The distinction, however, is that these networks are designed specifically with the intent to facilitate copyright infringement. Or atleast, so goes the RIAA's argument.
Statements like this are like saying that "cars that can go faster than 65 MPH are intended to facilitate unsafe driving speeds and should be banned" or "knives that can cut through flesh, whether its dead cow or live human, are intended to facilitate the killing of people and should be banned"
Now, I willingly admit that I haven't read the history, background and FAQ of every P2P system in existence, but I have yet to see one with a home page that reads "Hello and welcome to the home page of KAZAA-GROKSTER-MORPHEUS-EDONKEY-NAPSTER-BITTORRENT - The most popular client written from the ground up to facilitate the illegal sharing of other people's copyrighted materials without their consent!!!!"
This is a test of a proportionally spaced font. This is only a test. In the event of an actual font emergency you would have been instructed to use only Times New Roman 14pt type.

Except for the indenting that using {ecode}{/ecode} induced, it's rather obvious that a proportionally spaced body font is much more narrow than a fixed width font like Courier New. On my 17" monitor, the text "This is a test of a proportionally spaced font. This is only a test." measures as 4" in length, in Courier it measures 5 5/8" in length. You mileage may vary.
Was the poster I responded to acting like an idiot and talking out of his ass? Yes.
My new conspiracy theory is that if they reduce the number of pages used, the corporation with the contract to provide the US Gov. with printer paper had threatened that they would withold some campaign contributions, or hike up their price so they make the same amount of money in the long run...
Open a new Word (or other word processor of choice) document and paste in multiple pages of text and format it all as Courier New 12 pt. Print it out.
Now convert it all to Times New Roman 14 pt and print it out. How many pages compared to Courier? The same or less, I'll bet you find.
Courier New is a monospaced font, you can fit a fixed number of characters per line, whether they are all i's or m's.
Times New Roman is properly kerned so that you can fit more characters per line as each character takes up only as much space as it needs.
It sounds like 14 pt would take up more space, and if you stay within one typestyle you would be correct, but Courier New is not space efficient so you actually do gain back more space and make it easier to read large blocks of text.
Good luck getting rid of Dish Network in the winter time, though. They come out and install it for you for free, but when you end your service they expect you to climb up on your icy roof and remove the LNB to send back to them, or else they bill you $150. You want a professional to come out and do it - $129. It's all a scam...
Disposable are more amenable to ripping since you get to keep the packaging, vs. with a rental you have to buy a DVD box (or jewel case if you're cheap), go to http://www.cdcovers.cc and print a liner for the case, etc.
You need to take your DVD collection out for a walk around the neighborhood at least once every 2-3 days so it can compare itself against your neighbors DVD collections.
You also need to worry about grooming, etc. Thankfully my neighborhood has a do-it-yourself DVD grooming parlor where they provide all the tools.
Brilliant! Have your people call my people. We'll have lunch and discuss this. Do you have someone in mind for the voice of the pie? I'm thinking Jason Biggs off the top of my head, kind of ironic, eh?
They make remote de-icers for the small dishes that work like the ones on a car's rear-window. A series of strips of electrical-resistive material that you can turn on to de-ice the dish for just such an occurence.
They also make EMF transparent cloth covers that you stretch over the whole thing to keep the snow from collecting and turning to ice.
There is software to strip Macrovision from VHS? Does it turn off the vertical-stabilizer-thingamajig on your video capture card? How exactly would that work otherwise?
In the same situation I look them in the eye and ask in as serious a tone as possible "but did you think happy thoughts while you were doing it?"
Most people realize I'm joking, but for those few special people who don't... they just made the list.

If you own it, it's not illegal, unless local ordinances require posting of "Video Surveillance Camers In Use" signs.
The issue is FORCING people to put up cameras even if the cafe owners don't want to, but because Big Brother wants them to.
I have Insight digital cable and in order to get TechTV I had to add the $5 per month "Sports Package". WTF?
It also includes G4, CourtTV, and a few other "Sports" channels...
Birds, airplanes, people, etc. will not block the signal. Anyone who claims that they will is on crack.
Or has had a large bird, airplane or people crash onto their roof directly on top of the dish.
I know people who get completely thrown off if one little dialog box that they don't recognize pops up.
You know my mom?
Or fill out those littls slips of paper and drop them in the "30 Free Days At the Gym" or "Free Info About Replacement Windows", etc.
Get as many telemarketers to call as possible.
Thanks, it's good to know that at least one /. reader was able to make the connection...

Heh, and I used to thinking hat pins through boxes of condoms was funny...
I was extraordinarily unclear in my statement.
"The law applies", should have read "the same legal exemption applies". My bad.
But my movie will have a talking pie.

Actually the law applies in most states if you are a licensed Ham operator.
going to have a clue amout M
Haha! You spelled "about" wrong in your post about other people's spelling errors!
Congratulations, Ralph Wiggum!

What are they smoking?
Apparently not cigars they got through the mail...

pirates used "p2p web sites"
Never been to any of these P2P web sites?
My apologies to those of you with the [display domain name] feature enabled.
There are only so many screeners sent out by studios
Last I saw the quote was there was something like 5200 members of the Academy who were on the list to receive screeners.
When it comes down to it, the more Dubya plays with his tanks, the more money could be saved by converting them to hydrogen.
Wow! If we just had a trillion tanks, we could save enough to pay off the national debt!
