Citation needed. Have fun, because you're dead wrong. For example, we produce on average two orders of magnitude more CO2 than volcanism. Are you getting paid to spout this shit, or are you telling lies for free? That's not a very good deal.

Even after a major eruption event? I know these don't happen very often, but I have a hard time believing that we output more CO2 than a volcano can potentially output. But if you're talking dormant, or mostly dormant volcanoes, who would be surprised by that statistic?

If you know someone, you can get into them, but I bet the application would never make it past HR. I'm a pretty spot on match for 90% of their requirements, maybe more. But I am not going to bother applying for a job that is somewhere I don't want to live, and is also likely just a waste of my time. I have a job already and am only casually looking at other opportunities.

I was actually contacted about another position with a smaller company. They asked me to apply and I was interested, and did so. They called me up for a phone screen and asked how many years of mobile development i had (it's on my resume). I was honest and the person started going on about how I should have never applied because I didn't meet the minimum qualifications. Then I explained to them that I used to do embedded development for ARM/MIPS and that I have plenty of experience on low power devices, and am just a little short of experience on the particular mobile API they wanted me to know. They went from being on the verge of ending the phone screen, to talking to me for another 20 minutes. It left a bad taste in my mouth for that company, however.

I just got an email from Samsung at the beginning of this week asking me to apply for a job in Dallas, TX. They are looking for an ARM Server hardware/software development team. They sent me the software job description and it looks like they want people who can tweak some firmware and perhaps even tinker with the Linux kernel. Looked like a great job but they require an MS in CS/CE and prefer PH Ds. I don't know why they even bothered emailing me. They have my resume and I clearly do not have a masters.

Yes my school had "lab fees" tossed in as well, though they were applied to all classes that have a lab. We had "mathematica lab" for calculus classes and what not. It just so happens that 90% of the engineering classes had labs, and so you paid more lab fees than anyone but perhaps the science majors. I think they had it fixed to a dollar amount per lab hour, if I recall correctly.

  17. Re:Florida economic degree? on Tuition Should Be Lower For Science Majors, Says Florida Task Force · · Score: 2

Yes. Perhaps you didn't understand his point that the cost is the same for the liberal arts student as it is for the engineer. The engineer is likely in more demand than the liberal arts student. His argument is that they should pay less because in theory there should be more people going after those degrees. When everyone pays the same tuition some students think "I might as well take all these recreational studies classes, they are a blast!" And don't pursue in demand degrees. While I don't necessarily agree with what he is saying, I think his point is clear. The only influence the market has on majors is anticipated pay upon graduating and getting a job. While that works for some people, it does not work on all. I think this is just going to lower the quality of STEM students, however. Either way, my ears started bleeding when I was listening to the Senator-elect from Massachusetts talk about bailing out all the liberal arts students with more student loans than they can afford. Maybe this way some of those people will take a few classes and learn a little bit of math and economics?

You can broadcast how you vote all you want, but there should be a level of privacy inside the actual room that you vote in. Note that the media and others are welcome to wait outside for you to come out. They just can't go inside to film you.

I said I abstain from voting when I do not understand an issue. I would think you could be okay with that. At least I am not going down the ballot marking every single D or R on the ballot. But if you're not okay with it, I don't care. It's my right to vote, and I will do so how I see fit. I do not know of a manufacturer that does not do this. Ford seems to have the easiest codes to get a hold of (cheapest price that I've seen, at least). But they specifically allowed it when they passed the law that made ODB-II go into effect in 1995. They have certain powertrain/engine codes that have to be shared amongst all manufacturers. Beyond that, they can do whatever they want. For instance I own a Subaru, and when I hook up my reader to the computer I can see that there are certain custom codes available for the transmission, but can only see the selected gear and a few other things. The other codes show no data. Even when I hook it up to an open source or android ODB-II app, there is no data for those codes.
