Well, you're a freak, so we're even :)

Well, they need to do way instain mother, of course.
They also told me that when my battery spontaneously combusted.

Why is this informative? It isn't even backed by any data that can be used as proof! Please Apple fanboy moderators, use your head, not your guts.

One ton on a 1000 or even more ton train is nothing. Even on one wagon it's not really something to worry about.

Showoff ;)
Apple had better name it the iPod Touch Macro.
A friend of mine has a Hyundai Coupé with a V6 engine and he never had real problems with it. Really bad cars don't exist anymore.
