Passing an ethics course was mandatory in my country (Canada) to be awarded an engineering degree. Ethics do not only apply to business. Cutting corners and bad decisions can lead to all sorts of catastrophes (See the Tacoma Narrows bridge failure or the Deepwater Horizon oil spill for a couple of examples)

And the boarder agents at the land boarder crossings as well. They can be over the top too often... both on the American and the Canadian side (mind you on the Canadian side it is mostly directed towards Canadians as they really are just rebranded tax collector automatons).

Are the boarder agents looking for pirates? I can't think of any other reason that they would deploy boarding parties.

The article implies that it's due to people keeping their finger on the touchscreen when they select a language preference. The location of Harry would be in the same screen location as English, where Sally would be in the same screen location as Spanish. Really, it's just sloppy coding, as you should wait until the user's finger is lifted before allowing another selection.

These scientists get a salary from a government agency. They may or may not also get a salary from a university, but that is besides the point. This is about employers controlling the communications of its employees. That the employers are various government agencies adds a bit of an interesting twist in that the Canadian populace as a whole are paying their salaries, and so should have some stake in the fruits of their labours. The implication is that the politicians are only interested in data that backs up their agendas, and would like to sweep any contradicting evidence under the rug. Add to this that the scientists may also have their own agendas (career advancement being one of them), and so might be tempted to work towards specific conclusions rather than objectively look at what conclusions their data points to.

And yes you can write code in BSDL to control JTAG. It sucks (I know from experience), but it can be done.
