He asked for software you could own. That software you may simply gain a license to use at no charge. Most all of the software that the FSF has is restricted by the GPL, so you have to abide by that license. If you were to own software, such as something you wrote yourself or for which you purchased the copyright, you could do whatever you wanted with it.
There are other factors, you know. Does this creature have Monk levels? That could speed them up. What about armor? Heavy armor is going to slow them down.
This link shows without a doubt that this paint violates FCC code (emphasis mine):
The manufacture, importation, sale or offer for sale, including advertising, of devices designed to block or jam wireless transmissions is prohibited. 47 U.S.C. Section 302a(b). Parties in violation of these provisions may be subject to the penalties set out in 47 U.S.C. Sections 501-510. Fines for a first offense can range as high as $11,000 for each violation or imprisonment for up to one year, and the device used may also be seized and forfeited to the U.S. government.
It's really not as bad as all that, according to this: "The lifetime of the latest generation of PDPs is estimated at 60,000 hours to half life when displaying video. Half life is the point where the picture has degraded to half of its original brightness, which is considered the end of the functional life of the display. So if you use it at an average of 2-1/2 hours a day, the PDP will last approximately 65 years." - Wikipedia
Yes, and then they can cry about piracy causing a slump in CD sales and call for even more draconian "reforms." Copyrights were provided for in the Constitution as a neccesary evil, only to "promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts." When the copyright laws stifle rather than promote that progress, then they need to be repealed.
I don't understand this comment. Do you mean that there are places where people don't have credit cards? How do you pay for the gasoline for your SUVs?
I think that good cross-platform apps come with Apple re-releasing Yellow Box for Windows (probably integrated into a new release of QuickTime, so that Cocoa apps for Windows will simply state "Requires QuickTime 8" or some such thing).
I'm crossing my fingers, but I'm not holding my breath.
I doubt that any such lockout would be at the kernel level anyway, since Mac OS X uses an open source kernel. In all likelyhood, booting a (theoretical) DRM-enabled Mac OS X on a non-Apple box would load the kernel, then bomb trying to run the GUI. That's where they'd put their checks. It would be ironic, though, if they allowed enough of it to run to display a pretty advert. for a "genuine" Macintosh. Hehehe
My ring finger falls naturally on the right mouse button, with my middle finger on the scroll wheel. I'd bet you 100 dollars that, at least, 95% of users with mice that have scroll wheels operate them in a similar manner.
That is not how my hand sits naturally on my mouse. I tried that and it feels really weird. My index finger sits on my primary button, my middle finger sits on my secondary button, and my ring and pinky fingers both sit on the right edge of the mouse, with my thumb on the left edge. To operate the scroll wheel, I use my index finger.
We don't cruelly humiliate people learning how to drive.
We did in my Driver's Ed. class. We mercilessly ridiculed idiots that couldn't "get it." Oh, of course, when I say "we" I mean the other guys in class, not me.:)

Hey, what the hell is this? I come to Slashdot for America-centric political nonsense. I don't want any foreign political nonsense. ;)
Iocaine powder. I'd bet my life on it.

KIRK: "How long to re-fit?"
SCOTTY: "Eight weeks. But you don't have eight weeks, so I'll do it for you in two."
KIRK: "Do you always multiply your repair estimates by a factor of four?"
SCOTTY: "How else to maintain my reputation as a miracle worker?"
KIRK: "Your reputation is safe with me."
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
So buy one from a poor kid next year. I'm sure they'd rather have money for food than a laptop.
What? I was told that video killed the radio star!
Buy a Mac, of course. Duh.
I hope they grow out of that before they get in the driver's seat...

Excuse me, but are you messing with Texas? That's not a good idea.
Wait, would we still be able to eat 'em?
I wonder how many Ostriches have croaked from eating that stuff...
What do you mean "seem?" ;)
And then Apple comes out with a "laptop" model that is sexier then everything else and makes your friends jealous that you could afford it?

I thought you gave up talking about code...
No soup for you!

Just like the Optimus Keyboard! That would be sweet, huh?
