Yeh USA uses Imperial, wierd I know, I live in Old Blighty and us and the rest of the EU (which may already be) are all going metric. I don't think somehow that we are going to go back to Imperial (which we invented) to suit the USians.
Saying this point, I don't see how it matters, It aint tied to how much food costs (thats dependant on the price of fuel to transport/make and employment of those people who are making/transporting). Nor does it effect quality and while the difference in measuring has caused big things to go wrong, this needn't be the case, its just human error, which can happen without using different measuring systems.
PS. Im young enough to have been taught metric at school and never used anything else, but I would not call the imperial system anti-scientific, its just slightly wierd, any scientist working in imperial should be capable of realising that 12in = 1yard etc, its not the rocket science/brain surgery/micro-biology that they are paid to do!
The point is, its ok for him to say, Van Hollen is crap because XYZ because its about Van Hollen! but if the site is "Look im great here is what i will do" is not because it is not about Van Hollen, which makes it cybersquating in my view. Your getting all political, its not a political issue!
Very true, They are getting a bit tiresome. however that is the job of the Slashdot Editors and on this case, I don't believe this falls into that category, or at least there are way more blatant ones anyway.
The sites are about Van Hollen, so yeh, however if he hypes himself too much then it does become cyber squating, as he is using the domain name to mislead people alone.
I don't think its really necessary to save Tom's bandwidth, Tom is a massive site, and I'm sure they are quite used to being slashdotted.
You saving him bandwidth can only stop people going to the website and seeing thier adverts (which is how they pay the bills). Despite what you may or may not think about banners etc, you are not helping them at all, you are hurting them.
I thought GNOME was on the up! Sun picked it, Debian always had it, RedHat still does desktop, and on there, GNOME is still going to be the default, So what if there is a free comminity product now too in the shape of Fedora, RedHat commercialise it.
As for SUSE, Novell bought them and Ximian, and while they don't seem to have any intention of letting KDE slip, you don't have that many amazing programmers and get Rid of GNOME. Isn't that kindof the 3 biggest Distro's covered as being DE neutral or very GNOME friendly?
you might try http://gentoo.vidalinux.com/ It'll get you a desktop gentoo based os installed quickly, and coz gentoo is always updating it will very quickly become a pure gentoo system. I'm definetely more happy with my current install than i ever have been with any other distro (it did still take some work after the install however, but it's more tweaking rather than needed to get it running stuff)
Was built on Cromwell (Linux Kernel), This is a full OS which they made and they are hyping like nothing else, apparently its going to let them do loads of cool stuff that would be very difficult with linux . And this made the front of Slashdot because it has a onboard OS (Oh X-Ecuter have one with 3.0 (just released), Smart-XX also do. and Xenium (the one which started it) used to have an Open Source OS (and have just moved to closed source)
I have a Centrino 1.4 and ATI 9200 Mobility in my Acer Notebook, which is the absolute top (ATI) GFX card with OSS DRI/GLX drivers, It plays Doom3 on low quality but it hardly ever gets choppy and is still scary as hell.
Higher ones can only do 2D acceleration, which is OK if you reboot to Windows to play games (actually I still do, as I hook it upto a monitor and use Xinerama), Anyone know about MergedFB on Gentoo?
...Don't get that if I have to put in my credit card details before seeing the product, I aint gonna be putting in my credit card details. Doesn't matter if they promise to refund it at a later date.
True to a degree, If it boots Windows (and the explorer interface) its instantly recognisable as a "Computer", If like this it boots some wierd UI then it isn't, however this isn't prolly running services etc and *should* be locked down well / auto updated. The point is the UI is as important the the shape of the box to the user deciding if its a computer.
So now we too can have a cheap rip-off of osx! Seriously with all this new modularisation is there any chance of having GLX on a Xinerama two screen setup?
does all of this, I'm currently using an XBox client with a server (right next to it) that will soon be in the loft. The documentation says that it should be usable over WIFI
I don't know if discrimination against men in job applications is the answer
Yeh nothing like relying on a non-level playing field. Fact is the odds are that MIT probably already decided that a non-level playing field is the answer by hiring her for the role.
Disclaimer:
She may have been the best candidate but as most engineers are are men, it does probably mean that the best for the job will probably be male, this just a matter of numbers. not that Iam in any way, shape or form saying that she probably isn't the best because she's female. if you understand what im saying. If suddenly in 2006 50% of engineers graduating are females then they should take roughly 50% of the jobs. Heck my little sis is an engineer (though of the bricks and steel type).
yeh but in effect you paid your processor for his teaching time, does it not piss you off that you have to pay him again! $40 is outrageous, it'd only take 2 people for him to make a profit.
...An article in the times that was basically the top 10 things that can kill us all, I can't remember what number it got to but it was on there. anybody know if these things are safer now, or what makes them so dangerous?

and they should pull this off, if they were not as good as they are they would probably lose readers.

To create a small mp3 player that grabbed onto a glasses arm, rather than a whole pair of glasses.

The 'Mark 15, Mod 0' nuclear bomb was jettisoned into the Atlantic Ocean off Savannah after a B-47 bomber and an F-86 fighter collided in mid-air.
Would that not be before? there prolly would not have been anyone there to jettison the nuke after the crash.
