How many of these new cells would it take to power this I wonder? With that 60% increase of the 0% we were getting previously from the UV band, I would imagine quite a few bananas will get eaten before those monkeys actually collide!
"Appears" is the key word. It may appear that way to someone who already has values in their mind. To me, all of those things listed are equal in offensiveness -- in that they aren't any of my business and aren't offensive to me because they do not personally attack me. And in that if I want to watch them, I should be allowed to. And they shouldn't be censored just because someone else doesn't want to watch them, especially when that someone else can change the channel, use a v-chip to automatically filter it out, or just generally have an idea of what the fuck they are doing with various forms of media devices.
Besides, I would wager that to many of the hardcore censorship types, gay sex would be the most offensive thing, even after multiple penetrations and bestiality. But don't read too far into that, because that has nothing to do with MY values or the point I was making.
I agree. Even with no censorship at all the system would find a natural medium where things such as homosexual rape are simply not desirable enough to warrant the time on the air.
On the other hand, allowing government to continually tighten the noose around our necks, to allow them to censor more and more, and eventually to allow the extinction of free speech, is the direction we're going, and I can say confidently that this is much worse than a child seeing pornography of ANY kind.
I agree with you. The nude body is not something to be censored. Not even on public television.
But what about sex? I'm not talking love, I'm talking pure, lustful, sex. What about double, or even triple penetration? What about people having sex with animals? We're all just animals anyway, right? And so what if that woman wants a combined three feet of throbbing man love in her? I mean, she's got that Right, to choose to do that, hasn't she? How about gay sex?
While I agree that the nude body is nothing to be ashamed of or censor, and I understand that you didn't say you think I should turn to a public channel and be able to see a gang-bang in progress, I think we must draw the line somewhere as a society.
Is that line drawn at soft-core pornography? Or before? Is it drawn whenever the nudity is involved in a sexual act? What if it is just posing in a sexy way?
No problem really for me. I live in Alaska and watch TV in the evening. That means most of the year it's going to be dark outside. In the summer, when it's light all night, I don't really watch TV much. Out of curiousity, how many lumens can one of those projectors put out? The one I was looking at was 1200 I believe. That's quite a lot of light, you'd think in a nicely shaded room it would be no problem.
Hey I didn't say it wasn't noticeable.. it's just not striking like 1080p. My PS3 does an excellent job of upscaling.
On another note... Holy cow. I just looked at 1080p projectors. I am NOT buying another TV. The Optoma HD80 1080p projector with a ceiling mount (I'd run the cables professional-quality myself) is my new goal. Run one HDMI cable, use a fully HDMI24 compliant HDMI switch for four sources, and you have yourself a hell of a system that 3 years ago would've cost $30,000 but today is under $3,000. This sounds like my next project.
Fact is, I am in your same boat. I purchased a PS3 nearly right after they were released. Even at the higher price I paid it was a better deal than most HD-DVD players. I believe Paramount and DreamWorks are going to eat their words and regret the decision before it's all over. To me though it's not a big deal. While I do have an HDTV it is only 720p. So, if I want to buy Transformers, I will do so and watch it upscaled on my PS3. Because really, the difference between 720p and upscaled DVD is only just noticeable. Between upscaled DVD and 1080p is a different story though.
I imagine that I will go ahead and upgrade to 1080p, but only once 2 things have happened. One of the two formats wins, and HDTV 1080p TVs drop in price for models > 50" to somewhere around 1500-2000 dollars.
This is proof that you should believe everything you read in the news. Especially on Slashdot, where the is NO bias towards anything, especially Microsoft. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
Ok actually let's not. Let's play a little imagination game.
Picture the whole of IT companies and companies that use IT as a spherical microcosm. The normal physical dimensions in this microcosm are instead dimensions of economy, scale, and technology. Like our universe is puportedly doing, this sphere is expanding. Now, because he claims these "elite" companies are basically exponentially distancing themselves from the other companies, they could arguably be on the extents of the expanding sphere. Although there are fewer of these companies they require much more of our microcosmic IT space. Fair enough. Moving away from us, and red shifted from our perspective in the exact center of the sphere.
So far, so good I guess. Then we have blue-shifted companies. In this microcosm, in order to become blue-shifted to my perspective, you'd have to be heading away from using more advanced technology and also using less of it. Frankly, I can't come up with a single company in the world that's doing that and is successful. If you don't look at in on a time-scale of a year or two, but rather of fifty, one hundred or even five hundred years, it's pretty damn clear that every single company is red-shifted from the perspective of an individual in the center of the microcosmic sphere.
End game.
So I put it to you,/. reader, to fix my broken visualization of his analogy. If you can't, I have to say to Popdopopdoloslous, you have lost me.
Who modded the parent insightful? OMG Blizzard is trying to make money?! OH NOES.
Seriously, lrn2business.
BTW, the first expansion (The Burning Crusade) is quite awesome. Sure, a small vocal minority might be heard now and again saying that they hate it, that they quit, that it tore apart their guilds... To which most people say many things, largely just "QQ more". But the numbers have spoken and 9 million subscriptions mean the vocal minority can eat their words.
Fact of the matter? TBC is a danmned good expansion. Damned good. By industry standards. By MMORPG standards. By Blizzard's own standards. And of course, by mine.
It's pretty easy to make fun of an elderly man for not being totally up on the current lingo and getting it wrong by saying tubes instead of pipes. Of course, when you are his age I doubt you'll be even close to that coherent or up on the current lingo. You'll probably be drooling and bed ridden because "YOU NO WANT GIRL -- YOU WANT HOT POCKET" and lil'smokies and comfortable computer chairs and such from which you can espouse your endless self-affirmation of intelligence. Don't let me stop you.
Can you tell I'm from Alaska? Can you tell I appreciate everything he has done for the state? Everything which majorly outweighs anything this federal probe could possibly uncover? Because that's what pisses me off -- people having no damned clue. Like you, for example.
Yea yea, you were just joking -- good job, nice Karma boost. And yea, I'm burning Karma doing this, because most people on Slashdot are just like you, and are here to crack jokes or boost their egos. Big fucking deal. I'm starting to get tired of people making fun of an old man for messing up the lingo of a younger generation when that sort of thing is expected out of the elderly.
But yes, very witty of you, by all means, please continue.
This is proof that the higher education system in the United States is fucked up. We should see the advantage of educating our people and not DENYING people the right to an education based on MONEY. If that means more taxes to pay for the professors and equipment, sign me up. Or move some of the taxes we already pay into this area. Or even better, how about spending some minor percentage of those TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS we're spending in Iraq on this? It just pisses me off because I know that educating our people would be more effective than kiling them in Iraq for what appears to be a lost cause.
So does this affect phones? Slapping arbitrary technical specs on something might later on bleed over into emerging technologies. Hell, I think my phone is almost capable of that... It's not, but it can't be long before your average phone is... So, what's the plans for that?
Einstein would've probably taken offense to your statement that reality isn't relative, but I agree with your post. Also, I wouldn't necessarily call moral decisions wrong per se, but misguided. In truth, you could make a decision based on ethereal moral values which is a 'right' decision, even though you made have made the decision for the 'wrong' reasons -- though based on your previous statements I would venture to say you probably lean towards a deterministic philosophy (meat computer..) thus negating the ability to truly 'decide' anything and rather being determined based on the intrinsic flow of space and time through which we all find ourselves moving.
Then again, this is only about pornography, which is my mind is a natural thing. Or is it?
One time, I was at a gumball machine. So I'm putting in my quarter, and I turn the knob and out pops TWO gumballs! I was so happy. I got two. Of course, if you were there and watching you probably would've either tried to arrest me, or told me that I had to mail one back.
The point is: since you are the one who claims it's wrong, where do YOU draw the line between calling someone a criminal and just admitting that your machine is screwed up and moving on?
I'll do you a favor and draw it for you: this is 100%, entirely and in every way, the Casino's problem.
There, now that we've settled that... all you kids who got free gumballs can rest easy. KingSkippus isn't coming for you in your sleep anymore.
...with a more just and equitable distribution of property and labor.
That sounds great. When you figure out a way to get people to want to live in a country/state like this, let me know. Because I'm going to be watching pigs fly in a frozen hell at that time.
Many, many people want the chance to be RICH, to be POWERFUL, to have WEALTH and to DO WHAT THEY WANT. Tell me how an equitable distribution of property and labor fits into that desire? Tell me how a country full of these people will be succesful at anything, or how they will excel at certain things that are driven by the aforementioned desires?
No offense, but carry an extra battery. I'd MUCH rather carry an extra battery and get fast internet speeds than get slow internet speeds.
Carrying and extra battery means you need a separate charging station for the battery. Get one for your car. If you don't have one for your car, that's fine. Two batteries should last you more than enough time to get back to your place at night (or hotel room, wherever) and put the extra battery in the charging station and plug in your phone. Wake up, have two fresh batteries, repeat.
The only added time is that you have you plug in two things at the outlet when you go to recharge. Except wait, you're saving time not sitting there like a tool while EDGE does its slow-ass thing.
Hmm, sounds like a time savings overall.
And if you are too much of a cheapskate to buy another battery, then I dunno what to tell you except maybe you don't value your time enough.
Where else can you learn such amazing things, such as:
- What it is to be "rickrolled" - That everyone should "lrn2ply" "nub" - That ridiculous is actually spelled "rediculous" - That OMG I"M NOT TWLEVE I"M TJHIRTEEN is acceptable retort? - The facepalm? - That people often like pie? - The internet is for porn? - Leeroy Jenkins
OK but seriously. I've learned that WoW is just MySpace with cool loot.
Now, back to the topic.
Is it safe to call a game that stimulates the brain, one that requires the solving of complex problems in succession, one that requires the organization of many things simultaneously, educational? Even though it doesn't teach you about the war of 1812? Does education mean book smarts? Or does it expand to cover things like problem solving and mental conditioning?
Because if it does, then most video games educate. Whether or not the time spent on that form of education is worthwhile, I am not at liberty to say.
This is not about freedom of speech. This is about freedom to choose what you want to sell. Many 'family' companies don't want to sell games that depict this degree of realisitc violence.
There were some kids that stole cars after playing GTA because they thought it was cool. What kind of things could we expect those kids to do after playing this game?
I'm not saying I think this game itself should be banned from the open market and country. THAT would be an issue of freedom of speech. But I understand that certain stores choose not to carry adult titles. That is their decision.
If Take-Two makes the smart choice, it will be to sell the game themselves. Otherwise their only option is to tone it down to meet the ratings standards for their larger distributors. Who knows how much change that will take the to 'artwork' of the game? Probably a significant amount.
Showing that you had the drive to go back and do better, scoring higher, and learning even more, would be enough to show me that you had motivation which could translate to the job. Of course, the problem is I probably wouldn't even look at your grades -- I might just check to see if you graduated and choose to check into other qualifications. In which case you might be wasting a year by going back, because that's one more you could've had either looking for the right job or already being in the right job and making money.
