Fermi I was a Liquid-Metal Fast-Breeder reactor (LMFBR) that had part of its core melt down when a cooling pipe was obstructed by a metal plate that broke off.
Since the cooling medium was liquid sodium, which "reacts" with air or water, any breach of the reactor would likely be followed by a fire or explosion.
And since it was a fast-breeder it contained weapons-grade plutonium. Any explosion could be followed by low-level nuclear detonation.
How likely this is is subject to debate, so don't take it as a sure thing.
And we make our containment building pretty tough so there's no guarantee that the reactor would be breeched either.
But since Detroit was nearby (downwind?) hence the book and the song...
Proponents of nuclear power will tell you that only two rods out of its 100 melted. What they don't say is that several rods warped, making them hard(er) to remove (there are no control rods in a LMFBR so you moderate it by removing fuel rods) and these remaining fuel rods were in danger of melting as well.
It was a pretty close call.
Keep in mind that Chernobyl "only" lost some of its rods, nor did it have a nuclear detonation either. In any case, you wouldn't want to live next door:)
Agreed. You can have your choice of several polished ROMs (think Distributions), I use Cacko on my 860. It's a close cousin to the Sharp ROM with several improvements. They recently had a new version pushed out the door.
Or you can run pdaXrom, it runs a native version of X so almost any linux program can be cross-compiled for it. They are working on their latest RC (currently version 1.1.0 rc9).
Or you can try Open Zaurus, they just came out with version 3.5.3, many new features, very, very, slick. (I'll be trying it out later when I get the time).
The Z is the perfect little hacker tool, you can basically get anything that runs on a desktop on the Z (within reason).
There are a lot of programs orphaned by individuals that are no loger supported, but these are stand-alone programs and don't apply to the core development. I pretty much stick to what comes with the ROMs so these programs are of little interest to me.
The big problem is Sharp's lack of interest in selling outside of Asia. And they tend to be pricey.
Your point about governments is well taken, I won't dispute that. But I'll stand by my military comment (armies across the world, not just one country in particular).
If your bank doesn't have OFX support, then you're pretty much up a creek. QIF, Intuit's older data format, is pretty much dead now. I don't know if they still support it, but from what I've been told support is sunsetting rapidly.
Might be that Intuit is just depreciating the old format.
I can't wait, finally a date!
Anybody have the source code for Kelly LeBrock?

Either that, or call the help desk like I do.
They always seem to know what it is.
We're on a first name basis.
Can it do 183mph?

Maybe we can set a precident!
Like England's involvment in Ohio politics? That went over rather well...
Maybe we should just be quiet. For once.
Sorry about the late reply, No WWW for me during the weekends :)
The book sounds interesting, I'll see about picking up a copy.
Really, it's not like you're going to be holding an open-house event in your casket.
Anybody else have visions of the Greg Bear book "Blood Music" when you read this?

It's often the military that creates these crisises in the first place.
You lost me on the ashamed part.
Is that a wrench in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
I sense displeasure. Get back to me when you have mod points.
This idea of setting an arbitrarily low price, $100 in this case
I don't think so, the $100 price point was a Steve Ballmer idea. I think that he intended it being $100 and running Windows.

Thanks, I did some searching and for information on OFX right here at /.

No argument there, no insight on this end.
Thanks :)
I learned something though, no making jokes when someone's on a Half-Life jag. You'd of thought I had taken their crack away from them...
I don't use Quicken, so I wouldn't know, but is there any reason why the transactions can't be done via FOSS?
Mothers, lock up your daughters!
Not that they have anything to worry about.
Mark it as "Will not ship, must pick up."
However, local de-orbiting is still an option.
Well first off, I'm sure that your batteries don't hold a charge like they used to (which could be said of all of us).
.org, things have changed recently.
You're stuck with the small Z battery on the 5500 so you really notice it (I had a 5500 and battery life was a pain for me too).
There are battery extender projects that you can check out at http://www.zaurususergroup.org/

And finally, you could always carry a spare. I do, and my 860 never runs out.
And for very large values of two.

The good news is that south Arkansas will have some very nice oceanfront property.
