    Anyone who pays atention to the fifth-to-eigth grade history classes knows that some events are important in the lives of everyone for centuries on ... even if people don't know about them. It's a matter of paying attention ONLY, IMHO. I know that _I_ know why and how the Russian Revolution impacts my day-to-day life (my country had a CIA-backed military coup in the 1960's, with the Commies as escapegoats)

    my car on-board computer gives "mileage" in l/100km ... and I don't think this measurement is very useful. I prefer to know how far I will go on a litre, and not how much will it cost to go 100 km.

    * 1 mile = 1.609 km
    * 1 gallon = 3.785 l
    * 1 mile / gallon = 0.425 km/l

    Actually, casinos have a very simple method to sense if you are cheating: you are winning.

    Other way to put it: the house always wins; if the client is winning, he's cheating. Period.

    AFAIK, pirated copies are not sold copies. Artists get a cut of _sold_ or (publicly) _performed_ copies (after ALL the costs or producing are deducted), but they don't get absolutely _nothing_ from piracy settlements and lawsuits.

    I can't think of anything clearer than map or list (examples that apply to java, also), or:

    Maintain your code in an svk repository.
    Generate .debs of all packages you modify in the system (including one for depending on your whole-system).
    Use cmake to build your binaries.

    Mind you, I am owner of two cell phones and so much tech gear that takes me 15 minutes to enter a bank branch. But I put them on vibracall when I'm at a restaurant or movie theater, and I go to the bathroom or outside to take a call -- IF it's imperative that I take the call. I own a cell phone for the last 15 years and NEVER anyone "sssh"'d me. So, excuse me if I see a guy my age taking a call during the best part of a movie "no, dear, I'm still at the movie, yes, I'll bring home some Chinese, how is your sister going ..." out loud. Come on.

    No, that's why we need a Free Software substitute for Windows (*) and every proprietary app.
    (*) For me, those are there: I use kubuntu for almost all my computing needs.

    There are only two explanations which are possible here - either you're an extremely talented hard- and software hacker who's so good he's forgotten quite how hard most people find things like that, or you know bugger-all about either and you're talking out of your arse.

    Actually, it's option #3: I am not an ultra-talented hacker, but I really know where to get them by the dozens, both on-line and in-person. That's the question.
    And a quick look on my slashdot profile would bring you some other relevant info WRT your post...
