Elgin marbles, Sears catalog, National Geographic, your local art museum. How about the neighbor's bathroom window? What else can we keep the children from being traumatized by? Meanwhile people are beating, starving, raping and killing their own kids even as we sit and read this.
"When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out."

Sounds like my high school freshman algebra course. The teacher was a genius, but had something like a stroke while fishing and a foghorn went off right next to him, basically paralyzing his entire left (or right? it was a long time ago) side. I did very well in the class - A with extra credit actually, even though I'm dyslexic and can't add 24+42 without getting something backwards - but he didn't get rehired because he told the parents of one girl that she wouldn't have failed if she'd paid more attention in class instead of sitting at the back giggling and flirting with the boys. His speech did improve as the year progressed.
My high school world history teacher had such a heavy Brooklyn (NY) accent that nobody in the school (northern California) could understand him. So some years before I was in his class he had developed the technique of writing every word he said on the blackboard as he said it, including the answers to questions. The class was easy to ace, since all you had to do was copy as he wrote and get full extra credit for the "notes". However, we only covered about 1/4 of the official history book since his method took so much time.
Interesting that someone who feels that a person with strong religious feelings must be intolerant, prejudiced and judgmental is himself so intolerant, prejudiced and judgmental. And neither of us were ever selected to sit on a jury in the more than 20 years we lived in that area, although we were both called up for jury duty several times and were perfectly willing to serve - which is more than I can say for a large percentage of the population who have opinions more in line with yours. I wonder, would you recuse yourself from serving on a jury where the defendant was a religious person?
That's a rather extreme example. Most religions still hold homosexuality to be a serious sin, while very few hold such extreme positions.
Should a member of the NAACP be dismissed because a member of the Black Panthers might be prejudiced against a white defendant? How about Catholics? Should any Muslim be dismissed because of the radical behavior of a few? Should any relative of any law enforcement personnel be dismissed? How about veterans, if the defendant never served in the military? What if the defendant is a veteran and the prospective juror participated in anti-war protests in the 60's?
And yes, this is becoming rather diffused, and as far as your concerns over someone getting a fair trial, that's a fair concern. But I still hold to my point that a general, off-handed dismissal of anybody who might have a poor opinion of a defendant's personal life which has nothing to do with the issue at trial is going too far.
So you are saying that to deny a group of citizens the right to participate in one of America's core activities because of their religious beliefs is acceptable. It used to be because of one's sex, or the color of one's skin. How about one's sexual orientation, or one's disabilities? Should such as we be denied the vote, since we might vote for someone who would support beliefs and positions you don't? You make it sound more like a schoolyard clique excluding others just because you don't like them. Except the USA is not a schoolyard, and excluding others because you don't like them is a not an acceptable policy.
So much for freedom of religion and tolerance. It works both ways, you know. That word "presume" has a negative connotation for a good reason. No compromise was necessary; the defendant was not a member of our sect; our rules did not apply to him. We had no desire to enforce our beliefs on others; if one wanted to join and abide by our rules, fine. If not, fine. "Who are you to criticize someone else's servant? He stands or falls before his own Lord-and stand he will, because the Lord makes him stand."
My husband got disqualified "for reason" because we belonged to a rather strict Christian sect, and the defendant was divorced, so it was presumed that my husband would be prejudiced against the defendant.
I once went to a small real estate office with five desks to quote them a price on networking their office, including a printer. They decided it wasn't worth it. Since they were so small, and all in one room, floppy disks and sneakernet worked fine for them. Whenever they wanted to print something, they just faxed it from Word to their office fax machine, which had its own phone number.
A fortune 100 company undoubtedly has a site-wide licensing agreement with Microsoft to cover just such mass installations. As long as their license agreement covers as many seats as they have employees, they're in compliance.
At the time, I understood it was something to do with the IBM non-disclosure agreement. DR's lawyers didn't like it. Gates was willing to sign anything to get the deal.
Funny you should mention the mercury based preservative business. I've been waiting to hear the conspiracy theories blossom over this one http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/12/101203-homosexual-birds-mercury-science/
Indeed, the Soviet Union provided advisers to Arafat from the beginning to guide him in a propaganda campaign to destabilize Western influence in the entire area. The hijacking of history from Jewish and Christian historical links into Muslim history before Islam ever existed is only one facet of the campaign to drive Western influence from the Middle East, starting with Israel. Israel is only the first target. After all, the US is the Great Satan; Israel is only the Little Satan.
The Soviet Union provided a lot of the beginnings of the various genocidal intertribal wars in Africa when they moved in Cuban troops to support their own agenda. As the saying goes, when elephants fight the grass gets trampled. Making an Israeli/Palestinian show provides a handy smokescreen to what's really been going on for more than half a century. It'll be the little people, the Israelis, the Palestinians, the Lebanese, the various African groups being slaughtered that will suffer for the bigger conflict going on behind the scenes.
It's not a matter of charging for it. You can charge whatever you want for GPL-licensed software. The issue is the license under which you distribute your derivative work. If you use GPL-licensed code in your product, then if you distribute it, whether free or for a price, it has to be licensed GPL as well.
Or maybe you might learn what "open source" is. It is not necessarily free. It is not necessarily part-time. It merely means that the source code is available. Such a long bout of rabid typing for such a small amount of understanding.
If parents were not using these for electronic babysitters this wouldn't happen. Any parent who's paid any attention at all can tell you that children will use anything to keep from the boring old task of "studying". As long as parents think they can shirk their responsibility to force the children to sit down and study, and at least do their homework, children won't study, and they won't learn, and their grades will go down. Thirty years ago I knew young parents who were totally shocked at their younger children's poor performance in kindergarten and first grade. "But, but..." they'd all stammer, "Johnny has watched Sesame Street three times a day since he was six months old!" He can sing the MacDonald's song just fine, but he doesn't even know how to hold a pencil, let alone write any letters or numbers with it.
Most schools would have this in their music songbooks, so they would be covered. However, I first sang it in 4-H camp in 1963, and we had no books. The camp counselors and a few of the other kids just sang it and the rest of us learned it.
I don't know if this is the same outfit responsible for the Metrorail security as it was when I was working on the UM medical campus and lived in Hialeah. Most evenings when I got to the Hialeah stations the guard was in his car sleeping. I was mugged once, and on the second attempt successfully defended myself, all with no sign of the sleeping beauty in the car parked in front of the turnstiles. On one occasion, at the Martin Luther King station, in broad daylight, I was shoved aside and the young man "of color" went through the turnstile on my card. He went over to the young woman guard who was standing watching the whole incident, they did a "high five", and he went on up the stairs, while she tried to accuse me of lying about having a ticket. Actually I had a monthly pass, which very fortunately her friend hadn't noticed. Then she told me I couldn't let someone else go through on my pass! I had to threaten to call the police myself before she let me through.
I went through this same crap in the fourth grade when I had gone to the teachers to complain about bullying (punching, kicking, tripping, etc). I was a crybaby, a tattletale, and needed to learn to stand up for myself. Of course, when I finally hauled off and smacked one of the bullies that had been harassing me for years I immediately got suspended for fighting. So I'm not at all surprised at this attitude, and am perfectly aware that Israel can do no right. But references were requested, provided, and as expected half-read if read at all, and rejected. I've been amusing myself betting with myself how long it would be before I got a response like this, and how many of them I would get.

Of course, "tenants stop paying rent, tenants get evicted, new tenants move in" doesn't sound as interesting, does it?
And that is a classic misuse of it's.
