We aren't that strict. It just what we have seen is somone saying their address is in the US and accessing the internet in Indonesia. We are sensible enough to see that if you are close to your home address then thats fine. We would normally assume that you were accessing the internet from work or similar.
We also do send emails as part of the signup process which helps us make a judgement
If you click the Windows 3.0 icons you get an error. Its so cool that she managed to emulate windows on her web page:)
Seriously though when the/.ing has died down I think it will really be worth a look even for a retro kick. She designed the solitare cards for God's sake. How many hours of my life has that accounted for?:)
I use it for our online billing and have had no problems. The main thing I head people complain about is that amount of fraud however the person recieving money has to take some resonsiblity to check that the other end is legit. We've learnt to some degree to check who's serious, who's not.
For example we always check the IP of the person who is ordering and compare it to their postal address. Now this cuts out about 75% of the fraud. Now on top of this people do use open proxies and these are harder to find. The basic rule is that if someone doesn't seem to check out we just refund the money with an explanation.
As far as I understand from the review. It doesn't do what its meant to do (DVD etc) very well and it can't display on a TV. No pardon me if I wrong but I would want something like this to show stuff on my TV. So basically I can spend £250 on this or £99 on a DVD player than can do the same thing? I know where I'm putting my money
RedHat is a business. Business want to make money. The community support this. So therefore we get rid of their revenue streams by getting what will be free in a week now and stopping potential subscribers?
Looking at UpMyStreet is cool to be able to find people who are nearby but I do have to wonder about my privacy. Least with UpMyStreet I choose to say where I live but I can't help wonder what would happen if they plant a cookie in your browser.
You then goto another site that pulls up that cookie via some method and they can geo target you. I can see why marketers might like it so they could target ads at your local area
I feel that the reason for human existance is to procreate and forward the race to an ultimate goal which no-one knows. Now this view might be slightly wrong but people all have a natural urge to procreate. Now if a robot did become self aware would they still have this need? I would think that robot would be much less willing to procreate as they would be able to at least have bits rebuilt. So does this mean they would just be one generation of machines or prehaps they would just build replacemnts. Something to think about...
You have to wonder what would happen with the fact that for some people they are based in one country and then connect via a VPN to the US. Now does mean that they are breaking the law as well?
The nice thing about small form factor is that there are really quiet and can go into the louge. For example I have one which I use to stream MP3's from my main PC (via WiFI) into my Hifi. Also if you are like most geeks and have lying around you can make a new PC for about $150. I would also recommend Mini ITX. Cool service and quick delivery
I wouldn't like to be without my Zaurus today. I decided to ditch the Sharp ROM and install openzaurus. It make a cool little PDA and added to a WiFi card open some intresting possibilities. Apart from the normal war walking/driving (if so look at kismet) I've used it to map out the range of my WiFI access point.
The reasoning behind this is that I want to setup a WLAN across the village I live in so that we then might be able to get some broandband. Now instead of having to lug a laptop round and hold it I can just walk out side with the Zaurus and get it to ping. Now I've got a rough idea of how far my access point will go and how to setup a Mesh
Oh and also it has Konquerer which is nice. My only problem is with the konsole app as I won't render pine nicely. Apart from that go buy one
I think this article does bring up a good point that people do tar Asia with the same brush in that you can just block them and have no problems. Its nice to see someone doing a decent job. For more fun on fighting spam see NANA
You have to wonder how long a company can support an operating system. You have to remember that NT was released in the the mid-90s so its 7+ years old. Microsoft is beginning to put NT4 to end of life and that the people who will really know the code may of left Microsoft or moved on.
I'm mean we all go on about how bad MS is but you can expect them to support everything forever can you?
What would be cool if we could get these density DVD on an 8cm mini-DVD. That way it would be a nice solution for portable MP3 player/high denisity hard disk. Just a clue for any product people reading:)
This sort of things annoys me and I'm going to tell you why:). Games such as GTA and the other C+C games in some countries had age restrictions placed on them. Now if a game is rated 18 I would expect it to be sold only to adults. If some underage tried to buy it then the shopkeeper should ask for proof of age.
Hiding something away doesn't make it go away. IMHO it actually makes it more exciting as its forbidden. Surel 99.9% realise that ITS JUST A GAME. Its not reality. I mean I don't play Burnout 2 and then go out and cause a car crash do I?
Or what about Tetris? Do you see me trying to control blocks that are falling from the sky?
Well he says that he can get 12-18Kb/s per second on GPRS. Well thats not bad but here in the UK its just not worth doing. We are billed on a per Kb cost. To download a 1MB can pay upto US$8. Also the latency sucks so SSH over GPRS isn't the most friendly expierence in the world.
However we have just had Three lauch which should provide real 3G services. Now that should be cool. I can't wait to have to make sure my hair is neat when I answer a video call
I think that it should be clearer that those 880 million are sent to *non-existant* addresses. The slashdot article makes it looks like that their infrastructure can't cope...
I use e16 on and off and must say that as a Window Manger it is really cool in terms of being able to skin it. I can skip from and Aqua skin to a BeOS skin in a few seconds. Good place to look is at freshmeat
Is there any news on an internation release or prehaps a DVD I could import? I've only heard about this on the grape vine but never had a change to even see a clip:(
