  1. get a 9200 on ATi Drivers for Linux that Work? · · Score: 1

A 9200 Mobility came in my Acer Aspire 2100 (i think thats the model) and is pretty shit hot. It will even play Doom3, although it is just on the border of reasonable. 9200 was the last version with OSS 3D acceleration.

Having said all of this I can't actually vouch for the 3D performance in Linux, I run Xinerama and 3D + Dual Screen don't work together (Infact Xinerama, pretty much is a PITA full stop so picky to set up etc), I boot to XP for gaming, which is the only option for faster cards than the 9200 anyway.

Me personally I'm building a dedicated Games PC.

  7. The way to save the net on Former CIA Head Calls for Limiting Access to the Internet · · Score: 1

In the terms of service, it says something like "any host causing anoyance to others may have its internet access suspended or severely limited".

When a machine is seen to be sending spam or being a zombie, it's net access is either limited to only port 80, and every http access is sent to an ISP page explaining why thier net access has been revoced.

It should give them access to tools to un-mess up thier machine. the user can then press a button which will then make port 80 requests work normally again, and monitor attempted traffic going to other ports. if it's still a zombie/spammer the access is revoked again.

This will cost money, but it'll save money also because bandwidth costs will be saved both at that isp and others.

The data that is stored for determining if it is a zombie/spammer should be impossible to access (if possible) or very time limited so law enforcement can't use it for something it wasn't there for to keep civil liberties nice.

  9. OK... Gonna make myself majorly unpopular on AOL Releases Netscape Beta, Based on Firefox · · Score: 4, Insightful

but the Moz/FF stronghold is geeks, we need to get it on non-geek platforms. I've told my dad, my friends, everyone to switch to FF, but I always say "if you have problems on such and such a site go back to IE for that one alone". not being able to use the site which is your bank, or do your weekly competition with the Times (this is my Dad) is not acceptable to the end user. Get them on FF as much as possible, but if its all or nothing with them, you'll prob get nothing.

For this reason I do broadly support the IE switching option, providing its like a button "Switch To IE" that would always render that (page/domain) in IE. Similar to the way "Allow Poppups works. This would solve the major problem of "I use IE because I often visit XYZ and FF doesn't support it".

Saying that a universal "Switch to IE rendering" option is going to be more damaging than helpful to FF.
