    A major, huge, insanely important reason that is never mentioned is that command line interfaces lead you to recipies.

    A user who is unfamiliar with the system can say, well, if I type these commands in order, then what I want to do is done:

    • cd ~/reports
    • ./run_reports
    • pico report


    This can be very easy to write down and remember - have you ever seen someone right down steps for a GUI? Very complicated.

    But for some reason the fringe selects Tesla as their hero, despite the fact that there are people who've done more important work in science and technology and gotten less credit.

    Mainly the supporters of Tesla are from the perpetual motion group.

    They show Tesla to their suckers, ahem, I mean investors as an example of a "unappreciated genius," and then say that they are the same thing.

    Basically like saying that Albert Einstein did poorly at math, and I do poorly at math, therefore I must be as smart as Einstein.

    Anyone fancy developing a free version of TurboTax and updating it each year as the tax laws change? Didn't think so.

    Actually, the IRS is always threatening to do just this.

    In fact, I could see the IRS converting the laws into some form of a markup language, that any program could read to get the current tax laws.

    As they get more attached to e-file, it'll become the way things are done, I believe. Perhaps through a web page.
