This is a dream come true. Had I known earlier, I probably would have arranged to meet this crew of Linux lushes.

The domed one is done on a different kind of film. It is called OMNI. IMAX is flat, OMNI is curved. Different film for each display. OMNI uses like 3 different reels of film at the same time while IMAX does not.
There is no such thing. IMAX is an extremly large flat screen that uses a different millimeter film than a normal movie theatre. When you turn it into a dome screen like the article said, it is called OMNI. IMAX is much more widely available. OMNI theatres can be found at such places like the Boston Museum of Science (Mugar Omni Theatre, or Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama (they have IMAX at their other campuses).
Informative?? Did anyone else find what this guy wrote extremly difficult to understand? It's not that the words, or even what he was talking about is over my head, just poor english. I couldn't even get half way through it without getting a headache.
This guy definatly wants to get OS X. It's got everything he's looking for. Sleek, fast interface, it's a UNIX, plays games, easliy configured for network connections, etc... If he's still running a K6 233, it's time for him to upgrade anyway. XP would kill a machine like that... go buy a Mac. I don't even own one, but if I were in the market to buy a new computer, I'd either get the new powerbook or a dual G3/G4 system.
This/. article said Earth will be dead by 2050. Don't you think this is just going to speed up the death of Earth? Damn congress... I don't know about them, but this 21 year old had planned on living for another 50 years.
This is quite possibly the coolest (oh wait.. warmest, warmest) case ever. After reading through the article, it sounds like it took this guy *forever* to make. He did an awful lot of painting, but appears to have been worth it. So how much for one of these things? I know a crap load of people who would buy something like this.
Why is it that/. is always comparing Japan and US with cell phone technology? What about Finland? I mean, Nokia *is* in Finland. And Ericsson (Sweden)? Nokia and Ericsson are probably the top two (or damn close) cell phone manufacturers in the world. The phones they've got in their home countries are much more advanced than the phones they market to the US. I've always been under the impression that the Norwegian countries lead the cell phone market. Correct me if I'm wrong..
I've said it on/. before. Shut up. I pay 9 bucks for a movie and don't want some 13 year old with a cell phone talking away on it during a movie. 9 f'cking bucks! If movies were cheaper, I might not complain, but 9 bucks!! I want to get what I'm paying for at that price; some peace a quiet during a movie.
Shut up. I was just at the movies watching Minority Report and 3 different phones rang from different locations in the theatre. You must live the Pleasantville or something..
Or the reason he is selling less it that he was dissed by Eminem in his song "Without Me".
"....and Moby, you could stomped by Obie, you 36 year old bald headed fag blow me You don't know me, you're too old, let go, its over, nobody listens to techno.. Now lets go, give me the signal I'll be there with a whole list full of new insults...."
I would say that Eminem had a lot to do with his sales and he just doesn't want to admit that he got burned by Slim Shady.
Well, after working for a large company, I always asked why not switch to a free solution and save all that money on licensing. Well, the answer is simple. Support. It might cost a pretty penny, but it's available and it works. If something goes wrong with, say, MS Excel, you have the option to call Excel support and they will get you fixed. Now I know that there may not be too many times Excel breaks or whatnot, but when your company depends on this software to make money, they want to know that they are backed up.
Don't get me wrong, I use Open Office on a Linux box running Ximian Evolution to connect to the Exchange server here, but when you go corporate wide, the key word is support.
I find naming computers after stars is a good way to go. There are billions of starts out there, aren't there? I'm sure you can find some online database out there using google.
I like/. and all, but I don't believe that ANY website is worth paying for./. is just going to lose readers if they turn into a pay site. I didn't read completely through to see if there is some way I can view ads on all pages (like I do now) for no fee. I even like some of the ads seen on/. .
How many times are we going to hear something about Microsoft fixing it's buggy code? This must be like the 3rd or 4th post about this in the past month.

I hear you... it was dissapointing this year. I was really hoping I could get another picture of me with the BSD chicks.
"...Bill Gates announced to employees Wednesday a major strategy shift across all its products to emphasize security and privacy over new capabilities."
Security and privacy *ARE* new capabilites to Microsoft products.

posts like this are stupid, because by the time you click the submit button, you are no longer the second (or first post) but the third. idiot.
I wouldn't say that /. is all about bashing MS. /. just reports news on them and it's readers bash MS.
Blaaaahhhhhaarrgggh!
This page is all screwed up... it scrolls to the left/right.. and very far over I might add! Not related to the topic, just fix it.

I'm not saying what Walmart is selling is any good, but why can't people just be happy that the Linux market is expanding?
I wonder if it's going to be a pay site...
Serial numbers are pretty unique to each machine. They don't describe what the machine's job is so it's easy to reassign what it's doing.
