Even a person with stereoscope vision might not be able to tell the difference. Human depth perception works best on close range, with objects far away the difference between the 2 images will be too small.
Mono is IIRC built on top of the ECMA standards that MS put in to the ECMA standards body. They can't take it back. Also, Mono is GPL and isn't using any of MS code - just the specs.
Most OSes you see around you are done in c, very few uses something else BeOS springs to mind with it's c++ API, but even they had some c style API calls.
Sure lots of apps uses c++, java et al. but prbably most apps out there are still done in c.
Nothing bad about the rest but there're tons of legacy apps out there done in c that needs to be supported.
IMHO I would say alpha since features added. when they stop add features and start sorting out the bugs they already had I would call it beta.
mind you, still a good browser - just wish there was less features and more bugfixes - but then again - it's the features that are fun to implement;-)
As with the applications, these hobbyists put a large amount of time into programming glitz and glamour features into the kernel, and neglect important functions such as scalable SMP support, efficient VM managment, clean TCP/IP communications, and such. These important functions end up being "fixed" by other hobbyist programmers whose fixes usually end up making systems less stable.
This part looks like fair bit of trolling IMHO. True, one need to be able to discuss Linux weaknesses in a objective and calm manner but this is trolling...
just my 0.02
You're taking about the DOS inteface up to BC3.1?
That was wicked, my first IDE...
HOwever, using Delphi now for a project and it got a editor from hell (rest of Delphi OK though).
Can't make it indent properly! home key takes cursor to the first pos of row rather than b4 first char on row, etc, etc. Sorry, just have got very used to VC++ editor.
Would be wonderful to see borlands c++ compiler on Linux though, with or without IDE. They got one of the best and most conforming c++ compiler around today... I definetly would pay for a licence!
Yes unfortunatelly true. One could though - if eager enough - just make one self his own 'dummy' PCI card containing a circuit which could be tracked. Hopefully the thieves wouldn't notice that xtra card. mind you, not sure how complicated the PCI bus is compared to ISA (which I used to do stuff for - gone more towards software now than hardware)
Probably, even if an OS with a round robinkind-of-fashion sheduler might make the forground app feel a bit slow. Mind you the little I tried QNX I never noticed any lagginess. GO for it and try, I gonna play a bit with it for a laugh(just burnt myself a copy;-)
yeah, but MS shut down Netscapes income from the browser by starting to give ie away for free. Netscape *did* make a fair amount of money of their browsers on corporate sales.
"QNX's main plus point is reliability, right? This is what makes it such a good server OS."
It's not a server OS really, it's a RTOS, much used for embedded stuff
Well, couldn't this be a first step towards a Grand Unified Theory of how the universe works? IIRC, it is the connection between gravitation and quantum effects that is missing, so this look spretty spiffing in my eyes!:-)
Well, we know that the other giant planets we've found in other solar systems have been up to (and more) 40 times as big as Jupiter, IIRC, and they haven't ignited either. So Jupiter seems to be quite far from a star

How would they be able to 'close' Mono???

maybe .GNOME ;-)

well win2K was pretty much a rewrite rather than building on the NT kernel
BillG used to write code, and good code as well. Made a BASIC interpreter in under 4K. Was it any good? see for yourself
yes, but isn't that a non-commercial licence? i.e. Oracle can't just order a bunch of cd, using them with their dbms
Ah, you mean Trabant! wicked little car...
MS seems to be quite happy about mono, they even got an interview with Miguel on msdn regarding mono..
You're joking, right?
Well, if you're not, just a little hint - think floppies, not ISOs..
Ah, that could be handy to know. Thanks!
Well, Intel got the actual blueprint for the CPU. THe CPU might also have some 'undocumented features' that only Intel knows about...

I doubt there's anywhere in the BSD licence that states that the code in question has to run on *BSD system as well.... ;-)

Wasn't that Intel with PIII(?). They had a unique ID in their CPU, which I believe they deactivated after public pressure

Am I off-base here?
yepp, they aiming at *developers* developing embedded stuff.

I think you'll find that TCP/IP is a tad bit older than that....
