Not at all. After WWI ended the germans were forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles that severely crippled them economically. It was mainly through the level of dissatisfaction people had with their quality of life (which was caused by the Treaty), that Hitler was able to gain power.

I give you a lot of credit for actually knowing that. Sadly, most people don't bother to see opposing sides and what drove people to such extremes. Most people just label "good" and "evil".

All of that being said, being poor has little to do with happiness nor driving people to wage war. It is usually relative wealth. Think about the "rich" kid in the slums, whose mother makes just a bit more than the other poor single moms, and can afford to give the kid a few extra luxuries. They feel rich because they're better off than everyone else they know. Germans knew they were in terrible shape compared to the rest of the world, and it's that thinking that really drives these things.

It's also evident in billionaires who "aren't rich enough" because their other billionaire friends have more money than them. I think this was already covered on /. but it's worth repeating.

Wow, I really, really want to agree with you. In fact, I do agree with you, but there's just one little thing:

"The reason you write an ammendment is to keep the government from doing something that otherwise it might have an inclination to do."
Uhmm... The reason you write an amendment is, well just read this. An amendment is an "alteration of a writ or bill" (to remove its faults).

It comes from old french "amender" (to correct).

I think what you mean to say is that a rights were written into constitutional law to keep the government from infringing upon them. The bill of rights specifically was written as a set of amendments instead of as a part of the constitution for a lot of other reasons. Wikipedia says "It had been decided earlier that the Bill of Rights would be added to the Constitution in the form of amendments (the list of rights was not inserted into the text of the Constitution because it was feared that modifying the document's text would necessitate the rather painful process of re-ratifying the Constitution)."

In other words, the bill of rights is a set of amendments that attempt to ensure certain rights for citizens. Not all amendments ensure rights. Some take them away. This was evident in the 18th amendment, and will soon be evident in the 28th amendment. The 18th outlawed the sale and consumption of alcohol. The 28th is going to outlaw gay marriage. Did I say outlaw gay marriage? I meant it's going to protect the right of straight couples to marriage by ensuring that the term marriage is properly defined.

So to answer your question, the writers of the constitution didn't write an amendment to gurantee the right of the armed forces to be armed. It already wrote that in the constitution.

However, all that the media could seem to report is that for some "unexplainable" reason FEMA was keeping rescuers from the victims.

It's not unexplainable why the media does that, though. All politics and other bullshit aside, the media could either "blame the government" (always a winner) or "blame the victims". Which one would you rather be seen doing?

Are plenty of the "victims" to blame? Yes. There were people who refused to evacuate, and should've known what would happen. They're directly to blame, regardless of any self-inflicted loss or suffering they may have endured.

Were there people who were incapable of leaving? Yes, of course. And that's an issue that, in a fair society, would lead to gross criminal negligence charges against various mayors, governors, and emergency managers.

But my overall point is that the true victims are going to be what the media focuses on. They won't tell you about the people refusing to leave or making the situation worse for themselves. And they're ALWAYS going to blame the government when it's between an individual that people can sympathize with and the government. Period.

Microsoft is secretly funded and run by an alien-controlled organization within the government. Their goal is to lower the defenses of the entire planet by disabling technology-based weapons while simultaneously turning the entire military into mindless drones via Death By Powerpoint.

The current status of this project can not be fully determined at this time, but several sources indicate that the success of this project has consistently exceeded the original timeline and expectations.

This project has also yielded several unexpected benefits for the alien-controlled organization:
    a) It has quickly become a cash cow, enabling the funding of many other projects.
    b) It serves as a collection point for the world's evil, improving recruitment for the future Army Against Humanity.
    c) It has created mass frustration with technology, stifling progress of the human race.

Yes, absolutely! I used a system like this for several years. I had my entertainment center several feet away from my computer desk, and I had some awesome speakers setup. We're talking the 50+ pound variety. I believe they were rated at about 400W/piece. Anyways, I just ran a simple splitter from my computer into one of the inputs on my receiver and was good to go. Great for watching DVDs on the computer, playing Counter-Strike, or listening to MP3s! I highly recommend setups like this to anyone.

Even your standard crappy home theatre system is generally a lot better than the computer speakers being sold, and you can get used speakers pretty cheap. You don't need any of the spiffy new 7.1 channel digital receivers, so an old Harmon Kardon receiver should be pretty cheap to get too.

Anyways, back to figures again. Japan is probably the third most SECURE country on the planet. The overwhelming american military presence, combined with their location and high-tech military means it'd take one hell of a military to be able to actually invade the country.

But in terms of having a powerful military, not so much. I'd say America clearly has the most powerful military right now, Russia may still be second (they still have a lot of skilled troops and a ton of great equipment, they're just low on funding to fix it up and put diesel in it. That could change VERY quickly) but North Korea, China, and Israel all have extremely powerful militaries as well. And by extremely powerful, I mean they really could obliterate damned near any country not on this list. This is also ignoring Britain and Canada. People may laugh when I mention Canada, but their military is quite well equipped and very well trained. It's a small military, but extremely capable. And that means very powerful.
