On a very fast computer I still prefer Corel Draw over Inkscape, maily because it has some functions Inkscape lacks. But indeed, Corel is now so bloated and slow it's almost unusable. At work we changed from Corel 9 to Corel 13 (X3 as they call it), and I had to get a new computer just to have it run at an acceptable speed. Even on my 2.8 GHz iMac at home it's sluggish sometimes. I hope Inkscape 0.47 has the functions I use a lot in Corel Draw so I can say goodbye to Corel Draw.
I don't understand all this hoopla about why it took so long. When a new machine is brought into our clean room, it usually takes three months before it runs more or less smoothly. The LHC is a bit bigger than our cleanroom and has many more parts. So much more has to be tested, finetuned, etc. before it can even be brought up after a big repair like it had. I think almost two years is a good time in which to do the repair and all that tweaking.
I know that. It is the result of George's 'green' plan, which he launched a couple of years ago to show his concern about the environment^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H oil companies.
Eventually they will have to. I am afraid though, that they first will tap the enormous coal resources in Africa, wreaking havoc in the communities there in the process.
One of these small cells in a Tesla would make it an awesome car. Two of them in a Tesla would make it an even more awesome car. I really think the future is fuel cells, not batteries. Batteries are just a 'bridging' technology until we have overcome all the challenges surrounding a conversion to fuel cells and hydrogen fuel.
'Crap' indeed was way over the top. I apologize. I was annoyed by the Open Source fanboi I replied to. I use Gimp myself to enhance my photos a bit before they come to rest in their dedicated directories on the harddrive.
So you choose crap of which you can view the source code over something that actually works nicely with a hidden source code? How do you get your work done on time and with the right quality then?
Compared to keeping your body at 37 degrees, exercise hardly costs any energy. It just makes you healthier. The only way to lose weight is by eating less, and eating low-calory food.
As has been said many times in this thread already, you don't HAVE to use DRM. I guess there are a lot of people who publish on Lulu who don't want a free-to-spread PDF of their work roaming around the world, diminishing the profits from their hard work. Now they have an extra option to offer people their work and get paid for it. Most people don't care about DRM at all, so what is the problem?
That is not important. As far as I understand, only parts of the interface will be opened up. The protocul will stay closed, so you can't use in it anything but Skype. I had much rather seen it the other way around. Open protocols and document formats are far more important than open source.
Linux may not have made it to the desktop, but isn't Linux on your phone (Android, Maemo) way cooler? Who ever thought of that in 1995, when Linux on the desktop was just around the corner! Linux on the phone was never just around the corner; it was just there when needed!
Why this was tagged !important is beyond me. This only has plus points! It is a very important step in reducing carbon- and other needless emissions. Imagine how much this saves in copper and other materials! The price of phones and other appliances can go down a small bit because the consumer doesn't have to pay for a charger every time it buys a new one. Packages become smaller so shipping new phones costs less energy. Shops can store more phones in the same space, so the chance that the phone you want is out of stock will become smaller... I could go on and on. This is a giant leap for the environment and the consumer!

Let's see who is right :)

Who cares about the US. Europe and Africa and South America together are a much bigger market.
Man, I should quit posting here! I will go hide in a corner now...
Yes! I hope they all flock to Maemo to develop for the awesome Nokia N900 and its children and competitors.

I know bribery is accepted practice in the US but here in the EU it is still frowned upon.

Why not? You can still buy printed books there.

I have no idea. I use Fring every now and then, and I always wondered how they do it. Maybe they have a license? How do they make money anyway?

It is in 3D, the 3th dimension being time.

If everyone always developed for stuff that was out already we would still be eating raw meat off cadavers we found.
That is certainly true. Rincewind said it already in the second Discworld novel: "I like boring. It lasts."
My two rabbits have been checking their filesystems all afternoon yesterday.
But why would people want to develop software for Symbian now that there is Maemo? Maemo is much more of an adventure because it's new.
Running out of juice with an e-book must feel as if all the pages that you still have to read are suddenly glued together.
