  1. 1386 Violation on UC Berkeley Cleaning up its Security Act · · Score: 1

Most of the comments about this article are FUD, UCB is bound by the same Senate Bill 1386 as all the rest of the UC campuses.

Which means that if a security breach exposes personal or confidential information it must be reported to the state and any individual it affects, creating a whole legal mess. All UC system administrators (myself one of them) take security very seriously and do everything we can to avoid a 1386 incident. Working at a large educational institution and being a constant target of spam and cracking groups is trying, but I can tell you that UC has a very tough stance on securing our systems.

  5. Lack of Music in Multiplayer on Review: Burnout - Revenge · · Score: 1

I love the Burnout series, especially with Takedown and Revenge's awesome soundtracks (with the Xbox version ripping your own music is a huge plus), but the one pet peeve I've had about them is the lack of music in multiplayer mode. The game is so much more fun when you have a pulse-pounding high energy track to go along with the speed and intensity that playing two player just feels kinda, well dull.

Is this a limit of the X-Box/PS2 hardware or what? I know it's rendering two sceens, but could it really be that much strain on the hardware to play a soundtrack?

Other than that the game is amazing and one of my favourites, and the previous Revenge title is only 20$ new, so if you don't have it already pick it up.

My one gripe is with the gmail integration, when you open a message it looks a bit kludgy, and from there if you try and the inbox link at the top you get a "grrr! you have a popup blocker" message. 13. Re:Whats the difference between burnout 1,2,3? on Review: Burnout 3 - Takedown · · Score: 2, Informative

There are a couple differences between Burnout 2 and 3. The main one that stuck out for me was the use of the "boost", as you have to fill up your bar entirely before you can even use it. Burnout 3 on the otherhand allows you to use it at anytime, no matter how full the bar is.

The addition of impact time after a crash makes the game play drastically different. 3's Crash Mode in general, making you plan out your routes based on the numerous powerups and crash-breakers, giving you more control over how you'll cause mayhem. With 2 you just launch your car and watch everything unfold, 3 is a lot more interactive in this respect.

Finally, there won't be a Burnout 3 released for the Gamecube. I did some heavy research into this a couple months ago after I first played it for the X-box, and was disappointed to learn EA does not have any plans on releasing it for the cube.

I really wish there was a simpler way to use cd drives with a stock GNU/Linux kernel instead of hunting down supermount patches or strange hacks like Transgaming tries. It's a major issue that that's is holding back as a desktop OS.
