Seriously, why should *I* pay *THEM* to extend their crappy coverage and ontop of that, piggy back on my broadband connection that I also pay for. If anything, they should be paying *US* to extend their coverage and use our resources. Why should we pay them to suck?
bfd (and apf if you like it) are probably the best software solutions your gonna find, but if you're facing 1 million+ auth failures, I would seriously consider a hardware firewall and VPN of some sort.
To me it just sounds like the OP's article is nothing but "Wah, I'm too stupid to read about something before I buy it" I realized Nintendo was at the bottom of the system upgrade cycle in around 1998. If he's a true "Old school gamer" I find it hard to believe he is bitching about something that has been more than obvious now about Nintendo for more than a decade. I'm still mad about them taking blood out of Mortal Kombat...
Not only is the OP wrong, why in the hell did this make the front page of Slashdot? All you need is Windows Media Center to stream to the 360, which to the best of my knowledge, works on every current M$ OS. (Not that I'm a M$ monkey) Also, why on earth would you want to make a 360 (With a whopping 120Gb HD) a stand-alone media PC? LOL Why is this person not getting flamed more for his stupidity making the front page of slashdot?
I always thought very similar along these lines. IMHO the whole "Green Revolution" is never going to outpace the capacity of our industrial industry to pollute. We can always make better technology, so it's obvious humanity is going to have to engineer something to clean what we put into the atmosphere and environment on the level that nature can't handle (Because obviously, it's not handling what we are putting into it right now). I guess the best way to describe it is beta test and certify the geo-engineering as "green" and good for the planet. A lot of the first geo-engineering to come out is actually probably one of the biggest benefactors to the current "green revolution", they just refuse to acknowledge that industry using cleaner technology like scrubbers or possibly carbon capture or better tech is what is mainly stopping the problem, not people swapping their power over to a "green plan" or buying hybrids to join the whole green fad marketing revolution.
If you really think about it, every science fiction forecast into the future (Akin to Jules Verne before the 20th century) sees something very similar to this happening. (Heh, unless you think Blade Runner where we just let the greenhouse effect run away) The whole current "Green" revolution just isn't a practical solution to the problem, it's obvious technology and engineering is going to have to step in and help clean things up.
I've played in competitive gaming since Quake 1 hit the internet. I've also played every big RTS and MMO game to hit the net. IMHO the best way to go for competition is FPS > RTS > MMO. Does anyone really want to sit around and WATCH a WoW Arena match? Unless you play wow and just like drueling over gear and seeing high numbers pop up I don't see how. I mean its just a bunch of tunes running around casting spells and spamming macros. In Asia they have almost made Starcraft a sport to watch just like soccer. Here in the US, I remember when Quake and Tribes matches were broadcast like huge sporting events. Huge prizes like Ferraris and thousands of dollars. You will not and will never get that level of excitement in watching a competition in MMO. It's the difference between watching baseball vs football or basketball. The plays and "Ooohs and Ahhs" that you get from watching a high level FPS is just amazing.
I think a lot of the unskilled players tend to sway toward MMOs because, honestly losing sucks so they just go to the easiest medium for them to succeed. I've never seen people have world wide reputations in the MMO community such as Thresh did for Quake or Agent911 for Starcraft. When you play against those players, it's not their gear, everyone knows they are good so they almost have an aura when you play against them unlike in MMOs on who had the right paper rock scissors combination. You know you have to be smarter and play better than them to beat them, and for this reason, MMOs will never have true super stars that emerge from higher skill based games like FPS or RTS.
I've worked from tier 3 to tier 1 networks, from dial up support to networking to information security, and I've dealt with India since the mid to late 90s, and I must say this Indian CEO couldn't be more right! What you have to do is take it with a grain of salt and look at it from the other perspective. Sure Indian IT workers are cheap and they are awesome at mastering the BORING aspects of IT. You know why? Because they RUN from ADVANCED IT problems like the PLAGUE! Usually those are advanced up to the upper tech echelons of IT companies to deal with (Usually based either out of the US or Europe). You know why this happens? The US and Europe have a good 2 to 3 generations of technology embedded into our society that India never will have. I've never seen a truly passionate Indian IT worker that learns IT because its what he calls fun. They do it for the money or to support their family or just out of necessity. That unfortunately is never going to drive them to be as skilled as a passionate worker who enjoys what he is doing and got into IT specifically for that reason. The same can be said about US IT workers, but generally speaking, that is what drives the reason of why US workers are more expensive than Indian workers. I don't really see the developed "Nerd" culture in India that the US or Europe has (And created since basically like the 40s...).
What the Indian CEO is saying is a dual edged sword. They do have the cheap workforce, but they do not have the generations of knowledge and experience embedded in their society that US and European workers have. It all comes down to the age old saying, you get what you pay for. =]
Thank you for sharing your opinion with the Office of the Governor. It will be forwarded to the appropriate staff member.
I seriously can't remember a presidential candidate lie so much to get in office since... well Jimmy Carter...
Double charge instead of giving a "demo". That just means hardly anyone is gonna buy the demos

What about a super star destroyer!? Oh hi verizon just violating more of my AUP!
I'm going straight to hell!
I think we need to instigate a little project mayhem, Tyler Durden style of course

Seriously.... the FBI would obviously be much more productive

and dont forget Bliz already announced last year a separate "Super secret" MMO they've been working on since last year when they started on Diablo 3.
