I actually am on a rather strict weightlifting diet and I understand that modern societies palettes are greatly biased towards salt/sugar. If I have more than 2 tablespoons of ice cream (non-fat frozen yogurt variety) I'll start to get a headache that will get worse if I eat more sugar.
Now there are times when a sugar bomb is good for your body (e.g. right after working out when you just burned all your immediate energy)
The thing is, a diet is a personal choice though. I've chosen to live a healthier life myself and if somebody doesn't want to make healthy choices, waving the ban-stick on foods is really just us legislating morality which is not the job of the g'ment.
This is why there's a difference. I have a degree in software engineering and that's what my job is. I started out above the average paygrade with a BS since I also worked a lot on some OSS that I could show my employer.
If you sit back, get a technical degree and expect a high starting salary reality is going to hurt. If you work your ass off, volunteer on something outside of school then yeah you can expect a good starting salary.
Believe it or not, most software engineers make good money, programmers on the other hand are hired by Walmart to be code monkeys (not joking, Walmart hires a lot of programmers).
How many single mothers? How many people from poor families? How many, say, don't have enough money to own a home? But don't mind me; continue bragging about your unrepresentative democracy.
How many politicians fit that description anywhere??? They might have been a single mother, poor or at one point didn't have enough money to own their own house but it sure as hell wasn't when they were running for office. You know why?? Because they wouldn't have enough time to run for office when they needed to spend that time earning money to make a better life for themselves.
(Side Note: we're not a Representative Democracy (e.g. Rome) but a Federal Constitutional Republic)
Well said! And after we throw the fat cats out of washington, we can rid the world once and for all of computers, hula hoops, and fax machines!
You're comparing computers, hula hoops and fax machines to people that hold power over others? Granted there are some here that under the sway of the tyrannical computer but we're all under the boot of the government!
I don't know what the terms are of the AT&T contract are (are there any informed folks out there willing to share?), but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bit in there that allows AT&T to amend certain parts without negating the whole thing. They also probably have something in there that limits the consumers' recourse to 3rd party arbitration, which isn't really 3rd party, since it is a 3rd party of AT&T's choosing. Plus, if the consumer terminates early, they'll be hit with a termination fee to cover at least part of the subsidy.
It's federal law that if a wireless phone company changes a contract on a customer then the customer has 30 days from the time of the change to get out of the contract without being stuck with an ETF. There's no contract that's above federal law so there's no way around letting those customers go sans fee. Much to AT&T's dismay I'm sure...
I think I would classify terrorism as any premeditated act against a state that has not declared war against the actionee or a non-military target with the intent to injure, maim, kill or destroy the target specifically for the intense emotional reaction that such an act would cause in anyone with a vested interest in the target.
I've been thinking about this for awhile and thought that my above solution was pretty good. Any ideas on how to make it a better description?
I don't know why this is considered censorship. They brought the case before a judge who made a legal decision which can be appealed (and is).
France did not ban the organization from the country (although it seems as though they wanted to). Had they done that then I could understand the censorship tag, but really... Being tried for a crime in this case does not mean censorship.
I used to live in Phoenix, Arizona. There's no feasible amount of tint or blocking the sunlight that's going to stop those poor bastards that lack AC from rolling the windows down in the summer. Keeping the windows might have hot air blowing in your face but it's stopping the air in your car from turning into an oven.
It can honestly get up to 150 degrees in a car with the windows rolled up very fast (15 minutes). I would see stories all the time about people that were new to the area leaving their dogs (or lord forbid their kids) in the car only to come out to find their loved one needing to go to the emergency room or dead.
Granted this is about CA but there are plenty of areas that get really hot in CA as well (some even more-so)
This is a great point. Although educating online banking users might not be the answer. Why don't banks have a 2-phased authorization type system (i.e. What you have and What you know)? I would gladly pay $5-$20 to have a PRNG pass-key (What I have) used in conjunction with a PIN (What I know) and have a more secure online banking system.
INGDirect uses a fairly good system by having a personalized phrase & picture displayed every time you log in while you click on the number images to input your PIN to bypass keyloggers. it's still relying on Joe Schmoe to actually pay attention to the picture and phrase every time they visit the site. Thus, it's still susceptible to social engineering. The above mentioned 2-phased is a better solution IMO.
The guy who did this is clearly intelligent. Although I got hit with this yesterday all I could think about what how clever it was. Too bad he's not using his powers for good (unless you consider taking down reddit good).
What do you think stops black hats from converting? Easy money? Life outside the "norm"?
BUT, it was mostly due to disease and malnutrition which were exacerbated from conflict. And honestly, as horrible as this is it's still better than other localized conflicts that happened before it (e.g. The starving of Ukraine by Russia in the 30's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor).
It's completely overwhelming when you think about how many people died in the 20th century. The bloodiest century we have ever known.
The information that you'd be interested in is in the last 3 paragraphs of the page...
Here's a quote:
"First, frequencies above about 1 kHz are strongly shadowed by the head. In other words, the ear nearest the sound receives a stronger signal than the ear on the opposite side of the head."
This is basically saying that a higher frequency waveform will be louder in the ear closest to it (i.e. not have the sound dampened by the head) and therefore we will perceive where the frequency is coming from easier (because it will be louder in the ear closer to it).
Whereas a lower frequency will be more likely to have an equal amplitude in both ears and thus would be more difficult to perceive the direction of.
Interestingly enough it's because until you reach puberty most vocal ranges are within the "2.5 kHz" range. Which is the most sensitive frequency for the human ear.
Thus humans have evolved to be very sensitive to a child's cry. I think it's when a child reaches 2 years old that they realize this and start to take advantage of it (imo).
Screaming when in fear alerts the tribe to danger and the higher pitch of their voices seems like it would travel better than a guttural manly tone..
Actually the higher pitch is better because it is less omnidirectional (i.e. you can tell where it's coming from) than a lower pitch. This is why police/fire/medical vehicles have high pitch sirens, so you can tell where they are coming from easier.
A lot of nuclear fuel came from decommissioned nuclear warheads, over the past couple of decades.
I'm unaware that the NRC approved nuclear plants to use weapons grade plutonium to generate power bypassing federal laws.
=/
Childbirth is so beautiful!!! /tear

Salt is one of the fundamentals of cooking. The others being fire, water and food.
If you cannot cook with salt, you literally will not be able to cook most dishes.
if there is to much salt in your food, it becomes unhealthy for you.
Which is true of... EVERYTHING ON THE PLANET.
not all kids are automatically predisposed to drug experimentation
Ah, I see you were home schooled.
And I can see that you were not.
Bury it in a hole in the desert.
Like Yucca Mountain?? I agree but unfortunately some others don't :(

New Hampshire!! New England's non-fail state (but apparently Mass is looking up now-a-days)
Unfortunately I didn't hear about the FSP until after I moved to NH but I'm glad we chose the same place :)

We probably wouldn't have had the government subsidized corn so much that it turned into our main source of food.
Recently we had a couple six hour long meetings
WHAT?!?!
A couple of six hour long meetings!?!? I'm pretty sure that would be the point when I started the revolution...

Somehow I doubt this Mr. Anonymous Boy. Money, meet mouth?
I'm so happy I wasn't the only one who noticed this.
