As long as they're messing around with this (pretty useless) stuff, why dont they make me an MFM controller that will allow me to store 400mb on an old seagate st-225? Also, why would i buy a -new- diskdrive when i could buy a cdr for (probably) a bit more and be able to exchange my discs with just about anyone? And wasnt one of the points of the linux router project to make use of older/obsolete hardware useful again? How does buying a new diskdrive fit into this? And i'm not even talking about driver support for these things. FreeSco (another router-on-a-floppy) is based on kernel 2.0.38...
My old
Exabyte 8200
uses standard 8mm video tapes which will fit 2.5GB. There's actually a sony 8mm mechanism in there very similar to what they used in camcorders...
GENEVA -- U.N. arbitrators ruled on Monday that a cybersquatter with addresses in Panama and Latvia must give up 43 domain names it had registered containing variations of the name of the Internet search service AltaVista Co.
...and if they dont want to give up their domain names, the U.N. is going to send in the blue helmets to stare them out?
ISPs and telecom companies will have to provide backdoors for government agencies.
I see at least 1 problem with that; ISPs and telecom companies dont make my operating system? How are they supposed to 'provide backdoors' that are not there? Sounds like a bunch of clueless people there in NZ... and even if there were these supposedly backdoors, what would be keeping all the 13337 kiwi script kiddies from using them? I think this is all a bit absurd...
They are identical machines, literally identical machines but the claim is that the Linux 6.2 Apache based machine only supports 20k-100k hits per day while the Windows 2000 IIS based machine (remember, same config) supports 500k-1M hits per day.
Looks like someone is confusing Redhat with Linux again... does anyone know about performance differences with Apache and different dists?
Sure, nanoprobes may be fun at first, but you won't laugh once they've assimilated your hamster into the borg rodental collective and rebuilt your pc to signal unimatrix 001...
How could anyone possibly throw away a computer? There are innumerable reasons to save computers. Some examples:
Send it to a third-world nation.
I know several Dutch government departments used to do this, old PC's were shipped off to Africa. Nowadays it's mostly destroyed... what a waste.
Install Linux on it and use it to (insert anything here) I am posting this through an abandoned (left at the trash) compaq prolinea 466 running as a linux router as we speak.
Use it for a doorstop. - Use it for a small table. I am using several empty cases like that.
And ofcourse, i'm still using old (486/P100) computers, they still run fine as long as you dont run newer games.
I'm rather unimpressed. It's twice the download size of Opera and a *LOT* slower. Too bad the Opera site seems to be down or i'd have put a link up for it...
"Hey, dude, what did you catch today?" "Let's see... i got astra and copernic, what did you get?" "Oh, just this thing that says 'Eschelon Space Project' on it..."
(knocking on MIR's door) "NSA, open up or we're coming in!"
I am sure someone who knows more about E&M than I do can come up with a better/cheaper solution
Mu-copper foil wallpaper!
What if i have songs by tricky, radiohead, portishead, sneaker pimps, etc shared? Am i going to be targeted with prozac ads?

The worst tech job has to be Being In Charge Of Feeding Pitr
Maybe they should try this?
You wouldn't believe what they are capable of putting cameras into (Clocks, Teddy Bears, Vases, etc.)
One word: sigmoidscopy.
Funny article! The idea of mascots arose a great question though -- why doesn't MS do mascots?
It was already taken by BSD.

The hard transfer limit for this user has been reached
The story's been up for 20 minutes and their server's been slashdotted already. Maybe their should add an extra potato or something...
Gnutella is a victim of its own popularity (doesn't scale) and what are we left with???
Ever heard of this thing called IRC? It was there before mostly everything else and it's still here...

Does this mean the coders were on LSD while making it?

never did I say that I used the same passwords, I however do realize that other people do.
Hey, my password is secret, that means it's safe, right?

I'm thinking that this will make laptop integration very difficult.
I'm thinking laptop desintegration/meltdown...

Well, Rubik can sue Cobalt.
Too bad Rubik never patented his cube, he hardly made any money from it...

Did anyone else think about radical RSI surgery when they saw this headline? (Either that or someone wanting to show off their clean-shaven palms...)
Try opening a business called "Microsoft Burgers" and see how long it lasts.
Would you buy a microsoft burger? It would probably be out of business before microsoft could even sue them...
