(I'd avoid flaming Gentoo, but I can't resist; the thing that drive me NUTS was the horrible package quality of Qt and MythTV....)
That does sound like a terrible experience, and I'm sorry about your wasted day, but since you understand what was going wrong, you could email the package maintainer for MythTV, or submit a bug in gentoo's bugzilla. I don't think there's anything in portage that would prevent people from inserting code to check for MySQL support in Qt before compiling MythTV, so I think your problem was, as you said, with the package and not with the system. And there are many ways to report individual package problems and make sure they get fixed.
Also in other news, nvidia reports that they have just created a prototype of a draft of a timeline for creating a chip that will be able to make Doom3 run at anything faster than 10fps.
How many people do you think actually look to CERT before choosing what web browser to use? And among that group of people, how many are already using an alternative browser?
Actually, one of the developers has revealed in his blog that he has apparently found a solution. If it doesn't work at the moment, it probably will soon. ^_^
I think that, contrary to your belief, slashdot posters don't actually think that webservers burn under load. Instead, they employ hyperbole to make a joke. It's much funnier to imagine a webserver catching on fire than, say, someone dealing with an IIS crash and/or paying for high bandwidth usage.
On a side note, web servers burn at high enough temperatures, just like most things.
Great cynicism, but that's not a very profitable venture. How many shrunken coins do you have to sell in order to replace your smoldering heap of a web server?
I also like how the backdoor part of the virus apparently doesn't even work due to a "bug in the code", and it's set to stop functioning in just over a week. Why on earth did this make slashdot?
I was wondering the same thing. According to the inordic website (linked from an above comment) it does, in fact, have a mic-in, and supports recording to WAV and/or MP3. I might just have to buy one of these suckers.
yup. lots of crazy things happen when you divide by zero.
(a+b-c = 0)

Correction: you could use a blank for one of the 'y's, but then it would only be worth 21 points.
Apparently, you've never seen a scrabble word. (There are only two 'y's in Scrabble).

Nah, apparently it would have only saved you 45 minutes.

*smack!*

+5 insightful? Here's a summary:
...proceeds to talk about it...
"All smoke and no fire... Don't talk about it just build it."
What makes this post any different than the original idea?
Hm, I also went to high school with Seth (on the campus which is now being sold... bastards!), and I, too, want to congratulate him ^_^
I'd rather see Bill Clinton's list of bookmarks.

Indeed. I have only one response:
`emerge -C net-www/netscape-flash`
Wow, you're clearly thinking of a different product than this.
But, at least you were trying to be offensive and clever.
I agree. Seems to be the best thing... too bad NOBODY HAS IT IN STOCK! aaaarrrggg...

jigga-what? jigga-who?

There's an easy solution--keep reloading. I'm sure you'll get it eventually ^_^
