I always wondered, does anyone in the IT industry really lend any credance to these "journalists" like O'Gara, Didiot, Pretenderle ?
They have these lovely websites, full of nice sories, but does anoyone make any descions based on these guys ? I compare this to the scamdicappers in the newspapers with their "Lock of the week" picks.
If you want to install Gentoo, you MUST invest the time to learn how everything works
As an "experienced newbie" I disagree with that statement. If you have a basic knowledge of computers, and can read the VERY good install guide on the homepage, you too can install gentoo from stage 3. If, on the other hand, you want to understand and run gentoo, well, that takes alot of work. Takes me about a day to get it running, and about 2 -3 hours to mangle it enough that I want to try again:-).
there is no better way to learn than to destroy what you have spent a day building .
Sounds complicated but they just pull marrow (stem cells) from your hip like a blood donation.
Not very complicated, but it IS very painful to the donor. BTW, lost in all the religous zealotry, this woman had a lower back/hip/pelvis injury, Christpoher Reeve had a severed cord high in his neck. Two completely different senarios. Methinks the Superman referance was used to get some press for the scientists.
Perhaps he needs to find someone emotionally unattached to the problem, yet able to communicate effectively, and let that person filter communications for him. I know that this benefits me on occasion.
He prevously stated that his father had friends in the medical field. That is what you need, someone who knows you, knows what is wrong with you, and can go with you, and ask the questions that you forget, remember the answers that you don't. I read somewhere that patients forget more than 90% of discharge instructions. This is a big problem of treatment. Patients for whatever reason do not follow up with discharge planning.
He's been to several docs and none have found anything significant, but he's obviously in a bad condition.
I think the general consensus among medical professionals on the last go round, is he needs a SPECIALIST, not an internest, not an ER doctor. He needs to go to someone with a plan, an Infectious Disease fellow who deals waith these kinds of illnesses. He apparently is near some world class medical institutions, I am not sure why he is not utilizing them.
Great referance, for those non medical types, the med school saying is something like "When you hear hooves, think horses, don't think zebras". In other words, think of the obvious first.
Also great point about teaching hospitals, I seem to be in mod point drought, so I can't help you out here.
he needs emergency intervention from the specialist RIGHT NOW
Ditto, get thee to an ID (Infectious Disease Fellow) Right now. I know many in the NY area, but if your dad "is in the medical community" find someone. This type of infection needs to be treated agressively.
Tampering with a drug in this way would result the removal of your pharmacy license in a NY second
I realize this, what I meant was this will not prevent this type of fraud, which is far more prevalent I believe. I see a story every couple of months where a fraudulent pharmacist dilutes or substitutes drugs. I should have made it clearer.
So I can save 20 to 50 cents on my perscription by choosing not to purchase the RFID label? 5 or 6 perscription you woule have saved enough get a cheap bottle of wine.
The 20 -50 cents will still be passed on to you, but the labels will be on the bulk bottles the pharmacy recieves. This will still not prevent the pharmacist from "diluting" the drug, which often happens with very expensive drugs, like chemotherapy agents, and HIV drugs. But it is a good start.
take it you've seen for yourself or are you just repeating what the good lord Geedubya told you?
i think he read it in that ultra right wing publication called AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
see this link for some facts: Here
Sorry to get in the way of your W bashing
I'm shocked. You mean a journalist would listen to someone who has an axe to grind, not check simple facts, and use forged documents to support its claim.? Someone call Mike Wallace. He needs to do a story on this !!
And Stewart drooled all over him and didn't bother to ask any significant questions? Yeah, good job there.
Here's where I sorta agree. Jon Stewart wants to be taken seriously, but when asked why he dosen't ask tough questions, he hides behind the "we're a comedy show" statement. And when he was prodded by the conservative guy, he resorted to personal attacks. He has a great show, and I watch him, but I also understand he is a shill for the Democratic Party, and I am okay with that.

Do you and I *really* need a service where our annoying friends can spam us all day long asking us where to find the best pastrami on rye in town?
They already have this service: Craigs List Great way to waste time. If you really want to be afraid, look in the psych forums.
Personally, I don't have a problem with that, as long as there is no issue with individuals taking pictures of the police. When the police or government tries to mug the protestors of their cameras or images, I object strongly.
Absolutley agree with you. Both side need to follow the law. If the police step over that line, like they may have done here in NYC with some bike protests, they should be prosocuted as well. I am all for punishing the police who break the law.
Ten years in the ER, I saw just as many bad cops, as bad criminals.
The Nuremberg Code (available here [umich.edu]) states that the voluntary consent of the human subject is "absolutely essential". The disregard some scientists have for this, purely in the name of science, disturbs me greatly.
I work in research now also, we had to take a full day seminar on ethics in research, it is was called
Good Clinical Practice an FDA course. Some of the stuff people have done in the name of "science" are pretty scary.
No it's not. Taking photographs of demonstrators is an intimidation tactic.
Exactly how is photographing someone in public, at a public demonstration intimidation ? Don't the demonstrators also photgraph the police ?
You have the right to assemble and be heard. The police have the right to enforce the law. I dont see how photographing you in a public place violates your rights, or intimidates you.
Truly, if one of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had brought Dan Rather or his producer a set of documents looking exactly like this but supposedly from the "personal files" of one of Kerry's Vietnam commanders, claiming that Kerry did not deserve one of his medals, does anybody truly believe CBS would have run that story without a great deal more fact checking and certainty than they required here?
I posted, so I cannot mod. But this statement is in need of +1 insightful tag. This goes to the heart of the matter. I, like you, do not believe that Rather "knew" the documents were false. But, clearly there were questions about this Burkett fellow. Two experts asked by CBS warned them the documents were fishy. They ignored these warnings and went with the story. A story they have been pursuing for four years, still with no proof. Now they try and play the victim, "We were decieved" and not "We decieved the public" Hubris Maximus, as my old math teacher used to say.
Otherwise, things like Fox News couldnt exist.
Is Fox News biased ? Probably. I have many conservative friends. Tell them that Fox News has a right leaning slant and they say "Duh !, Why do you think I watch/listen" Now go to a reader of the NY Times, Wash. Post CBS/ABC/NBC and tell them they have a left leaning bias, and they are shocked !. How many Slashdot posts like "Bush is a Monkey" have you seen modded as "+5 insightful". Mention "Swift boat" and get -5 troll. It is the way it is. Everyone has a bias. Accept it and move on.
Caldera (now called "the SCO Group") is going to sue IBM because they worked with Caldera on Linux, so that when Monterey stalled IBM and Caldera were able to move on.
This seemed fairly obvious to me also, even as a non-tech, slighly geeked out nurse. How could a journalist actually print something this absurd, and ever be considered credible again ?
And since this matter is settled, you must drop your countersuit."
There is absolutley no chance of this happening. Basically IBM is saying that SCO interfered with IBM's buisness by slandering it all over the media. There is so much more to the countersuit, but that is it in a nutshell. IBM will never withdraw this suit. Read some of the really good coverage on Groklaw. PJ's analysis is on mark, although the comments section gets a little wild, sorta like Slashdot:-)
There are still a few hundred million lines of AIX that haven't been compared.
This has been gone over again and again, basically AT&T, which has the original contracts, told IBM, "What's ours, is ours" "What's yours is yours" Look for a document called addendum 2 (I think), of the original ATT agreements on Groklaw, or any of the dozens of sites with the legal documents. SCO is saying we think you did something wrong, show us where it is !. It dosen't work that way. To anticapte the standard reply of "Well, if IBM has nothing to hide, why don't they give SCO all of AIX?". Because that is not the way the law works. If this were true, I could say I think you took my money, because I have money that looks similar to your money. I want to come to your house, and search every nook and crany to see if I find any of SCO/MY money. Not sure to many people would go for that
I hope IBM takes action and drags their sorry faces into the mud.
This has been gone over at length on Groklaw. IBM HAS taken action. No matter what SCO does, IBM still has a huge countersuit under something called Lanham Act . Methinks SCO is in a bit of trouble
Its not a huge impact on my life, though some things, like being very restless when trying to watch TV, drives my wife nuts.
That is really the key. If it disrupts your life, your job, your relationship, that is when you start to consider treatment. I think going to your primary care doctor is a great first step.
Sometimes I think reading slashdot is slacking off at work, then I see the smokers who spend 15 minutes of every hour out side in the smokeing area, and I just click refresh.
I agree wholeheartedly, I quit smoking, but still take "smoke breaks". I go outside, look at the pretty girls, get some fresh air, and go back re-energized and ready for a few more patients.

So, these cameras filming the public are okay.
But These cameras are not ? How is a guy supposed to keep up ?
