And iTunes plays stuff just fine when doing iPod updates, it's just that the UI gets HORRIBLY sluggish, IE I click and then it might take 30 seconds to register (if it registers at all.) I was thinking it might be USB or IRQ related, except the mouse cursor moves just fine, iTunes just doesn't register the clicks.
Hmm, it's quite complex. I was a little vague in my prior post. Most species are indeed reproductively isolated from each other (That is, they generally can not or at least will not breed together.) The classification of species can get quite contentious, and it often has quite large impact whether or not a given group of animals is indeed a seperate species due to the endangered species act.
One particular group in contention is the red wolf. There are few enough red wolves left that if they are indeed their own species, they would be considered endangered and therefore be afforded protection under the endangered species act. This means there are restrictions on development in the red wolf's habitat, etc.
The problem comes in that red wolves can mate with gray (timber) wolves under certain circumstances, and red wolves can mate with coyotes. In fact, if you can get a gray wolf to mate with a coyote, the result is pretty dang close to a red wolf. Gray wolves generally do not mate with coyotes in nature, but there are exceptions. In captivity it becomes a lot more likely, and artificial insemination yields pretty consistant results. So one could argue that, according to the reproductive seperation theory the red wolf is not a unique species at all. In fact one would even have to combine the gray wolf and the coyote into one species.
So, of course this means that there becomes political debate over the exact definition of species. To conservationists, it is obvious that the red wolf is its own distinct species, and deserving of protection under the endangerd species act. To the development interests, it is quite blatant that the red wolf is simply a gray wolf/coyote hybrid or even the median in a range of morphologies between wolf and coyote. and nothing to really worry about when making policy decisions.
The real answer is that because species arise gradually from evolution, there is really no sharp point where you can say "These different groups are now seperate species." However for law to be just, it must be consistant. To be consistant, there must be distinct deliniations between different groups. These sharp distinctions, unfortunately, do not really exist anywhere in nature. (Okay, I'm ready for the "Wrong: species are the kinds that god created/the FSM reached out and touched with his noodly appendage" posts.)
One of those things where the answer simply raises more questions, I suppose. At least it's not Quantum physics, which you don't learn so much as get used to.
And the "protect the babies" thing extends beyond the species in many cases. There have been many many cases of mothers providing for another animal: pigs or dogs nursing kittens, etc. Just look to your nearest humane society or SPCA for examples of people nursing (at least bottle feeding) young of a different species.
How can you not compare that to WiMP (Sorry, I like that anagram.)
From the features you listed (Sorry if the formatting is ugly)
player ripper jukebox musicstore
iTunes X X X X
WMP X X X ?
Windows media player allows you to play most downloaded stuff (as much as iTunes woulde anyways, I don't know how well OGG or other less common formats are supported)
WiMP allows you to rip to one of three WMA formats, or to MP3, the only difference to iTunes is iTunes uses three different apple formats instead of Windows formats, and it allows rip to WAV.
Jukebox? They both have them. I BELIEVE WMP had a library functionality before iTunes even existed, not sure how quicktime dealt with it.
Music Store? WMP has a web browser like feature built in which allows for purchasing music through several different online music stores. I doubt the integration is as tight as it is with iTunes, but you are not locked into one vendor.
The biggest problem I've seen with WMP is that it doesn't have a good way to integrate with an iPod right out of the box (I'm sure someone has written or at least tried to write an app to do this. I've tried a couple plugins for Winamp, but they were just a royal pain to upload music to the iPod with. Compared to iTunes just being annoying to use as a media player in my opinion.) I believe this is more the result of Apple's design decisions on the iPod than it is any fault inherent in WMP. I do not know how well other portable digital audio players integrate with WMP, but I would imagine there is decent support on those devices (and I know Apple doesn't really like other devices being able to download directly from iTunes or other music stores allowing downloads of music compatible to an iPod without using iTunes.)
That said, I don't really like either music player and have generally enjoyed Winamp the best for actually playing music on my computer. The controls are intuitive enough and seem more responsive than many other media players. Forget trying to do anything with iTunes when it is updating an iPod (at least on a Windows machine... I have a feeling it is a lot smoother on a Mac.) And yes, I have tried a lot of the other players out there, but none of them felt as good to me as Winamp. Yes, loading up the media library takes a couple seconds, but I'd expect that in a piece of software reading ID3 tags on over ten thousand files. I happen to enjoy having a fair amount of relevant metadata embedded in the file. It's nice to know what album a song is off of, what year it was recorded, etc. I like to have my music player have the ability to organize my music by band name, song name, album, genre, length of time and whatnot. It's extremely helpful in making playlists or just finding that one song you want your friend to listen to. And I like looking at pretty visualizations to go along with my music. It's still neat to me after all these years. Then again that might be because Milkdrop comes pretty close to what I see in my mind when I close my eyes and listen to music, only more vivid and I can actually show it to someone else. I don't personally use a lot of features that Winamp carries, but I could see them being useful to some people.
When you find a piece of software you like, use it. If other people don't find it to be all that great, don't act surprised. If it's a security issue, then maybe you can try to explain it, but the majority of people won't care and will just use what they are used to anyways. And for all I know, the reason I might like Winamp is that it is the first piece of music playing software I really used, back in 1997 or whatever when I had a bunch of CDs and like 4 or 5 MP3s I had downloaded... off websites... on 28.8k dialup.
From Wikipedia: Alpacas and llamas can (and do) successfully cross breed, the resulting offspring are called huarizo.
They're not the same species, but can breed. And more succesfully than a horse and a donkey can breed together. Basically, the interfertility test has gone out of favor with biologists; there have been far too many exceptions shown, and indeed some odd hybrids which are more prolific than either parent individually.
The united states military budget is almost 500 billion dollars, not including the cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan incursions which I have heard to be around 50 billion dollars (although it is hard to find an exact number) or the funding of the homeland security department. I think there are better ways to cut money than from the paultry 16.5 billion dollars that NASA was approved for this year (And considering that the defense department also benefits from NASA's activities, such as with spy sattelites, GPS, etc etc etc, although I'm sure NASA does benefit from a lot of the research done by the military aerospace industry as well.)
I really don't think the United States really needs to increase the defense budget much when it spends about as much money on defense as THE REST OF THE ENTIRE WORLD COMBINED. Especially not when we are in a budget nightmare and drastically cutting funding to education and just about every other social program.
Alternatively, a perceived need to watch TV could be the result of a medical problem or dietary deficiency. Seeing a doctor or getting more fiber could help out here. But seriously, I would imagine that a lot of the people who have a TV installed in their bathroom also have a hottup or similar in there. Not so much for the regualar day to day cleaning as for hard core relaxing. And mostly for showing off to members of the desired sex.
On the other side of the coin are games that put long drawn out cutscenes BEFORE major boss battles, without an option to skip them. You know, the kind of battle you know you're going to have to try over and over again to 1)figure out the weaknesses and general techniques for fighting and then 2)get the timings right. In particular I'm thinking Prince of Persia Two Thrones, the fight against the big twins, one with a hammer and one with a sword. Took four or five tries to figure out exactly what to do, and would generally be killed in about 20-25 seconds (was really low on sands at that point.) Now, to get to that 20 seconds of game play you had to sit through 30 seconds of the same cutscene over and over, not to mention the "you have died" Mendala popping up, the "do you want to continue" screen and the loading screen. Gets kinda annoying when you just want to try out some new technique that you think will work. Overplaying it like that can take you out of the mood REALLY quick when you hear the same line of dialog over and over.
There's a couple possibilities for why this helped:
1)Taking the hand off the mouse and keyboard to grab the glass to drink rests your wrists and allows for a different movement: one of the biggest suggestions for CT sufferers is to take short breaks and exercise your wrists a little. Also the resultant trips to the bathroom give another break from typing (hopefully not exercising his wrists there, though.)
2)Could have a medical condition: diabetes and some liver and kidney disorders can cause polydipsia and associated polyuria: a desire to drink a LOT of water, and then of course the resultant urination. Someone who does not drink this large amount of water could potentially be not flushing out certain toxins or other chemicals.
3)Placebo(tm): the drug against which all others are tested.
I'm not saying that you already let them know. It's just that considering the mannerisms of many young people on the internet, this could make playing with them undoable if you get offended by someone using the terms "gay" and "faggot" and whatnot. So, in this case I could see joining a guild of people you know won't piss you off as a logical move. Granted, the whole "LOL U FAG" thing is found more in FPSs and the like, but it's still out there.
Ooh Ooh. I go to McDonald's for salads at least twice a week. And usually cousin's once a week (for salad) Arby's once a week (for salad) and Subway once a week (Guess what I get there... hint: it's sitting on top of a couple servings of leafy greens, not several servings of bread.) And I've lost 23 pounds since January 1st (A bit quicker than I hoped, but the rate has tapered down a bit)
And flax seed oil? Nah... I'm more a fan of flax seed meal. A little more light/temperature stable, and FIBER FIBER FIBER (But I still keep it in the fridge in an opaque container... omega 3s and 6s break down rapidly.) I take an occasional fish oil capsule too (if I haven't eaten real fish in a while... just watch out for the burb a minute later). Plus olive oil... Bring it on. Just make sure that you don't overcook your oils. Throw in a few handfulls of nuts and seeds a day and you're golden. Assuming you are a male, make sure that the multivitamin you are taking is formulated for men... Women's or even general purpose multivitamins have way too much Iron for a man and cause problems (Iron is difficult to excrete.)
About the virus: I don't really think the researchers meant that this virus is causing all of the obesity problems in America, but there are people who have an extremely hard time losing weight no matter how much they diet or exercise and this could prove to be the key to their treatment. Especially keeping in mind that when people actively try to lose weight with very little to no success (and nobody believing the efforts put in) the result is usually depression. That depression leads to... you guessed it: overeating and lack of activity, which can further spike the depression, which leads to even more weight gain.
Exactly, booth babes are nothing new to trade shows. Hell, some car shows even have bikini contests and wet tshirt contests at night, and it's been known to see girls lost their tops completely (although I suppose this happens more at personal shows where people show off their mods than actual trade shows, but...
Hell, if anything what's noteworthy about E3 booth babes is the lack of guys slobbering over them and the number of males who are honestly insulted that companies are using cheap candy trash to try and push the products. You'd probably turn more male gamer's heads with a group of slightly above average (maybe 6's and a 7's) looking girls in jeans, sneakers and hoodies actually playing the games in question than overly tanned, silicone ehanced tramps in miniskirts and cut off shirts standing around vapidly. Although some guys do go for cosplay girls, it would tend to be more girls who are into it for the fantasy aspect and fun of it than girls who stoop down to it for a paycheck which doesn't involve taking their tops off. Yes, I would be willing to bet that most booth babes regular job is stripper, or at the very least model.
Either you need rare skills or talent (redundant?)
Not exactly redundant, from what I understand. Skills are abilities that are gained through learning and practice, while talent is is those abilities which come naturally to you. It sort of overlaps, and you can make up for deficiencies in talent with learning and practice, and it really helps hone the areas in which you are talented.
"I would prefer to start with a freeform system and move towards the archetype system"
This would end up being a total kludge. If you do it live (I.E. the game is developed in this manner while people are playing) then you will have a lot of people who developed some unique characters get royally screwed when it starts becoming more archetype centered and their character doesn't really fit an archetype. If you do this preproduction, then players are saddled by the limitations of both types of systems.
However, if you designed a game where individual players started based on an archetype but were then able to branch off and develop their player as they wished, you would at least have the advantage of simplicity in the early stages while characters can learn the ins and outs of which skillsets would be beneficial to practice. But the code/rules behind this would probably become exceedingly kludgy and unnecesarilly complicated, leading to frustration from a playability standpoint.
They claim that, but those imperfections can be added. Diamonds have been made that are indistinguishable from mined diamonds, even microscopically. The whole thing is hype designed to push a WWWAAAAAAYYYYYY overinflated industry. And there's a whole slew of other things going on behind the scenes to keep a small group of people rolling in the money.
I think the last glass of wine out of the bottle is always much better than the first one if you drink it all at once
You know, I enjoy beligian beers a whole lot (amount, not frequencey) and I often find the same experience where the last one tastes very very good. Oftentimes even a type that I wouldn't like on the first beer. If only I could find some corelation between drinking beer or wine and enjoying things. Hmmm... maybe these drinks have SOMETHING in common that I'm just not grasping.
I meant opposite statistics as in it would be hard to find a politically liberal preacher. Although I know there are many, it seems the majority of political leaders are quite conservative.
And iTunes plays stuff just fine when doing iPod updates, it's just that the UI gets HORRIBLY sluggish, IE I click and then it might take 30 seconds to register (if it registers at all.) Maybe you installed a faulty plugin. I've seen this before with things such as auto-levelling software, 3rd part GEQs and other audio plugins.
