    I suppose you've never had a teacher that was so horribly disorganized you never knew what the teacher was going to discuss? Also, did you stop to consider that maybe they are taking notes on what the teacher talks about so they know hwat to expect on the test?

    If your kids are installing these trojans via warez, cursor packs, or other gizmos they will get your Mac Mini into trouble too. That is unless they don't have admin access. But why would you give your children admin access to any box?

    Wow! That's quite the battery capacity you have there...

    In all seriousness though, I've been using Win 7 since the week of release. My laptop battery is approximately a year old. I've had no problems with it whatsoever.

    I think you should make your own opensource gas pedal software then and run it on your BMW. Perhaps Toyota will find it preferable to their own software.

    Seriously though, I think that car makers should be forced to standardize on certain electronic components to drive down the cost of the computer modules and make them easier to work on. Then you really could get open source software for your car.

    Patent trolls don't get awarded patents. They buy patents, typically from companies that are going out of business or have been purchased to be sold off in pieces. There are a few research institutes that make money by licensing research, though. Would they be considered non-practicing entities? Because that does seem like a legitimate use of the patent system.

    Wasting mod points for this but... You're my hero. I wish everyone else looked at things this way. It would be especially nice if they taught people this in drivers ed.

    I went to a San Jose Sharks game while I was home visiting family at Christmas. My iphone did not work AT ALL in the arena. It took me 30 minutes to send a text message during the game. I had full signal strength. As soon as the game was over and I got a few blocks away, everything worked again.

    Because we all know a government run monopoly is the most cost effective means of doing something.

    I wouldn't exactly call it a government run monopoly. I mean, they aren't using unfair business practices to keep others from entering into the space arena. And I doubt you're factoring in the cost of training the astronauts. It's not cheap. Better to spend the extra money on transport and have a better understood risk than to go with a private company.

    On a related note, what pisses me off even more is going to a website and trying to use a strong password and their system doesn't allow it.

    I'm afraid of using a good password at some sites because I fear they store passwords in cleartext. No point in wasting a good password on that!

    Review the code all you want, you're not going to find everything. No one releases bug free software. IMO, the only advantage open source can possibly claim is a lower MTTF, or mean time to fix.

    Perhaps you should try it again with Internet Explorer 8. The first thing it has you do is select a search provider, you can't use the browser until you select one. Yes the default is bing, but all the major search engines are there and they are listed in Alphabetical order. Maybe that's why they changed their name to Bing, though.

    Exactly. I suspect the increased search traffic is due to BCB, or Bing Cash Back if you're not into deals websites. Almost every single slickdeal post in the month of December had BCB as part of their slick prices. I used it myself for several purchases I was planning on making anyway.

    Basically when I wanted to get 20% cash back on a purchase at Walmart I went to bing and searched "Walmart Bluray" and it returned an ad offering cash back at Walmart.

    Looks to me like the document says they can choose to search for any reason and they may or may not have to disclose that search to you and even if they disclose that search they may or may not have to let you watch that search.

    Every single privacy protection in that document had an escape clause that allows them to circumvent that protection in the interest of national security, or some other loophole. That policy document doesn't make me feel any better about the matter.

    I actually had the same problem with my iPhone 3G until the 3.0 OS update came out. I was lucky to have any signal at my desk sometimes. Updated to 3.0 and suddenly I had full bars. Hopefully this is a software issue on the Nexus too.

    Sweden may have stricter standards than the US, but I think the US has stricter standards than Korea, China or India. I'm not sure about Korea though.

    Well, that was why I included unions into the equation. It is the pension programs that the unions helped negotiate that are so costly.

    That's why they can build better cars at a far lower cost than their American competitors can, for example.

    Ahh I was somehow under the false impression that they were able to make cheaper cars due to lower wages, less environmental regulations, and the lack of labor unions.

    SHame on Blizzard then. The key algorithm was so weak I was able to create my own keys as a teenager. I just needed one valid key to start and could figure out all possible keys from it. It was one of the worst keys I've ever seen.

    I feel you on that one. I once had an employer bust my balls and refuse to pay a $4 expense from jamba juice because the receipt wasn't itemized. My response to them? You can have the $4 but I'll never travel again if that is how it's going to be.
