"one of the top Computer Science programs in the world" - I've heard this claim from almost every University with a CS department. I thought the University of Waterloo was "one" of the bes...blah, blah...
Funny you mention hate...I use to have "SCO Unix" in my resume and I have removed it since the Linux incident...I truly don't think it will hurt my job prospects:)
Gossling, Jobs, Berness-lee, Maddona, and Martha Stewart were hired by M$ in order to build the coolest looking (yet functionally useful in the household) Java(TM) compiler hand held device - With a tinge of sluttiness, provided by Maddona - Just enough to appeal to all geeks alike - And also going with a mini-mini-iPod UI and a great assortment of colors...It's a mini-mini, since the mini-iPod is such a success for Jobs...
I say, relax people, the dude was probably made a good offer and in a free enterprise economy, everything goes...I say good for him...
The whole point of one more email service is that it allows for more choice. Choice people. If any consumer is concerned about privacy, he/she/it has the choice of NOT using the service.
This choice is the whole premise of our society. No one (at least not yet), is forcing me to use X's or Y's email service...If you are concerned, don't use it.
These type of stories make it sound like we will be forced to use such services . This is a non-issue from the get-go. Google is in it to make a buck, and the way to do it (for them) is to profile the gmail users...We are not children, we know what that data is used for...Have a concern, RTFPrivacyStatement - And don't use it if you don't understand/like it...
It will be very clear soon that the Dating Design Patterns will become "Antipatterns."
The following algorithm would suffice in any situation:
Step 1 - Shower
Step 2 - Approach female
Step 3 - Do not talk about computers/programming/design patters/Java/OO
Step 4 - Say "Hi, what's your name?"
Step 5 - If rejected GOTO Step 2, BUT first check if Step 1 happened between 24 hours. If this is the case, GOTO Step 1.
Do not forget Step 1 - This is a must for females, I've heard...Follow this algorithm, and you'll be surprised at the results...
It may have been mentioned, however, the idea here is to sell more XP software and get all the big cos. not running XP to upgrade to XP...There are big cos. still running on Win98 still. Not to mentioned NT and 2000.
M$'s statement will read: "Pay us for XP and there will no security issues due to the code leak..."
It is true that software should be tested, however, testing doesn't asure the absence of bugs, it only shows that there were bugs for the code tested...
Read any Software Engineering book - It should give you some background as to what is really involved in "Software Engineering" - Programming is not Software Engineering or Development...
Also, read "No Silver Bullet - Essense..." @ No silver bullet...
Software is very complex and the complexity is part of the software, hence, impossible (?) to assure it's reliability due to the factorial explotion of combinations...
:)

Futurama was on of the best TV shows. You can go wrong with repeats - And of course you can get all the information you can handle at gotfuturama.com.
I really don't see what the big deal is.

It's a freaking cartoon - Who would confuse cartoon news, as "real" news? Gablish...
Ethernet is great and all, but, there is that issue with the cables all over the place.
Ok, you can hide them inside of the wall, but, what if you want to move your VCR (or whatever) where there is no network outlet).
Once it's wireless, then we'd be talking about revolution (What about X10?)...
The funniest (me thinks) is in the episode when the whole town (it seems) goes to a ski trip and Ned is wearing a tight (red) skiing suit:
Homer (Picturing Flanders): "Stupid, sexy Flanders..."
Has anyone noticed that Eclipse's home page is no longer what it used to be?
Is IBM droping the project after it buys Rational?
