If you only had to suffer through one commercial break per show it would be 15 minutes long and those who were able to would definitely skip past it. The other way is to have shows sponsored entirely by corporations - Ford's sponsorship of Fox's 24 springs to mind. I've been downloading it since S1 so I don't see the ads but I believe episode1 has been overtly commercial free for the last few seasons.
I don't know about that. This post's score will stay above 0 for about 30 seconds but I've got karma to burn so whatever. I've tried on no less than 7 occasions to make changes or additions to some rather innocuous pages only to return some moments later to a message telling me to stop defacing or trolling the site. I'm not talking about crazy political trolling or anything of that nature, merely additions of relevant links, changes to dates, spelling and grammar mistakes etc..
Wikipedia isn't an example of information wanting to be free, it's an example of groupthink spinning out of control. Has it changed dramatically in the last few months? I may return if it has, but if not it's just another example of a failed ideology.
Longhorn is just the codename for the next version of Windows, not the final name (atleast I hope not). Just like "Chicago" was the codename for the original Windows 95. We have yet to see what naming scheme Microsoft is actually going to market.
I believe they're going to stick with Windows 2009.
The most stable version I've used was 0.9. The last few releases have a habit of freezing up in various ways. It's not something that happens every day, but it happens a lot more than it used to.
I don't think Apple is demonstrating a grudge against OSS or Linux in particular, it's just that the market share of Linux on the desktop is tiny (2%). If Linux had 70% of the desktop market, they'd certainly be offering iTunes for X11 and Linux.
That's exactly what the parent was talking about - there's no market share so there's no money in it for them (increased ipod/itunes sales).
Nice troll. For those who are unaware of such things (many are judging by the +4 moderation) the official line can be found on the TV licensing web page: FAQ.
The simple fact of the matter is that if you only use a TV for consoles or DVDs you do not need a license.
"EyeTV 500 does not support the broadcast flag. Units bought before July 2005 will never support the broadcast flag. We will not update EyeTV 500 units bought before then to support the flag.
Thus, your EyeTV 500 will never support the broadcast flag. It will ignore flags, and not use DRM for any content. That means you'll have the maximum freedom possible with its recordings."
I am saying that the EyeTV 500 will never support the broadcast flag. That is, the broadcast flag will never be supported by the EyeTV 500. The flag that will not be supported is the broadcast flag and no other.
The truth of the matter is, $129 ($99 for students) for a new operating system is a steal. If you can't afford it, fine, no reason for you to upgrade. Microsoft will charge you around three times that.
I don't mean to upset those queued up in the "can I please blow you mr jobs" line but you'd have a point if MS charged for SP2 - it didnt. My only exposure to OSX is troubleshooting the problems my mother has with it, however, how on earth is charging for what are really nothing more than service packs a good thing? The Apple-Worship on here is nothing but astonishing.
Does anyone on/. actually receive as much spam as Spamhaus reports?
I run Popfile on my main PC. For someone who gets more than a handful of spams a day it's simply invaluable. Let me prove it to you. Here are some stats I've just copied and pasted from its web interface:
Since Thu Nov 20 16:14:56 2003 Bucket Classification Count

I don't post my email addresses all over the place* and as far as I can remember haven't posted on usenet for a long long time. Getting two or three spam emails a week firmly puts you on the "lucky" or "minority" side.
If nobody really got much spam at all then there wouldn't be stories all over the place about it and slashdot wouldn't have its own "spam" section.
I understand where you're coming from but what's the alternative? Everyone using Mac LCIIs with a 20MB hard drive and a couple of floppy drives? Technology moves on. Don't let the marketing droids blind you to what the geeks are doing.
Apple starve the market of "old tech" just before releasing "new tech", thus creating massive demand and huge sales figures, and you describe this as a blunder? I'll have two of whatever you're having!
2. there is no IR/remote support on the mac mini, so no remote control. this is kind of a big and small deal at the same time. it would not have cost much for them to add support for this, yet it is a feature essential to media centers.
This is Apple we're talking about. Give it 6 months and they'll release a one button remote with a USB receiver, call it an iMote and charge $199 for it. Apple devotees will proclaim it perfect - "the only remote I ever use these days".
Sarcasm aside, I'd buy one of these mini macs if they came with a G5. I can't get myself worked up over something with such low specs no matter how "cute" it is.
It's been asked before a thousand times I'm sure but when are the G5 versions coming out?
Good. Hopefully it'll be too dark to witness our destruction...

Firefox has been able to do that kind of thing ever since I started using it.

Do we like this because it's Apple, or do we hate this because 'geeks' lost their case...

Looks fine to me too. Firefox 1.0/WinXP

Does Mojo-Jojo work in their PR dept?

Cunts.
Welcome to AmeriCorp.
Here's me thinking there's too much bollocks on the internet at the moment...

It's a start, I guess.
Shame I don't have mod points at the moment. A top post.

That particular method isn't used as it would effectively tend to a forum for unchallenged bullshit.
You don't say...
I've been waiting for a suprnova replacement for a while!
