  1. Porting Software on Adobe Says PCs Are Preferred · · Score: 0

You have to wonder if this is linked to Apple moving to OS-X. I like OS-X as much as the next person however to port an appliction surely can't be a quick process to get a native application. Also I would expect that it would take a few versions to get the best performace.

With Windows it normally seems quicker and easier to move from one version to another as there is still binary compatibly and as such authors think they can get away with just adding things rather than having to rewrite. I'm not a fan of feature bloat but you can see why it is easier.

As a decision for Adobe I can see this as much as a no brainer for expanding market share. Do MAC's still have much market dominance in the DTP market as they use to?

  3. Hotmail Addresses on Building A Better Inbox (Updated) · · Score: 1

As much as I would like to applaud hotmail on doing something about spam I can't help but feel that its not going to work. I say this as in all my time fighting spam I've only actually seen a couple of spams actually come from hotmail.

More often than not I actually see Hotmail accounts as drop boxes. i.e. places bounces go or you reply to. Prehaps it might be better for Hotmail to restrict the incoming number of emails to an account to 100 a day.

Now that would hurt spammers more.

  4. Mailing lists on Building A Better Inbox (Updated) · · Score: 3, Interesting

One thing I hate about this sort of thing is that its quite dumb when it comes to mailing lists. More than once I have written an email to a mailing list I'm on and got back a messages along the lines of

"foo@bar.com is subscribed to our service. Please click on very long URL to let them recieve your messages"

Now this means that everyone who posts to that list has to do this for one particular user. Why should they? I'm sure that user has something to say at some point but I don't want/need to do it everytime I post to a list and someone new has joined who uses a similar service.

Why don't they whitelist the address of the mailing list? That would seem obvious to me. Even mailing lists that allow anyone to post normally have very high signal to noise ratios with the occasional spam.

As such telemarkets here can always work out what they are calling you on if they get your mobile number somehow. BTW we don't have our mobile numbers listed in directory enquiers (yet)

Prehaps Sony realises that ATM in terms of installed based and quality of the game library there isn't anything that can touch the PS2. In europe both the X-Box and Gamecube aren't anywhere near as popular. Why should Sony push new hardware onto the market to extend their lead now when there is no need to.

As other people have said the PS2 unit itself might start making money for sony as production costs fall. Sure I would love to have the PS3 but Sony know the market will wait. Also with any luck the extra time will mean that the new technology will be even more advanced.

I look forward to the day I can play a photorealistic games rendered in real time.
