You can use my application 'JacksonDJ' to easily analyze songs and see whether their tempo is fixed: http://jacksondj.com . Disclaimer: there is currently no support.
Language INtegrated Query lets you write SQL-like constructs within C#. They run against a database, an XML store or just an object model. There's no reason why different models cannot be mixed within the same language.
It's hard to focus on the article with the huge add for a "Quality Russian Dating Service" below. It's bad enough that Slashdot is running ads, but this is downright pathetic. It's a nice example of targeted advertising though...
If you don't like DRM, don't buy any DRM-protected content. If artists and their financial backers want to protect their content, it's their legitimate choice.
Then why did Linus himself say that 2.4 would come out in the first quarter of 2000? (only to change that later to summer 2000) (which looks like another promise that he might not be able to keep...)
Vaporware, anyone?
N.B. No need to moderate this down. Address complaints directly to Linus.
I love designing and coding software and, not surprisingly, I want to make a living doing what I love.
Freedom is very important to me, so I don't want to work for other people. Therefore, I want to set up my own company selling my software over the Internet.
Now, I don't see how I can make a living if my software is free. It is multi-media software that is easy to use. There's not much money in the support department...
Can you explain to me how I can make a living, selling my program as open source?
I realise that this is a very simple and obvious question. Still, no-one has ever given me a clear answer. Thank you.
Passwords want to be free!
"Time was, Slashdotters had a bit of logic and rational thought to go along with their opinions."
Where did you get that idea?
Netflix is hosted on AWS, not on Azure.

Yes, let's start a hatefest! After all, that's what /. is for.

...for the simple reason that he does not exist (could go Einstein's argument).
Yes, that's why they call it Computer Science.

Obviously this scheme is heavily dependend on DRM. Since when, on Slashdot, DRM == getting it?

Great job indeed. I hear they're giving stock away for free too.
At this point, I've read two replies from BeOpen and both of them are laced with insults.
Allow me to advise the author to relax and to be more open.
So, why don't you fix this major problem instead of complaining about it?
The PIII, which came out before the G4, handles 128 bit vectors composed of up to 4 floating point numbers. It's called SSIMD.
These guys have balls, something you nerds can only dream about.
Taking on the on-line community like that, making millions of ennemies on the fly... Awesome.
Yes, it is safer to dutyfully repeat Katz' politically correct whinings, but is it a life?

Last thing I heard Linus was buying a house in Silicon Valley. Still, all he does is working on the kernel... Please explain.
