Stupid comment by Vinh about Dreamweaver. 1. DW lets you code at the source code level if you choose. 2. DW is much faster--in Design View--at creating tables. 3. DW allows for flipping back and forth or split view. 4. DW does not rewrite your code (for the most part).
I use DW every day. I am not even conscious of flipping between the 2 views. Some things are done better in Design View and some in Code View.
"With Apple, you have to throw away EVERYTHING to get away from Apple." Not entirely true. The most expensive software on my iMac is Adobe CS3 Web Premium with a list price of $1600 USD. My upgrade from a previous Mac version to this one was $500. My friend upgraded from a previous Windows version to his current Mac version for $500. Adobe makes it easy to switch from one platform to another. It is true that most small pieces of software are completely different and you can't just switch back and forth. But, for most people, these add up to less than $300.
So, IE8 passes acid2. Good. Now, let's consider the real world. My customers' websites show IE with a browser share of 50-70%. But, that is typically 50/50 IE6 and IE7. So, how long will it take for IE8 to completely take over from 6 and 7? By my guesstimate, about 2 years. So, IE8 passes acid2, BFD. Wake me when 80+% of IE-using vistors use IE8.
I actually read the complete commentary by Steve Jobs. He is dead on. The music industry (RIAA and their cohorts in crime) have completely botched the distribution of music in an internet-enabled world.
Exactly. 1. Rip your own CDs. Legal. 2. Borrow your friends' CDs and rip. Not legal in USA. 3. Buy MP3s from AllofMP3.com. Legal in Russia. 4. Buy MP3s from eMusic.com. Legal.
Plenty of sources for music that don't involve iTunes Music Store.
I used Impression for over a year and really liked it. I used it because it did verification of the data written and this feature was very important to me. Unfortunately, Impression became an orphan and I switched to SuperDuper.
I agree. To me the point of a benchmark is not to tell me how this week's machine compares with last week's. To me the value of a benchmark lies in telling me if it is worth it for me to replace my "old piece of crap". That is, I want benchmark comparisons between this week and last year (or the year before that). All of this information (for Macs) is actually on the Macworld website. You just have to dig for it. I did for myself and put it at http://www.marketingtactics.com/Speedmark.html,dave
I support the idea of 8th graders and up having computers. Desktop computers at home and at school. I don't support the idea of laptops for kids. My personal thoughts based upon having a child recently graduate from high school.
1. It is important that children learn to use computers as it is impossible to get a "good paying" job without this ability. 2. It is important the children learn how to type quickly and accurately as they will be asked to type a lot in the near future. 3. Kids do not need a laptop as they have no need to carry a computer back and forth between school and home. 4. A desktop computer at home is much easier to supervise. 5. Teachers prefer typed papers over hand-written papers. And, we are not going back to the days of the Smith-Corona electric typewriter.
I was paid at very close to the starting wage for newly-hired engineers.
In fact, my last summer I was paid the same hourly rate as when I graduated a year later.
I think the work of students is about equal to a new-hire engineer so the pay should be comparable.
Apple, Google and RIM will be that much farther down the road.
Windows Mobile is dead.
No, it is spelled La Niña in both English and Español.
You, sir/madam, are an ignorant dolt.
Read books by Ed Yourdon written in the 1970s.

CSS support is very good in DW.
Very disappointing remark as I don't see any nasty changes on the pi.edu site.

Wasn't Hello Kitty going to conquer the USA? Not every Japanese trend can be extrapolated to the entire world.

Shouldn't it read "Radiohead have..." as they are British.
But, I don't feel sorry for AOL.
So easy to hate them for their horrible business practices.
May they disappear into dust.
My father is 85 and goes to Fidelity's website every day to check his investments. He knows what the internet is.
The judge is a fooking idiot.

I use Path Finder (http://www.cocoatech.com) every day, all during the day.
Can't imagine only having the Finder to use.

Fortunately, Impression has a new parent and is no longer an orphan. You can buy it at http://www.ineedyoursoftware.com/ .
I am sticking with SuperDuper for now as it extremely easy to use.
Both programs back up to standard Mac files so retrieval is not dependent upon any special software.
Exactly my first thought. ,dave

Looks like crap using Firefox 1.5 on Mac OS 10.4.6.
Crap is defined as:
1. fonts way too small
2. words overlapping each other
