It'd be nice if they would actually get around to admitting the YLOD overheat problem with the older 40-60-80 gig units is a manufacturing error (its obvious upon disassembly that the thermal grease is improperly applied and of low quality) and fix them. Hell, even Microsoft admitted to and addressed the RROD problem, taking steps to properly assist those who suffered from it.
I often wondered why they never gave Deep Blue, or any other chess playing PC, an interner connection. S, if you think youre the tits, you can go online to www.beatdeepblue.com or some shit, and play. You may have to wait in a queue, so it can dedicate all computational power to the art of chess, but why couldnt this be possible? Pipe dream I guess, or vodka dream.
How many Gaga fans are on/.? For Christ sake, she is far from talented, and I wouldnt fuck her with YOUR dick. Mod me as troll all day, see if I give a shit. TROLL ALL DAY.
I thought similarly to this, but what would happen when winter hits, not only Chicago, but anywhere in the Northeast as well? Traffic would simply ramp back up, probably be jammed moreso than before, and snow removal would become an even larger problem because they have to make room for these automated paths somehow.
In games, I remember that Sierra On-Line's point-and-click VGA adventure games (Leisure Suit Larry, Kings Quest, Space Quest, etc) seeming to be the biggest offenders of this type of thing. If you got stuck, you just clicked on the "out-of-place" looking item, door or character on their nicely drawn or painted backgrounds. However, it really served as a good hint sometimes.
Just as most people have learnt that putting a device like a mobile phone or an iPod in your pocket along with your keys (the screen will get scratched) is a bad idea
What the hell? So thats how this has been happening?
Fox Sports now produces a postgame show called The OT (a play-on-words based on The OC, which this show has outlasted) that is joined like the halftime show as each game concludes, and can show bonus coverage of games still going to stations that get stuck with an early finish, and always ends at 8pm ET sharp.
I actually believe this is a play on the sports term overtime (AKA OT). As in, their coverage is going into overtime. It has nothing at all to do with The OC, play on words or otherwise. Then again, this is Slashdot, why would anyone get a sports reference?
This thread has largely turned into an "old people can't cope with technology" thread, so allow me to chime in.
My girlfriends father is nearly 81 years old and is very adept with using technology, but only what interest him.
For example, he only has a prepaid cell for emergency use. Never text messages, has voicemail disabled, etc. Home phone or nothing for him. However, he constantly works on his Mac with Photoshop CS5 on family pictures, etc, and produces some very impressive work. Much of it is on par with professional graphic design people (self created artwork and image manipulation). Granted, he loves to learn from online tutorials and books, but he is in no way afraid of technology. He can handle upgrades and troubleshoot on his own, calling customer service on when necessary. Owns his own Wii to play Tiger Woods himself, and Wii Sports with the grandkids. Has a projection TV and surround sound setup that he researched himself to find one that fit his needs (albeit installed professionally).
What was his talent/hobby before that came along? He hand build custom and often complex doll and bird houses. What was his career? He was a car salesman for nearly 50 years.
He didn't grow up in the age of Commodore 64, NES, and 286-386 as I did. He didn't attend schooling for CS, or take any type of computing classes. I can't see why it has to be an age problem. I find computing and tech to be just like anything else in life, if you are interested in it, you learn it, do it, and enjoy it. We all just do this to a different extent. Just my two cents, YMMV.
I have a BTX style Gateway case, and I still love it. Its spacious with a good amount of open bays, ample USB and Firewire connections. All while running quiet and cool (although the Northbridge puts off a bit of heat). I would love to upgrade it, as the box currently runs an older single core P4. However, there are only a handful of BTX mobos out there, and they dual core is the best you can get with a Socket 775 (I believe thats what it run, memory a bit hazy). I even thought about rigging something inside to attempt to upgrade a bit to something newer (tri or quad core), while keeping the same tower. After doing a good amount of research, it doesn't seem very logical to do, I suppose I will have to just find a case that I like as much as my Gateway.
I can't say I'm amazed by this. Very similar to alcohol, takes more and more each time to feel the same combined with feeling shitty withdrawl symptoms (insomnia, shakes, irritability, etc). Too much of anything in your system is enough for your body to want, or should I say require, it to function normally. Maybe becoming a "social" caffeine consumer is the way to go? What the hell am I talking about? That's no fun!
I agree with you there, a fresh killer app required! Both systems are going to need a great title to propel their motion control setups into the mainstream 360 or PS3 hardware, and not keep it as a neat "extra device" type of accessory. Here is to hoping the titles for both systems don't end up feeling like the feature is tacked on, with made-for-Nadal/Move titles being WarioWare rip-offs and generic sports games. I think it will be very hard to beat the Wii at what it does best, along with Nintendo's good handful of years worth of a lead on working with motion control. E3 should be interesting for these devices. You never know, we could all be surprised.
I'm in the same boat as you, a ample-powered PC gaming rig, PS3 and a Wii. I wasn't saying there aren't "hardcore" games on the Wii, there are enough, and even some 3rd party titles. I was trying to make the point that the Natal and the Move won't make a difference in system sales in the casual gamer demographic, why Wii is king. Nintendo figured out thats where the money is a long time ago. Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins won't run out and buy a PS3 or 360 for something they can have, or already do have, for a cheaper price. I really don't think many hardcore gamers have a use or interest in either of these devices. A good game is a good game, it doesn't need a gimmick. Remember the Playstation Eye? Not many asses in seats for that device either.
The more serious gamers who play 360 and PS3 dont give much of a damn about motion sensing gimmicks. Hell, I was unmoved when they added DualShock to the PS3 pads, just a waste of battey.
The more casual gamers who would get the "Wow!" factor probably already own a Wii by now.
Damn, I know plenty of people in their 30s who mothers still haven't cut the umbilical cord! Those guys must be chock full of stem cells and nutrients.
I have this set up under XP for Might and Magic: World of Xeen, but I haven't even thought about attempting to select the card until I read this article. I wonder if its any good? =D I remember hearing those cards back at a mom and pop computer store (remember those?) here in the mid-90s, and I was floored, but being 13-14, I was pretty lucky to have a standard Sound Blaster much less a Roland. Had to get an ISA expansion bay for my old PS/1 just to run that. I will say this, all the proprietary crap aside, the PS/1's monitor was so small that 320x200 looked amazing!
Then, Test Drive 3 pissed me off so bad that I threw a wad of change at the screen and scratched it. Live and learn...
I grow weary of that quote.

Whats he watching? Futurama or UFC?
This is what /. sucks anymore, you cant even have an opinion that disagrees with the GP without it being a troll. Thanks man.

Why is this rated troll? The poster is just giving his opinion. Lighten the fuck up.
Next question.

Why would anyone post something so awesome as AC?

Cause The lack of production management, computer virus has been contaminated with the camera.
Sounds to me like you bought the virus, but unfortunately the stupid camera was in the box to mess it all up.
