Here I'll do one, by 7 I was programming my IBM PC with fun little screen savers, by 14 I was creating sales tracking applications for my family's two corporations, by 16 I got a job offer to relocate to Dallas, TX and work for a very large corporation (I declined), by 17 I was hacking my computer programmer teacher's computer everyday and telling him his password (he later went on to become a systems security expert, scary), by 18 I created a trans-database server (i.e. xbase->firebird->mssql->etc) replication application, by 20 I created an internal tracking, workflow, and reporting system, by 26 I'm now working for my father's 3 corporations, being the sole R&D, development, and administrative person for the new one. I'm also currently working on embedded application development for pocket sized computers for the same 3 companies. I'm sorry but where were we going with this :-P ? I think a lot of slash-dotters here have similar backgrounds, our thirst for nerdly knowledge drives us. Also, I'm married, and thusly implications about my having sex could probably go either way :-P.

Maybe the genetic changes necessary will make it an almost inert virus that spreads really easily but causes little damage to the host? Who knows. Its gone all the way from east asia to west europe and its killed what, 100people??? Its just the media blowing yet another topic out of proportion because its convenient. Same with all this stupid mining disaster talks, what like people didn't die in mines before? Why is it all over the news with outcries for reform, when we didn't give a shit about it a month ago? Its just the topic of the moment blown out of proportion to make us feel all good and warm inside like we're helping somebody, while all we're really doing is ignoring just the right things that the people with just the right amount of money would like us to ignore.

Open source does not mean zero effort required. You could've started it back up, but you would rather just bitch about it going away. The code still existed and was still useful, right? Then why didn't you evangelize it a bit so people knew about it. If enough people are using it / know about it then they will ensure its survival. Additionally, even if the project itself goes away the code itself could very well be usable in other projects, so you could've tried evangelizing to other similar projects as well. Open source is not a free ride, it is a movement that is completely dependent on the community, users included.

I know there is already embedded Debian, not that I mind there being embedded Ubuntu. I just hope they don't spread themselves too thin. And secondly, instead of making another Linux that runs embedded, why don't they make a small handheld platform with touchscreen and USB host support so we can cheaply and easily make our own embedded projects easily from commodity parts?
