What really annoys me are people who spout off about lack of apt-get, when they fail to notice urpmi! It does everything apt-get does, albeit a bit clumsier. Fighting the War on the War on Drugs.
You know, I was just thinking about buying a Cube--not just because of the hardware, but OSX looks quite slick. I'm not about to change my mind, but it saddens me that Apple, in a move to protect a good idea, is going too far. I really wish Jobs and co. had a dose of sanity to go with the LSD-augmented genius.
As far as I know, it was not the implementation but rather the specification that was used. Microsoft deliberatly used an empty field designated in the specs to break compatibility. Fighting the War on the War on Drugs.
Actually Ghost In The Shell did it for me, but that's 'coz I'm a relative newcomer to the scene. Akira was much more provocative in every sense of the word. Fighting the War on the War on Drugs.
Personally, I think lawyers who participate in that sort of intimidation should be disciplined by the Bar or the courts. It's not much better than robbing a bank w/ a toy gun.
Your analogy is especially appropriate, and my first thought on reading it was: Lawyers are nothing BUT robbers, these days, using the law as their sidearms. That the law is used not as a method of protecting people but rather a means to attack others to gain their assets is a sign that we're headed for the shitter.:(
Woohoo! great question! You should also point people to SmokeDot. There is a great article there written by TheDude about how Mary Jane was criminalized; read both part 1 and part 2.
Perhaps you're a representative of the reason why Slashdot is held to suck: because you assume that it's your site and that you have some control over its content.
It was and is Rob's site, for stuff he thinks is cool. Get over the fact that you don't control your only source of information, and go read the NY Times or something. Geez.
OK, y'all, this is an underlining reason why capitalism sucks ass. These people, like Microsoft, are out to make money, not make quality chips or quality software. If they can find a way to screw the customer to save make a buck, bet your sweet patootie, they will.
With the advent of personal computing and the ability of anyone to make virtually free copies of any piece of information the supply of any piece of information will always match the demand.
Amen! Digital information is a commodity, end of story. People need to understand that this is a property of the new medium which we've found: the Internet. The corporations are the people who would profit from others' (or their own) misunderstanding of this. Nobody ever profited from twisting the laws of supply and demand in the physical world, unless they turned the quick buck and dumped ship. With infinite supply, a new business model needs to be found, instead of claiming that the existing architechture is sufficient. IP touches on this especially in the software and entertainment industries--an author's work is his own, yes, but once released into the new medium, it will obey those laws, not the author's idea of what should happen.
OK, so I spend 20 minutes downloading the thing with wget, and boot into 'doze (98) to test this puppy out. No install worries, no nothing. But when I went to play the game, I felt like I was playing Quake on a 486! My system specs are as follows: Celeron 333MHz, 64M SDRAM, and an 8M Matrox Productiva with a 3dfx Voodoo. Since when is that a 486?
Here's my gripe: that the cheap prices for fast hardware allow programmers to get so lazy that they can just up system requirements and forget about it. Although, from the reviews I've seen thus far, I shouldn't get too worked up, as there's not much to get worked up about. Still, the point remains.
...but I cannot be there 24 hours a day, and anti-Christian propaganda is everywhere and insidious.
What you say may be true, but there's a bit of a difference between "anti-Christian propaganda" and simple fiction. Moreover, the parent who won't teach his children to choose wisely for themselves is no Christian parent; God purportedly gave us all the free will to accept or deny Him, and to countermand that merely stunts your offspring's mental health as well as countermands God's will. God didn't make us to follow blindly.
At the University of Maryland Baltimore County, we have Linux (RH6.0 with tweaks) running in all of our PC labs. We used to have an official distribution, but that sorta ran aground.

No, agnostics (like myself) do not pretend to know one way or another.
my mom told me not to look directly at the sun.
So once, when I was six, I did.
Heh. That's like using hex numbers when you're working with base 10 or something. "Err, (1 + 2) * C..."
:)
What's wrong with either using OS10 or being unashamed to pronounce it "X"? At least in those cases it'd be consistent
If they're going to put an "X" in there, I'm calling it OS "X", not OS "ten"!
Pro'ly someone forgot to throw a switch. Never attribute to malice what can easily be explained by stupidity. Next uninteresting story...

Heh. You act as if this is the only good AIM client because it's made by AOL. My grandma could use TiK just as easily.
5.2 shipped with more holes than a breadboard, dude.
There's a solution to this. It's called freshmeat.
Actually, we don't announce submissions that don't have any code available yet. Which appindex are you talking about?

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!
Good one, BT. Unfortunately, April Fool's Day was a few months ago.
My personal fave:
PS. I hate whoever though up the year 1970 - couldn't they have gotten a leap-year instead? I also hate Gregorius, pope or no. I'm grumpy.
There's no way they can enforce their 'patent' anyway, because of the GPL. This is a non-issue.

I think the author has failed to acknowledge the existence of CowBot!
