Why spec out a "comparable" Dell. Spec out the machine you need-- and if you're not gaming, it's not going to be more than 500 bucks without the screen. And you can buy whatever screen you want rather than be bound by Mac's imposition.
Who said we get wiser as we get older? When you spend thousands of dollars buying a computer which will clearly just browse the net and check mail (you don't appear to be a potential user of any mac exclusive features), based on your wife's preferences for lesser wires, you're just getting stupider.
This is their way of saying the IE 9 will still not comply with standards, but will do all this other stuff which once you code you page for, you're fucked. After I read the contents of internal emails within MS which were revealed in the court cases, I decided to take some slightly more "aggressive" techniques to promote Firefox (I don't trust chrome). The other day I was helping the IT guy with what to put in our new organization's computers before he imaged everything and deployed the images. I finished up that and then when ahead and deleted the IE icon from the desktop (made FF default) and from pinned items. I did the same to my parents' computer. I told them "The e is not the internet, the red one is." I also, whenever I get a chance, pass casual comments like "you're still using IE..heh" (social proof is a powerful thing). That's just some of the stuff that comes to mind.
I agree. My boss knows a lot about computers, but has been too lazy to switch the default to Bing (he doesn't use FF much because our clients run IE). I cringed when I saw him binging something the other day.
I don't quite get your point through all your agitation. Some problems with people continuing to deserve wealth once they are clinically dead
- richest person will be dead in a cylinder, and contributes nothing
- people go about screwing up the canisters of the preserved dead important guys (do I need to explain further)
- politics about revival, some will push for it, others against it
- former contributors to society who are worthless when they are revived enjoy a better life than regular citizens...

My answer- "yes". I would give anything to experience the world 200 years from now even if it means starting off with nothing. And if I'm that disappointed with "social issues" there's always the option that exists today to end it. Don't generalize.
The future will likely disallow this kind of inheritance. The main problem with cryogenics right now is that it is not possible to undo the damage caused by the cryogenic procedure. People who have invested in companies like Alcor have done so in the belief that a solution will soon be available. As soon as that happens the world will see a new set of laws that take care of all these loopholes. I would image that they will make sure you don't wake up with an advantage you do not deserve x years into the future. It will be more about people wanting to experience the future than benefiting from it
Sure, they sell stuff worth millions. But are they standards compliant? That site looks pathetic in Firefox.
Considering the "elite" audience they are trying to attract, they could be directly turning away around 50% of their visitors.
I would not like to put my millions on a site like this...
Can any beta tester verify whether around 1.8Mbps will be enough? I mean, if I can't stream real time, can I at least pause and then resume after it buffers (like youtube)?
Also, apologies if it's been asked before, but is this service gonna work for all countries? What about the ads then.. don't they need to be region specific?
Having wireless work out of the box without having to connect an ethernet cable is a make or break feature for many many people, especially new Linux converts.
I have an XPS 1530, 1 yr old with Broadcom wireless. 9.04 used to work perfectly, 9.10 is broken. Need to connect that cable and search repeatedly for hardware drivers (that drivers module seriously SUCKS!!).
If Linux is made by so many "smart" people why can't they realize that when they break something so basic, they will lose many users.
I can also attest to seeing several screen flashes. WTF happened to having a "smooth" boot experience?
The only thing improvement in 9.10 appears to be boot speed. Which is still NOT 10 seconds? What the fuck. This release from my point of view, is garbage.
There needs to be a way to moderate the moderators...

thanks for taking the time to check

Looks like you have other issues, because firefox behaves well with memory nowadays. In fact it's been found to be one of the more efficient ones.
Don't know about you, but I have a bunch of additional search engines and FF remembers the one I was using when I closed it last.

1. everyone seems to be discussing "Windows" solutions? wtf 2. no one actually addressed the OP's request for hardware?
There's a problem with your calculations - you forget that we won't need to sweep everything- Only the affected areas.
Either a poll or ask slashdot. I second this idea.

from the posts, I can't find anyone who actually installed it. So how is it?
Yes.
And when was "Chrome 9" released?

Now we can have ads beamed directly to our retinas.
I am not allowed to. Amazing that posts with blatantly incorrect information get modded 5 just because they appear to be written well.
