Actually, where I live (Pennsylvania), a friend of mine's husband is a guard at a state prison. He is not allowed to bring his phone any closer to the building than his car out in the parking lot.
Its great when youre playing Modern Warfare 2 and see someone trying to play using the "bouncy deathmatch" strategy. You know immediately that they are from the old school of the FPS days. After you admire for a second, you just blast away. The old tactics of jumping and spinning don't work so well anymore.
This whole thread is chocked full of, as are most threads about HP's management and Board of Directors, of cuts against Carly Fiorina. When I was still in business school taking management/marketing core courses back in about 2002-2004, all we ever heard about from multiple professors was how great she was as a CEO. "Carly Fiorina revolutionized this, created this new management style, blah blah blah" Literally, she was the topic of countless lectures and readings.
I haven't follow much news upto and including her departure from HP, other than she was ill with cancer of some type at some point. What did I miss that she did wrong with HP? I had no idea she ran the company into the ground, as its said so often on Slashdot.
I would venture that there are a few of the Caribbean countries that could become the next China. After a trip through recently, its become obvious to me that many countries in the area (Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica) have large industrial sectors with excellent import/export transportation access, but few regulations and lacking infastructure. I think with a bit of refining, these countries could be respected as larger scale production exporters on the world stage, for more than simple crops and commodities.
I agree with this, and have a similar experience. I have tons of burned CDs full of.zip files of games from my younger days when I had time and access but no money. Now that the money and time situation has been reversed, I enjoy going to Big Lots (or a similar bargain/fire-sale type store) and picking up some games that I think I may want to play but may not have the time, because who really cares at the price point. I bought Settlers 4 and Viva Pinata brand new for $4.99 each. They're both still in the shrink-wrap, and I really don't have a concern about ever getting to try them out, but I do have them just for the if/when that the desire takes me.
When I was younger, I pirated a lot of games. I had little spending money and a lot of free time. Now for the situation has reversed, I have money to buy a lot of games, but little free time to actually play them. So with the exception of games from a couple studios (Blizzard and Valve), I only buy games when they pass my impulse buy threshold. That way if I am more likely to get value out of the purchase even if I don't end up playing it that much.

It was always my understanding (worked in the industry more than 10 years), that the players just enjoyed playing Ms. Pac Man more than the original Pac Man. Simply a more popular game, and many of the units have the speed bumped up for a faster-paced experience. I'm unsure about production numbers, but something tells me they did produce more Ms. Pac machines.
We always take the PATH over from Hoboken, NJ, then hit the D up to Chinatown. Really not that bad at all. Seems like everyone on here makes it sound like its really far out of the way in Chinatown. Not too hard to walk a few blocks to play some MVC2!
Some sort of automatic low bid type thing? Let's say you see 50 brand new cars on eBay with no reserve and you automatically bid $10 on every single one, knowing you have practically no chance in winnin, but thinking that one might stand. Perhaps its an automatic feed designed to buy shares of say, Walmart, but only if it hits.30 cents a share?
I was a Journalism major in college, and I know they still teach you to use two spaces. I would agree, I think it makes for more reable and pleasant looking text.
I'm sick and tired of all these Conficker fanboys. You sit and talk about your botnet being so great because its open source, and you can expose your information to any malicious actions you choose, big deal! I'll take my Mariposa walled garden any day, at least I know that I can give up my SSN, mother's maiden name, and current home address and I know it will "Just Work" when it comes to stealing my data.
Every time the conversation arises about NASA's "game", nobody ever mentions it. I had many a great evening playing Moonbase when I was younger, back on my old IBM PS/1. I was hoping that NASA would have done something similar to it, where SimCity meets lunar terrain.
Was in Barbados a few weeks ago. Talk about some seriously balls-out drivers. The roads are terrible, and their "highway" is the width of a normal single-lane road in the US, so many of the drivers have to stop and let others pass, etc. Many times we were scraping through foliage on the sides of the road, or a mere inch from a drop-off, building/wall, or 2 foot deep draining ditch. I have to admit, I was very impressed, but it was a bit scary at high speeds. Those guys are damn good!
There is another great benefit that I haven't heard mentioned yet: I was on a 5 hour flight last week, and it was VERY convenient to take the DS, with the ezFlash card in it, and be able to play a variety of different titles on a whim. No carrying extra game cards, no fiddling with cases, everything just contained in one unit. Very convenient, and I would hope legal, if you own the games that you pack onto your SD card!
I agree 100% with your general stance on the situation. The pay is too low for anyone to want, or almost afford, to be on the up-and-up. Not to mention, it seems to be a bit too easy to become a police officer these days. I really think the basic requirements in educational level and clean arrest records should be upped a bit.
When I met her I said "You want his ass beaten and thrown in jail? Say the D Word(Drugs). Tell the cops he is beating on your door and you think he has dope" Guess what happen next time he showed up? Cops were there in under 3 minutes and after they got done tearing his truck down to the frame looking for the stash they manhandled the fuck out of him, slamming him on the cop car, and then hit him with every little charge they could possibly tack on. He ended up with something like 4 years behind bars by the time they were done. While there are still a few good cops they are damned few and far between. From what I've seen most are just bullies with badges looking to score free dope and cash.
So you basically had her lie and say he has drugs? Then the cops manhandled him, threw the book at him and he didn't have any dope? I would say those cops are a bit crooked. I wouldn't be happy about that kind of justice in my neighborhood. If he didn't have drugs and they pulled this on him, they were probably just sick and tired of having to come to the same damn residence all the time, and someone was going to pay. Why did you just throw some child porn in the window of his truck while they were wrestling with him?
Unless he DID have drugs and I'm just not reading into your story exactly how you want me to. Regardless, shitty cops, they come storming for drugs and don't care about domestic violence calls or restraining order violations.

I have to agree, would be pretty awesome.
Now they just have to do this with a good game.
Apparently a monkey will make terrible human-like decisions, one decided to host the YouTube clip. Zing!

Odd that you are concerned about privacy and use (what I would assume to be) your real name on Slashdot.

At least the Pacific version of Coney Island Whitefish have something to eat.
What does Cleveland waste? Hopes and dreams?

Sorry, its just something about those two words together that brings up a chuckle.
