  1. UNANSWERED QUESTION: WHY NOT? on Peter Jackson Hints At The Hobbit · · Score: 1

I haven't seen this answered yet. Why would the estate not want a museum set up in New Zealand? Does anyone know the reason for this? Why would the estate not want The Hobbit to be made into a feature or mini-series? Why do they not like the current film trilogy?

  2. We need an Ars Technica logo here. on Ars Dissects POWER5, UltraSparc IV, and Efficeon · · Score: 1

Seriously. Every other day there's an Ars Technica this, an Ars Technica that. Let's make an icon for it.

  3. Re:Step-in-the-right-direction Dept.? on McDonald's Billion-Song iTunes Giveaway · · Score: 1

You think McDonald's would rather deal with distributing 70 million physical CD's, or 1 billion non-physical data files?

  4. Re:AAC is nice and all... on McDonald's Billion-Song iTunes Giveaway · · Score: 3, Interesting

It's kind of hard to complain about this when it's a free for the customer.

It's a lot easier distributing 1 billion songs online than 70 million cd's.

  5. Re:What better way to..... on McDonald's Billion-Song iTunes Giveaway · · Score: 5, Insightful

Except for the fact that a lot of good indie labels and songs are on iTunes now as well.

  7. I should license my own tool on Fight Woodworking Piracy: Add EULA Restrictions · · Score: 4, Funny

My tool has been used by way too many women far too long to make duplicates of me. In addition to charging women for the use of my instrument, I will require that they only use my hardware for personal use and not for creating pirated copies of myself.

  8. "Hell froze over" on Apple Releases iTunes for Windows · · Score: 1

Hahahaha, the online music distributor makes an appropriate joke with a music reference in their tagline.

Too bad "Hell Freezes Over" isn't available in the iTunes music store :\

First they release the regular edition Termination

    Then they release Final Termination

Then it's Ultimate Termination with extra litigation that was cut from the original edit

Afterwards they do a new transfer with digital restoration (letters are easier to read) and call it Extreme Termination!

  19. The Zen has always had more features and yet, on 60G Nomad Zen vs. The iPod · · Score: 3, Interesting

The iPod has a more ergonomic and intuitive interface.

    The iPod has better construction.

The iPod will work with the iTunes Music Store when it comes out for Windows later this year. The Zen won't. What does it work with, WMA's? Yes, for those wonderful WMA music stores that are all the rage nowadays.

The iPod is kicking its ass in the marketplace, and for good reason.

  21. And wait till the Windows version comes out. on Apple Sells A Million Songs in Debut Week · · Score: 3, Insightful

Very few people have mentioned this, and I think it bears notice.

The sales so far only represent Mac owners in the United States.

How much larger is the Windows user base? We're going to have a Windows version later this year.

How much larger is the international market? Apple's going to start taking International sales soon.

On top of that, Fortune magazine reports that Apple is in talks with AOL to have iTunes be the official music player/music store of America Online. How many more sales will that be?

We're only seeing the tip of the iceberg, folks.
