That's how I used to live, both as a student and fresh out of university. Then I got married and grew up. I may be able to live in a box in SF but I sure as hell am not going to force my family into that kind of "immature" lifestyle.

No, but the interface is vastly superior to Google Maps, which is its AJAX equivalent. So, the answer to the story is a resounding no. AJAX apps will not threaten Windows (or any) desktop.
Had the question been "Will AJAX enhance the Windows desktop?", the answer would have been yes. Of course, AJAX will enhance Mac, linux, bsd, whatever desktops, but that's not 'news'. Sadly, "X threatens Microsoft" is seen as news round these parts.

Very true. Although, this thing has firewire ports, doesn't it? Not trying to give fanboy excuses but there's always the option of having external firewire drives. It'd be nice to easily take your entertainment/home videos with you when you went home from university, visited friends and family etc. Firewire storage offers that option at an affordable price. Whether we'll be able to store media on firewire devices is another story though....

Bear in mind Sony don't seem to be marketing this as a games machine. They're going for the ever-elusive home entertainment hub market, so yes, any sized hard drive isn't going to be enough. ".. it only comes with a 4gb drive? How am I supposed to store all my home movies on it?"

It supposedly has slots for CF, SD, MS flash, so perhaps, like the PSP, it'll come with a flash card. Although, hopefully, unlike the PSP, it'll come with more than 32MB ;-)

Remember that train wreck a few months ago in, I think, California? It was caused by some guy attempting to commit suicide and then backing out at the last minute. He ran away and left his car on the tracks. Massive carnage, disruption and 11 people lost their lives.
Anyway, what amount of carnage, disruption and casualties would we see if 20 'daggum terrists' around the country simultaneously left cars, trucks, car/truck bombs etc on rail tracks? What if they did it again the next day/week/month in 20 other locations? All that would take would be 20 people and 20 vehicles. No special equipment, no special training, no special skills. That this, or other such simple attacks, hasn't happened yet is proof that there aren't hundreds of AlKayduhhh cells across the US just waiting to blow you up as you're striding through Walmart looking at oversized clothes eating your freedom fries.

No, you have it backwards. The lock-in is with Outlook, not Exchange. Nobody cares what's running in the server room and Outlook generally plays well with other vendors' server offerings. The sticking point is having to retrain everyone to use a different application for email, calendar, discussions, collaboration etc (not to mention syncing with all manner of handheld devices).
