  1. Well that's all fine and dandy... on Stone Skipping the Scientific Way · · Score: 5, Interesting

that a human can skip one 38 times, but there is no mention on how many times the machine they built was able to do it. Just watch, this is gonna lead to some wacky robotics competition where teams try to construct different robotic launchers to see which can skip more times or longer distance.

  2. Kinda hard for calls that never touch the PSTN on Feds Want to Tap VoIP · · Score: 1

Not sure how other providers work, but Vonage does it this way. They have all their equipment, gateways, etc housed in several CLECs across the country. A call from the PSTN to a Vonage number goes to a CLEC containing a Vonage gateway, and from that point on all traffic goes through the public Internet. So if you wanted to tap one of these calls, you'd have to set up some equipment at the CLECs that Vonage uses.

However, you also have Vonage to Vonage calls, in which case they don't touch CLECs or the PSTN (the call never leaves the public Internet), so I don't have any idea how they'd go tapping those. They'd probably have to goto your ISP for something like that.

    Weight: 2.0oz
Battery: 16-hour continuous playback on internal Li Ion battery

  18. Different battle, same war on ATI & Nvidia Duke It Out In New Gaming War · · Score: 1

All hardware is never going to work with all software. It's simply too much to ask. But graphic card incompatibility is not new to the gaming world. I remember a few years ago when I had a Riva TNT board, and just about EVERYONE else had some 3dfx board. Some games only first came out with support for the 3dfx stuff, and then later released patches for riva stuff, or riva released a new driver that would work with the game. I'm fairly sure that was all basically software differences, not hardware like this is. But there can't be anything wrong with a little friendly competition. As long as the good new games are released and are able to support ALL of the major boards out there I'm happy. They don't all have to be supported as soon as they hit stores, but delayed support is better than no support.

  24. I've got one on Nomad Portable Jukebox MP3 Player Reviewed · · Score: 1

I use my NJB everytime I take a trip to one of my classes. At first I did have some problems with it, but I found ways to avoid every single problem I have encountered. First of all this thing does NOT have a very fast processor, just fast enough to do what it is supposed to do. If you have a mp3 playing and want to go running through all the other functions of the player, the NJB WILL slow down, WILL eat a lot of battery power, WILL crash sometimes. One major bug I have found is that when you try and play one mp3 just as another is ending the NJB will lockup a LOT. It must try and play 2 mp3s at once when you do this, the one you selected along with the next one in the queue. I simply don't do this. I make several playlists so I don't have to go around and change the mp3 every few minutes. One of the other posts here claims that the NJB's hd doesn't spin down. You can hear it spinning down, just by touching it you can tell whether the hd is spinning or not. This thing wasn't that great with the first firmware release, but now it supports FF and RV, this thing does everything I expected it to do now. With time you learn what to do and what not to do with the NJB. I'm still very happy I bought this thing.

  25. Universe was always there on Why Does The Universe Exist? · · Score: 1

Matter is essentially energy. Energy can't be destroyed or created, only converted from other forms of energy. Therefore, the universe always existed, or at least the energy that it is composed of. Most people think too linearly to grasp this concept. The universe will never be destroyed, it will just take on other forms. Not everything has a begining and an end. Hopefully all people will one day understand this.
